This starts off well- but you have to read the whole review to understand the story. I never went into the store before, but finally had a need to get a baby seat for my bike. The store was well stocked, neat and the staff friendly so I felt good about the $225 or so I spend for a baby bike seat, installation and a helmet for my little boy. I picked up the bike the next day and they showed me how to use the seat and I rode off happy. Later that day I put my son in the seat and we had a great time going for a ride. The problem is after that first ride, I finally looked over their work-- I KICK MYSELF FOR NOT CHECKING BEFORE THE RIDE-- because I discovered that they did not correctly, fully attach the baby seat frame to my bike. They put bolts through the connectors but it had NO nuts. As I rode that day, the bolts loosened and I could have had a horrific accident as the seat would have literally fallen off of the bike and possibly seriously injured or KILLED my son. Seriously, if his seat fell of and I had a car behind me he could have been run over. So I went back the next day and a guy behind the front counter initially started to argue with me that it didnt need bolts. I pulled out the instructions and pointed out that he was totally wrong, and he took it downstairs to fix. About 35/40 minutes later I got the bike back and it was finally done correctly. I thought that they were sloppy, I didnt like the attitude and will not be shopping here again. Note-- that there seem to have been a lot of complaints in May. I wonder if something has changed there?

I needed to buy bikes for my 7 year old girl and 11 year old boy. I wanted to go to Bicycle Planet because they have a good selection, but was hesitant because when Bicycle Planet was located on Jericho Turnpike, it had the reputation of being an overpriced bike shop with snooty salespersons who didnt want you in the store if you didnt know the difference between a Shimano and SRAM shifter. But, since Im always open-minded, I figured I would give it a shot. I"m so glad I did. Julia, our salesperson, was upbeat and answered all our questions. She helped my kids find bikes in the price range we wanted and made sure they were the right size for them. And there was no pressure, no up-selling, and no attitude. Also, you can test ride the bikes in the parking lot right in front of the store which the kids did while Julia patiently waited. Conrad then answered some questions I had about mountain bikes. He was very knowledgeable and patiently explained to me the differences between mountain bikes in various price ranges. Finally, the manager, Howard, came over to explain various bike racks to us. He even came out to the parking lot to look at our car and see what kind would be best for us. All in all, it was a great shopping experience. We wound up getting the bikes for my son and daughter and they are happily riding them as I write this review. (See happy kids in photo.) I will go back for any and all of my bike needs.

Very poor service. I found the bike I was looking for (Stumpjumer Comp) at BC when I was just getting serious about mountain biking about a year ago. When I first stopped by to look at the bike I was told that I would get a proper bike fit if I did buy the bike. I was excited for this when I went to pick up the bike and even called ahead to make sure there would be someone available for the fitting, they told me yes. When I went to pick it up the next day and asked for my fitting, I was told "Put the seat at a height so your feet can touch the ground", and that was it. When I inquired further they told me a fitting would be a separate charge. I left unhappy but still excited about my new bike. Now as I have become more knowledgeable about bikes I realized the seat and the stem they threw on the bike were very wrong for my body dimensions, which would not have happened if I had gotten the fitting I was promised. Dont waste your time there, find a bike shop that actually cares about their customers

This is a top shelf, world-class bicycle store! The Bicycle Planet far exceeds every expectation I look for in any store of any kind. I found that from the initial sales visit, to sizing, to follow up service, The Bicycle Planets courteous and knowledgeable professionals will assist you every step of the way. The service technicians are second to none! They have earned my business and trust over the years - Ive been buying bicycles here since 2013 and will continue to do so for many years to come. Huge inventory of bicycles and accessories to choose from. Its obvious that the staff is completely locked into their craft and their love of cycling. I give The Bicycle Planet two thumbs up (and would give a lot more if I had them). I wish I could give more stars! Top notch bicycle store in every sense!

My family has been shopping at The Bicycle Planet for nearly 15 years now, and they have never been anything other than superb. All of our new bikes in that time have been from them, and their mechanics are top notch. This summer Ive gotten heavily into trail riding, and they have helped me in so many ways. I come in almost every day with different questions about setup and general riding advice, and they are always ready and willing to answer them. In particular, Evan, in the shop, is always helpful, showing me how to adjust my derailleurs and brakes while he was tuning up my bike. He offered advice on what stems and handlebars to buy as an upgrade, and I can only say that the guys at The Bicycle Planet truly care about the sport and getting people the right setup for their interest(s).

Dealt with a very young man who I heard mention to another customer that he was the manager. I believe his name was Jacob, James or Jamie?. Cant remember. I went into the store with my daughter and the young man could not keep his eyes off my daughter. Very unprofessional behavior. I also thought the prices were very high compared to other cycling shops in the area. I was very disappointed as the bicycle planet came highly recommended. I will be having a word with the person who recommended me. In the mean time I will not return to such an unprofessional establishment full of young kids... I wish I knew who the owner was. I would like to have a word with him to explain how uncomfortable I was in his store. Albert Smith III Cold Spring Harbor, NY

If I were a road bike enthusiast the score would be 4 stars. As a mountain bike rider, theres a pretty good selection of trail bikes but the vibe is very much road IMHO. Especially for accessories. Still, if you know what you want to invest in bike-wise youll do fine here with MTBs. If youre into road bikes I get the impression youll be excited. The service department is very good, if a little pricey. But Ive never had to go back for a re-do, and they seem to treat everyone with respect. A good all-around bike shop with a wide selection of everything. Pretty friendly and Ive noticed they will explain whats going on with bikes to everybody without making them feel like dopes.
