I really wanted to like this place. I agreed with the sentiment that perhaps this was the best kept secret for furniture in the twin cities. The sales staff was superb. They were able to secure a great deal on a sectional for me and I more than happily took it. The sectional was from Room and Board and while it wasnt in pristine condition, I thought I was getting a solid price for such a fine piece of contemporary furniture. I ended up paying $2200 and it was the biggest furniture purchase Ive ever made but thought it was warranted since it was going into my very first home. It was around the first week of June that I made the purchase. When I checked out with the sales associate, she said there was a delivery option for $100. I explained that I was purchasing the sectional for my first home but wasnt going to close until June 26th. I thought it was a good idea to purchase the sectional and delivery service and have it delivered right after I close so that I didnt have to haul the sectional to my current residence at the time and then haul it again to the new house. She confirmed this would work perfectly. Since the close was three weeks away, she also added that they would take the sectional off of the floor, wrap it up, and store it in their warehouse in the mean time. Had this been the case, this wouldve been an easy 5-star rating. Over the next three weeks, I recall mentioning Designer Marketplace to my friends and coworkers on at least four occasions, highly suggesting they should check the place out since I had such a good experience. However, the weekend prior to my close date on the 26th, I was in the area and decided to stop by Designer Marketplace to look at some shelving options for the new home. A walk around the store and lo and behold, my sectional happens to be sitting in the exact same spot as the day I first saw it! It was not taken off of the floor, it was not wrapped up and stored in a warehouse, it was just sitting there as if it was still for sale. Three weeks had gone by and I only wondered how many other customers had tried my sectional out, put their feet up on the cushions, had their kids jump on chase, etc.? While it was never in pristine condition, I was certain at this time, it was a little worse for wear than when i purchased it three weeks prior. The store owner greeted me and asked if I needed any assistance. I appreciated his gesture but then told him that I purchased the sectional three weeks ago and asked why it was still sitting there, holding in just how pissed I was. I think I caught him off guard as he went on to try to suggest that his warehouse was so unkempt and unfitting to house the sectional that the best place to store it was right here, on the salesfloor. He told me that he instructed the sales associate to not remove the sectional, as if to suggest that he was looking out for my interests in withholding the sectional from the godawful warehouse. He even tried to refluff the deflated cushions to show that it was in fine shape. If what he said was true, (highly doubted), that the warehouse was indeed an unfit place to store the sectional and that the salesfloor was the best place to hold it, then the least he or anyone there could have done was to cover it up with something, anything! Hell, I wouldve been slightly happier if they had just put a simple handwritten sign on the sectional that read "sold." ANY effort to demonstrate that this sectional was accounted for by me would have gone a long way. But NO! For three weeks, the sectional just sat there presumptively for sale, welcoming customers to try it out. While the warehouse story was a poor excuse, the inaction to do anything and just let the sectional sit for new customers to try out was simply inexcusable. The owner did try to make it up to me by "giving me a deal" on anything I wanted in the store. I saw an industrial looking book shelf from Restoration HW that I liked priced at $890. He offered it to me for $675. I found it on RHs website for $550. never again.

The owner of this store is as unscrupulous of a con man as I have ever encountered in my life. Do not EVER buy anything from this store unless you have a furniture expert with you who can verify you are getting a fair deal. My experience was so bad and I felt so intimidated that it has taken me months just to muster the courage to post this review. I purchased a furniture set from this store that was supposedly a high-end brand of leather furniture. The owner, Jeff Farahan, explicitly told me it was that brand before I made the purchase. After signing the purchase receipt and returning home, I did some research online and discovered that the furniture I had purchased for almost $2,000 was actually a cheap knock-off brand available elsewhere for less than half that price. (I also found much of the other furniture in the store (all supposedly high-end) through the same knock-off manufacturer website.) When I contacted Mr. Farahan, he refused to cancel the sale and refund my payment, even though this was mere hours after the purchase. He cited his "all sales final" policy. (If I learned one thing through this experience, it is NEVER sign anything that says all sales final.) I had to fight with Mr. Farahan about this for weeks. To make a long story short, after much verbal intimidation, I finally agreed to a refund less a 6% fee, supposedly to cover "nonrefundable" credit processing fees Mr. Farahan claimed were charged him by his credit processor (something anyone who works in the credit or banking fields knows is absurd). I ended up paying over $100 to get absolutely nothing, except many days of stress and intimidation. Bottom line: stay far, far away from this store!

Designer Marketplace has been one positive experience after another. I have made two separate purchases with Designer Marketplace and have been 100% satisfied with both. The first was a charcoal couch, two matching pillows and a queen size box spring. I had all these delivered to my residence and they arrived about 3-4 days after the purchase. Delivery crew was great. I live on the third floor of an old apartment building (no a/c) and it seemed like the hottest day of the year when the delivery team showed up. Despite the humidity, the team was very friendly and had positive attitudes. The stairs were too narrow in the front of the building so they delivery guys had to find another route, eventually figuring out the back stairs were slightly wider. They successfully got the couch into my apartment and I am very happy with the couch so far. Very comfy and spacious. Im a 63 male and Im able to lay fully across the couch with room for my dog who likes the couch more than me some how. My second purchase was a few months later and I bought a rug to accomate the couch and help "warm up" my apartment that has all hardwood floors. The staff at the store has always been very helpful and genuine. They care about what they do and it really shows in the way they treat their customers. Three thumbs up for this furniture store tucksd just outside downtown MPLS. Definitely recommend this store to anyone!!!
