Bought my first bike just over a month ago - and like the previous reviewer decided to do so despite the negative reviews and because of the convenience of the location to me. When I arrived the only person there was in the service section, but he got me started. I knew what I was looking for (Honda Rebel) - and they happened to have a 2014 model in store. I already had my loan pre-approved through my credit union. While he was not overly knowledgeable about the sales part of it, he contacted the owner by phone and he showed up 15 minutes later. The destination fee was waived and he knocked a few hundred dollars off the list price - which is very fair seeing there isnt a lot of wiggle room on a Rebel. I bought all my gear through them at a 20% discount - which ended up being at or lower than online prices. So that was fair - seeing not paying shipping charges pretty much wiped out what I paid in tax. They took care of all the DMV hassle for me, and offered to deliver it to my house. I couldnt make the first date - so they were happy to reschedule. In the meantime I found a friend willing to ride it home for me (Im 3 miles from the shop). The owner stayed late to accommodate me picking it up this way. I have not dealt with their service dept. yet but I will be in a few days. A month into riding and Ive already put 500 miles on my bike. Another 100 to go for the break in service. Hoping the service lives up to the sale. -- Just an update - Bought a second bike here just a week ago. Had to have my Rebel serviced twice (the first time a part was on back order - they patched the bike up the best they could to let me ride) - on my second visit I knew I was outgrowing the Rebel. After reading up and taking some suggestions from the Owner, I ended up on a CB500X. Because I was not trading in my Rebel (keeping it at least till next season) - I told them the numbers had to work in order for the bank to finance it, as well as to keep my payments under control. They did a 2nd bike deal for me - and while it wasnt a grand slam deal - it worked in my budget. They also worked with me on the first bikes repairs. Couldnt be happier with JAF.

Let me start by first saying I have never been one to write a review because I had yet to come across an experience that I felt needed one. I read the 3 reviews on this page and was discouraged to visit JAF due to the various negative reviews. Out of convenience (being a native of scotia) I decided to give it a try however in my search for a new ATV. When I arrived it was 5 oclock Weds evening, the day before thanksgiving; when I walked in I quickly realized the staff had gone home for the night and the only person left was the owner himself. He had his coat in hand and he too was preparing to head home for the night, once I realized this I asked if he would rather me come back on Friday; the owner assured me that he did not mind. The owners knowledge of ATVs was obvious and had a clear and concise answer to any question I asked him. To make a long story short, he ended up getting me into an ATV much different then i was looking for and one that I am now much happier with. The owner stayed much longer than he had anticipated working a deal that we could agree too, and much cheaper than I had expected. Not only did he do this, he personally delivered the ATV to my front door that night, a trip far out of the way to his home and also went over the ups and downs of the ATV so I too had a good understanding of it. I can not speak on any of the sales or parts departments: just on the owner himself and his kindness, going above and beyond a sales experience I could ask for, JAF has my business for life. I would encourage anyone in the market for a dirt bike or ATV in the capital district give this place a try.

I go into JAF typically once or twice a year to pick up parts for my bikes. Quite frankly I find them convenient and reasonably competitive with online retailers, especially when you only need a gasket or other small items. There are several negative reviews here but I really think it comes down to expectation. This is not a big, high dollar bike shop, just the owner and a couple of employees. Charlie (the owner) will do just about anything for you and he is quite knowledgeable. He also has a memory for his customers and can remember your name from year to year. His knowledge comes from living the industry from the time he was a kid. Origins of this shop dat bake to his dad when the shop was at the bottom of Broadway in Schenectady. Admittedly their customer service for parts & service lack a bit but good mechanics are often quiet and reserved. Bottom line is that they know their stuff. If you are there to get your bike fixed having a good mechanic is better than finding a good conversationalist.

Everyone has an opinion and heres mine. Im glad I didnt listen to the reviews I read. Charlie is A+, top of the line. I didnt have one issue at all. The day I was suppose to go, I ended up sick. He was totally understanding. It took me a while to get there and to get everything taken care but it was no fault of his, it was all me. Not only is Charlie a great guy but he runs a business the old fashioned way. He didnt try to sell me something that was over powering. Today I go back to get my safety gear which he finds just as important as the as being happy with the bike. He wants you happy and safe. So, like I said. We all have opinions so please dont let the reviews you read sway you away from JAF, if you do, your missing out on one of the most honest guys out there !

I checked the hours after Christmas day, and gave them a call, parts and service wasnt open but the owner was there and said he could help me out, I came down and he was very pleasant and intersted in what I was working on. The owner seems knolegable with basic over the counter parts. I was there a year ago and there was a man at the service desk who went by Doc, and he was helpful and informative on my older snowmobile, and I took my carbs to have them inspected to see if the needed work. They checked out fine with no replacement parts or service needed, and didnt charge a bench fee for keeping them overnight.

The parts department is a joke and it is apparent that they hire bums off the street to man the phones. They wouldnt quote parts prices over the phone even though I had part numbers to give. The guy was rude and it would seem that customer service is a very low priority. Save yourself some money and a horrible experience and go to Albany Honda. I had a great experience and would rather go 20 miles further than jaf and get better service
