I have shopped here for years but no more! Yesterday. I found an interesting electronic item for only $1.49! But at the check out (while purchasing the rest of my $130 of merchandise, the cashier called for a Manager, they spoke in spanish, then told me that the item was mismarked and they could not sell it to me. (It was an astronomy tool of some sort with its matching carrying case.) I was told it should have been priced seperately for the case and the item. WHAT?? They would not sell it to me. I asked for the store manager and an overweight. disheveled, angry scowling elderly man came to the register, looked at the item and took the electronic instrement and said it was not for sale. I protested saying they are clearly together as both the item and case had the same name painted/emroidered on each. He told me that it was mis-marked, that it should have been in the high end case and that it was not for sale until it is priced individually... That it would have to be taken in back and priced then returned to the sale floor. So I asked him to do that, to price it for me and I would purchase it. (I had already called my grandson who was excited about it and aked me to buy it for him.) he refused. I pointed out that I had been shopping there for years and was a good and loyal customer, and asked why he couldnt just price it for me now. He refused and in a loud, very nasty tone of voice and with an even nastier, angry face replied, "If you were a good customer you would know our policies, Im not going to stand here and argue with you!" and took the item and walked away! I disagree that their pricing error should have resulted in them deciding at the checkout not to sell the item, but more than anything I am appauled by the treatment of the manager!! He approached me with an angry demeanor, would not look at me or talk to me until I asked him a question directly, and even then, Would not assist me or even tell me why would it be so difficult, under the circumstances, to make a good customer happy and price the item right then so that I could have purchased it that night. Why? Ill tell you why... it is because this was during a 50% off sale for the Unique Cardholders so that by holding it they could make twice as much the next day. He refused to set it aside for me to purchase the next day or to extend the sale to me for that item that they claim to have erroneously originally priced and thought was too good of a bargain! WHAT A COMPLETE RIP OFF and easily THE MOST HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE from a store manager (Who, by the way, refused to identify himself or his managers name or even give me a way to contact the parent company/HQ.) I love a bargain, but I refuse to shop at a business whose obvious practice is to SCREW THE CUASTOMER at every opportunity! Oh by the way, it is important to add that on at least four occassions that I can remember, I have seen a price determined at the checkout for unpriced items! This was clearly about them thinking they could make more money from another disillusioned shopper. Unique is out of business as far as I am concerned and you can bet that everyone I know will hear about this! One more thing, as the parent of three college-aged sons with three more children and a foster child at home, we shop there a lot... I added up out last two months reciepts and they are a few pennies over $599.00! But this "Manager" did not feel that I was a good customer! What a shame...

This is a HUGE store, in my opinion. What I like about this place, other than it being close to my house: * Everything is organized: purses/socks/belts for men & then a diff section for women/kids * Free, available parking * Friendly staff * The clothes are organized by size! This IS a HUGE plus for me, as other places go by color. * they have sale days, but I never remember them * The prices-- I agree that sometimes they charge more than whats in the actual store (that they may have gotten it from), but A) they simply dont know where the items come from and B) they cant price below what you could have paid. Just know your prices ahead of time OR Maybe youre willing to pay their prices, because you know youd have to go to 3 different stores to get those cheaper prices. This is what I got today: 10.1 fl oz of brand new Redken shampoo for colored hair valued at $17.99, bought for $2.99, 5 brand new it cosmetics make up items that value at $34-69 each bought for 9.99 total, bath and body works lotion brand new valued at $12, 10oz, bought for $2.99. What a deal! Now, I dont always find stuff, but I try to keep a positive outlook, and I simply love thrifting!

I went into Unique earlier this week and had two carts completely full (overflowing) of stuff I was going to buy. An employee came up to me and asked me if I wanted her to take one of my carts up to the front of the store (since I was pulling one and pushing the other). When I finished my shopping, I saw my cart with a sign on it saying the cart was being held for a customer (me). I pushed my cart toward the register, and the same employee took the initiative and opened up another register for me and my two carts. After the sale, she asked if I wanted help with the bags since theyre were way to many for me to handle and since the carts can not go outside. They suggested I pull my van up which I did. Two male employees grabbed two bags each and met me in front of the store with my stuff!! I honestly felt I was at a HIGH END store with the attention given to me!! P.S. I also agree with Ariel and her comments.

I really enjoyed this store the first several times I shopped here. Merchandise was great, prices were competitive, and personnel was friendly. But I dont shop there any more. Prices at most thrift stores have risen as the economy has declined, but this stores prices are higher than most. Last time I shopped there, signs were posted which indicated that all the seasonal merchandise was 75% off. However, when checking out, I had to remind the cashier of that policy on several different items. He didnt seem to speak English but Im not sure if that was because he didnt - or wanted to appear that he didnt. I dont care whether people in the private sector speak English or not - but if they are working retail, they should be able to communicate with the customers. A friend I was shopping with had the same problem and was charged full price ion several seasonal items. Not recommended!

I love Unique thrift in Columbia Heights , but their electronics are way overpriced! I was in today and was going to grab a pair of vintage speakers , and luckily I pulled the screens off which revealed blown speakers ( $39.99 ). if your going to price correctly , check out the condition of the items your pricing! Also , theres multiple collectibles with chips , cracks , or glued broken pieces , and your charging over $7.00 or more for something thats probably garbage. I showed one broken piece to a worker and they said " Unique doesnt care, and I just put stuff on a shelf ". I love the store and Im a regular , and otherwise Im happy , but just get right with the pricing and quit ripping people off with overpriced broken items that arent priced correctly!
