They have really great brands and a friendly staff but their bike shop is inept and they dont stand behind their products. First they sold me a 29 inch Gary Fisher for someone who is 5 foot 6. I am 6 foot 1 inch. Then they sold me a $300 bike rack that was defective, and while they did exchange it for a Yakima (floor model at no discount) I discovered they did not give me the correct keys to unlock the lock portion of the rack and when I called to point this out to them they told me they couldnt find the correct keys and it would be my responsibility to contact Yakima and deal with the cost and hassle of acquiring a new core. This kind of business is dangerous at worst (selling someone a bike that small) and poor customer service at best. I will not be doing business with them again and feel embarrassed after the amount of money I have spent with them over the years. (2 bikes, 2 rack systems and thousands in accessories and camping equipment)

While the ski tune ups are always well done, the service is what makes me wish St Louis had another quality ski service shop in town. Picking up skis at the Kirkwood location after sending them from the OFallon IL location was a mess. First, theres no clear sign designating where the ski shop is so we waited in the long check out line to pay. When we were redirected to the back of the store and found the ski shop, three men were behind the counter and it still took about five to ten minutes for someone to acknowledge us as the only other people back there or to say "someone will be with you shortly". Lastly, the man that gave me back my skis forgot to give back my ski clip until my mom realized it wasnt with our skis. Skis look great, but will be looking for a better place to go for great service before our ski trip next year.

My husband called in to see if they had certain canoe paddles in stock and was assured they did. So after work a few hours later I drove 25 minutes out of my way (50 min total) to buy them, only to find out they didnt actually have them. And I had to wait 30 minutes for them to figure out their inventory. Apparently they sold out before I got there, if you believe that. And if the stock was so limited, that would have been nice to know when we first called. I try very hard to shop local, so it pains me to say this, but you are much better off buying gear online directly from NRS, or wherever. Youll save a lot too, because Alpine Shop has a huge mark-up. Very disappointed with their service.

I had driven past The Alpine Shop numerous times but didnt stop in until after attending an OTA event they co-sponsored. Im super impressed with this business. They offered cheap, sometimes free classes (I took backpacking basics) and are extremely knowledgeable about their products. I felt way less pressured here than at the REI I visited in Brentwood a few hours earlier and they werent condescending (unlike at REI). I was price shopping and will definitely be back to The Alpine Shop soon.

Eric in the ski shop was awesome! I came in last Friday and expected to wait 3-4 days to have my bindings tested and adjusted. Eric did it while I waited 20mins. Great customer service. I will definitely recommend all my friends and family to the alpine shop after experiencing that level of service.

I loved going there while growing up in high school. I would drive out to Webster Grove just to do window shop on camping equipment before they moved to Kirkwood. To this day I still window shop hoping to snag a good sales in a clearance section.

One of the best outdoor experience stores I have ever come upon! The variety and selection is fantastic with all the big names in outdoor gear. It made me miss our backpacking days from many years ago. Friendly staff and expert advice is on hand.

Went in there a couple years ago and staff was knowledgeable. Went there last week and current staff tried to help me but I could tell the experience of the staff has changed. They were friendly, just not very experienced.

Great store with amazing staff members. I had opportunity to interact with Ben and he is lovely person will give you honest suggestions and which products to buy. This store is very huge compared to the one in Ofallan.

The employees at the Alpine Shop treat you like family, and each person is extremely knowledgeable in their respective area. Sye is the master with hiking boots, and with hiking/backpacking advice.
