I was at the Bay Shore location a few weeks ago, I caught a flat the evening before. I have an Elantra with a tire pressure monitoring system that lets me know when my tires are low on air and a portable air compressor to fill them until I can get it to tire shop for repair. Saturday morning my husband and I walk into Pepboys and ask if the tire can be repaired they said no that we would need a new tire. I purchased a tire that was $72 plus mounting and balancing and labor fees for a total of $106 mind you we only brought the tire not the car. We told the associated at the desk that the monitoring gadget is embedded in rims of tire and if they could handle the job without jeopardizing the gadget we were told it wasnt a problem. We asked how long it would take they said a few hours so we said we would shop around then and were ready to go across the way to Mavis, should have trusted out instincts. Sure enough now he tells us oh they can do it now and it will only take 15minutes. So we said ok and they took the tire to the shop. Five minutes later we hear our name being called, knew it could not be good. The mechanic the supposedly head mechanic ask if we drove on the flat and our answer was absolutely not, He said the monitoring gadget snapped aka broke and tried to assure us that it came in that way not that they broke it. Till this day today we are sure they broke it. Now we have to pay another $80 and he felt so bad that he did not charge tax or labor to replace it. He replaces it and reprograms the system so all four tires to be in sync. Said to mount tire and drive for ten minutes straight and warning sensor light should go off well that didnt happen!! now another trip back to them after an hour of driving straight he tell us that its not working that we would need to order another one through our dealer have them program it and bring it back to them to put on and they would refund our money for theirs. More running around no way. My husband told them to just take it off and refund him his money. He later called the dealer bought the part that was in stock for $28 , put it on and reprogrammed it himself with his own diagnostics scanner and voila the problem was fixed and he is not a mechanic. Never again will i have Pepboys even change a screw.

I took my car there, for the first time ever, for a simple service: 2 new tires, an oil change, and a wheel rotation. I arrived at opening and I was one of the first few people there. At first, the cashier tried to charge me $100 for each new tire. When I asked if there was anything a little cheaper, he said "no there isnt" without even checking anything. It wasnt until another mechanic overheard me, and insisted that there was a cheaper alternative and it costs $72 each, which I accepted. After I gave the keys and got the receipt for the services ($320), the cashier assured me that I would have the car back in an hour or two. I never pressured them at all because I wanted the work done right. Six hours pass by, and I havent heard word about what was going on. So I call the store, only to be put on hold for 15 MINUTES, then the cashier tells me they just started working on my car NOW. Finally, three and a half hours later, they called me saying I could pick up my car. When I came back to settle up the bill, I was initially surprised that they tried to charge me almost $500 for everything. I showed my original receipt, and said it was suppose to be the listed price there of $320, plus I had a coupon for a small discount. The cashier hit a few buttons on the keyboard and the price "magically" got reduced down to $300, the price I originally anticipated for all the labor and services. I dont know what they were trying to pull here, maybe they saw that I was a first time customer when they entered my data in their customer computer system, but I felt I was trying to be ripped off. I usually have a great mechanic that Ive been going to for years, and I just happen to see that Pep Boys always has deals on tires, so I decided to try them out instead. Biggest mistake ever. This goes to show you that you should "stick to what you know". I will NEVER take my car to another PEP BOYS again!!

Products? Yes. Service? Never. I have been screwed over 4 times. They took out my TPMS sensor when I got a tire rotation; they killed my battery so I couldnt start my car right outside the store!; sold me a $90 for $105 and claim they are the cheapest; I wait an average 2 hours every time, even once for 4 hours; they lifted my car from the wrong part and causes my car to slide to a side and dented the under-unibody. The staff doesnt seem enthusiastic at all. I told them I would write a complaint about this store and promise never to come again for service. I came back to get tire shine and I noticed new people all around, and when speaking to the new general manager, she said the previous staff has had multiple reports of bad behavior and service, so she said we are all from Lindenhurst and they original people I had to deal with are in another store. So if you see a service cashier named Mike with an eyebrow piercing or a technician named Bob, you bet you are about to receive some of the worst service of your life.

They call themselves certified technicians yet they cant diagnose or properly repair an Air Conditioner problem. The only thing ithey are good for is to charge customers for half (if you can even call that) repairs. Brought my car for AC repair because it was not cooling they charged me $170 just to tell me that they thoughts the problem was a compressor which was bought from them, a day before, when i told them this, they just said i would have to take my car to the dealership since they had all the original equipment (who does that) i thought you guys were equipped and had "certified technicians" to perform the job. In conclusion they could not diagnose the problem with my AC and were unable to fix it, but you bet they sure charged the $170 for the "work performed" Thanks Pepboys for ripping me out $170 and still leaving me with the problem and clueless about the issue; because they also had no idea. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE.

I was out pricing a part for my car, I should have turned around when I saw a fight start in the parking lot, however these things happen, the fight got broken up and I kept going. I walked into this place and it is dirty I do not want to touch anything. I was surprised that i was asked if i needed help almost right away by a very nice employee. He took me over to the location of the parts and I found the one i was looking for, it was 4 times the price of any place i looked, 5 times the online price. I asked for a manager to see if we could do anything about that, i went to pull out my phone and show him the pricing and he said it did not matter, the price is the price. and walked away. This will be my last time in this place.
