This bike shop used to be great prior to 2016 when Leigh owned the place. I was always a satisfied customer. It has since gone downhill under new ownership. I brought my mtn bike in for a tune up, spoke replacements and bottom bracket change. For starters, the mechanic left me a voice mail with a condescending tone to it when the bike was first finished. So I take it out for a ride and the new spoke pops right out as soon as I hit my first rock garden only about 5 minutes into my ride. I asked the mechanic if my wheel might be damaged since Ive broken a few spokes before. He tells me no, and that as long as they can true the wheel, then its fine. Then the shifting was all messed up when in the 3rd cog or higher on the cassette. Chain skipping when in any number of gears, and the sound of perpetual gear searching when in the 4th cog. Absolutely nothing wrong with the shifting when I first brought the bike in. So I bring the bike back and after I pick it up for the second time, I decide to pedal it around the parking lot before leaving. The mechanic hadnt done a thing to correct the shifting problem that he created, and that I specifically called him back to ask about earlier in the day. I spun the crank around to demonstrate that perpetual gear searching sound and the mechanic tells me theres nothing he can do about that because my wheel is damaged. But on the phone earlier in the day he told me my wheel was NOT damaged. I stood my ground and insisted there was nothing wrong when I brought it in. So the mechanic pedaled it around the parking lot, made some adjustments, and lo & behold.......he could fix it! When he gave me my bike back he couldnt even apologize and admit to his mistake. He leaned the bike against the counter and said "all set" as he walked away. The mechanic (Ryan) just had an overall bad attitude when I was in the shop. In addition to all this, he told me earlier on the phone that he would order replacement spokes that exactly matched my Mavic Crossmaxs, and would do so at no charge. Im still short 1 spoke and never received a call that the Mavic spokes came in. Almost forget one of the best parts....when my bike was first in the shop the mechanic called to ask me how to take of my rear wheel. Really?!?! A professional bike mechanic needs to call a customer to ask how to take off a wheel????? This wheel has a Maxle which always loosens up while riding, and Ive never, ever had an issue taking it off because it was too tight. A good friend of mine who was also a loyal customer to the previous owner had a bad experience with the new ownership as well. Neither one of us will be going back.

Only had one experience with Bike Express, but that experience turned bad when the shop mechanics failed to properly pack my road bike for shipment. When my bike arrived to the destination shop, I was surprised to receive a call saying my bike had been damaged during shipment. While I didnt know much about bike shipping before this experience, the shop simply threw the rear tire in the box without securing it (and definitely not leaving it on the frame as I was later told you were supposed to do). The result was that during shipment the cassette ruined the aluminum on the seatstay and chainstay. Perhaps this was a fluke experience with this shop, but Bike Express failed to properly perform the one task I paid them to do. I wont be going back to this shop.

I dont normally post poor reviews but I would stay away from this shop... I put a $100 deposit on a bike for my youngest son last night. It was slime green... he decided he wanted a different color bike the next morning (favorite color is orange or black). I called to say I needed a different color.. They told me that they had already modified the bike and could not refund me my complete deposit. They modified the bike by putting a kick stand on it... I asked how much labor is it to put on a kick stand? He said he could refund me $80 of my $100.. I said fine and I will go elsewhere.. I had every intention of buying 2 bikes from them, one for each of my sons... needless to say I will not buy any bikes from them.. I will take my business elsewhere..

Great shop. The new staff and owners of Bike Express are great people that are also knowledgable and skilled. They make repairs fast and do them well and frankly do not charge enough. They are always friendly and I feel like they are always looking out for me and my bike and my wallet. I highly recommend giving them a try. Their mechanic Dave has been particularly helpful and caring. A really nice shop. Please give them a visit! I need them to do well. Who else would look after my bike for me?

While on a bike tour from Manhattan to Western Massachusetts, we were desperately in need of a specific size of tire at the very last minute before the shop closed for the day. They took the time, staying way past the 7 PM closing, on a holiday weekend to help us out and give us all of the attention we needed as we worked together to problem solve. They even threw in some extra fixing for free! Generous, helpful, and, as a women, I was treated respectfully -- not something one always finds at shops.

This is my favorite bike shop in Danbury. Leigh is an expert mechanic, and his staff definitely know their stuff. They only do what is necessary to keep your bike in top condition. Prices are very fair, perhaps low. They wash your bike when its in for a tune-up. I appreciate that they are open on Sundays, and turnaround time for repairs is fast - usually 1 day in my experience. They maintain all four of my bikes - a tandem, two road bikes and a hybrid.

Went here for over 10 years. Bought 3 bikes from old owner. Has since changed owners. There was a 7 day turn around on a tune up. Couldnt find my bike when i went to pick it up, not even started yet. Really? Unacceptable. I go out of my way to avoid this place.
