Please, I beg of you, do not waste your time or money here. I have been a resident of the Clinton Hill/Bedstuy community for the past 6 year and frequent many of the shops and restaurants on Myrtle Ave. The disrespect and poor service I received at Optical Gallery takes-the-cake on worst neighborhood business experiences to date. I went in to this place to have my glasses adjusted and afterward noticed that my right lens had been damaged by the heating element that the woman behind the counter used to soften the plastic on the frames. The middle of my lens had been melted slightly leaving a permanent blurry spot right in the center of the lens. I told the woman that the lens was now damaged and that I could no longer see out of the right side. Her first response was to look down at the ground and say, "Well, I told you that we cant be held responsible if anything happens to your glasses." I acknowledged that I was told this, but I wanted her to know what she had done and that now my $500, hi-index-lenses were rendered useless, I was hoping the shop would do something to make good on their obvious error and at least acknowledge their mistake. Its one thing if the frames break because they are older or brittle, or if the lenses crack because they are of a material that the store isnt familiar with. But the damage to my lens was done by someone who operated the equipment poorly, ruining a perfectly fine pair of glasses. No apology was given and not a bit of culpability was admitted. The woman wouldnt look me in the eye and started double-talking about the wideness of my frame and how they were also old frames. As if this had anything to do with her letting the lens of my standard sized pair of 1.5 year old glasses come within range of the heating element. She went to get an owner/manager from the back and he came out with his defenses high and a nasty attitude. He never asked me my name, never asked me what the problem was, and never apologized for the mistake. He immediately told me he was not responsible and glared at me, looking for a challenge. At one point he even questioned my story, asking how he was supposed to know if the damage happened in his shop or not. The arrogance and smugness of this business owner was pathetic. After again asking them why they were speaking to me in this manner and if there was anything they could do to help me out, I was reluctantly offered a discount on the purchase of new lenses from them. They were trying to solicit new business from me! I wasnt offered lenses at cost. I wasnt offered the ability to purchase just 1 lens, and since I didnt have the money to make that kind of investment right then and there, they wouldnt put the offer in writing. They turned their backs on me and ignored me. Uncaring, unconcerned, and no interest in cultivating a fair relationship with a fellow community member. Definitely not the kind of place I want to business with and neither should you.

Ended up taking my business elsewhere because I had several problems with this company. They took my UFT certificate immediately upon me entering the store, meaning as a public school teacher with only one insurance option I was basically captured from that moment forth (though I managed to get my certificate back three weeks later and go elsewhere). Though the staff were nice enough they were extremely pushy in almost all respects - from taking my certificate to insisting that I look at frames the day I came in to make my appointment (which I was not interested in doing) to not allowing me to pick out my own frames, to trying to pressure me into buying frames that day instead of setting several pairs aside to try on again on the date of my appointment (I have never heard of NOT being able to do this)... at this point I had pretty much had it and decided I wouldnt be keeping my appointment, so I left. I was EXTREMELY uncomfortable the whole time I was in the store and I felt extremely pushed around. By no means are these mean people, they are just very very very pushy. I was later able to get my certificate back, after missing my appointment, and went down the street to DC Optic, where I got EXCELLENT customer service and quality of care, and a fantastic new pair of glasses. Highly recommend DC Optic... steer clear of this place though. Unfortunately they are more interested in pushing expensive frames on people than on listening to their customers and making them feel comfortable and meeting their needs.

If you want designer glasses at a VERY competitive price, this is the place! I live in the area and when i saw the store opened i thought to myself the glasses in the window were very high end and i did not want to look at over priced glasses as the store looks very high end! BOY WAS I WRONG! They have many different styles of designer glasses, affordable prices and Boris...i can not speak more about him. He is such a Gentleman and he really makes you feel that he is part of your family and want you to feel confident in your decision with eye wear. After the first time i went there i had to come back for a 2nd pair because i really believe you can not find a better selection with excellent customer service! He stood by his word to complete a rush order for me and i am very thankful for that. Like i mentioned the store is easy on the eyes...if you do not look outside the window you would think you were in a store on 5th avenue in Manhattan. That is a WIN WIN!

I couldnt be more pleased with my experience(s) at Optical Gallery, from setting up the appointment to the eye exam to selection of/receipt of/adjustments of the glasses. I intended to get new prescription sunglasses, but the prices were so reasonable that I also walked away with another pair of regular glasses as well! As any glasses-wearer knows, you cant know if the frames are adjust properly for your face until you wear them a bit. Over the couple weeks after receiving my glasses (which were finished quickly, and very well -- my regular-glasses lens were a significantly better quality than my last pair of glasses), I ended up popping in to Optical Gallery several times for minor adjustments (pinching here, squeezing there, a little loose here, etc.); they were very kind, helpful, and understanding -- I went in feeling like I was a pest, and each time left feeling like a valued customer. Optical is my new go-to eye place -- highly recommended!

I highly recommend the Optical Gallery! Ive gotten three pairs of glasses here in the last year. Boris and his staff have delivered exceptional customer service each time. I am drawn to unique, colorful frames and they always have more than enough options for me to choose from. They carry a large selection of styles from basic to designer for all price points. To give you an idea of the brands, my glasses are Anne et Valentin, Theo, Alain Mikli, and my husbands are Persol. I wear my glasses every day so it is important to me that I have glasses that fit well and will hold up to daily abuse. After the initial fitting, I havent needed any adjustments or repairs to my glasses, which says a lot about the quality of the product and skill of the staff at the Optical Gallery. My experience with the optometrist was also excellent--professional and thorough. Support small business owners and shop local at the Optical Gallery!
