Stavrakis Jewelers damaged my engagement/wedding ring setting beyond repair and charged me $95 to get my ring back. It has cost me an additional $400 to buy a replacement setting. I dropped it off with the owner over my lunch hour on 8/18/16, for a minor size adjustment and replating. He took my order and inspected my ring, noting that the carbon in the diamond resembled an antelope, and that my ring was slightly crooked (I’ve had it almost 18 years). Nothing else was noted. I was told it would take a week to get my ring back. A week came and went, and I received no call on my ring. I called on 8/26 to ask when my ring would be finished. At that time the owner told me that it wasn’t done. It would be third in line the NEXT week and to expect it to be ready on 8/30. I was also instructed NOT to call them. THEY would call me when it was READY. The next week came and no call. I called late the afternoon of 9/1 to inquire once again before the Labor Day holiday weekend. I was told my ring had been READY for over a WEEK and that they had left me a message on 8/23. They had NOT left a message. I then went to pick up the ring on my way home from work. When I got there around 5:20 pm, I told the owner had not received a call OR a message from them and asked what happened. At first he tried to deny everything, but I pressed the issue gently. He then said he must have put my card in the wrong pile and called the wrong number, resulting in the extra week wait. I then asked to see my ring. He unwrapped it and handed it to me as if everything was fine. I immediately tried it on to check the fit. I tried it on and it was HUGE. Much too big to wear without a temporary guard. He said maybe they made a mistake: “It happens.” He claimed it was an 8.5, but didn’t show me how it measured, and deliberately stepped away from me while he checked the size. I then noticed that my ring, which was hollow, had collapsed on one side, flattening the shape. This WAS NOT AT ALL how my ring looked when I dropped it off. There was also another small section on the other side that had the same issue. The result was a misshapen ring, its quality compromised. When I pointed it out he seemed unconcerned and thought his “guy” could build it back up with gold. He wanted me to leave the ring there so he could ask his guy. I asked him to call him instead. He did. They had a brief conversation. When he hung up, not only could they not repair it, I was informed that his guy claimed my ring had a large dent (IT DID NOT) and that it was my fault because my ring was hollow. That it is common knowledge this happens when hollow rings are polished. It isn’t common knowledge to me, nor was I informed about this being a possibility when I dropped it off and I told him this. Nor were they upfront about the damage. I calmly told him my ring was unacceptable and asked if he had a similar setting as a replacement. He pushed some catalogs at me while he went about closing his store for the night (well before his 6pm closing time), telling me it wasn’t a big deal and he’d sell me a new one and buy my old setting from me. And they could get to resizing that in about a week. I was forced to pay just to get my damaged ring back. The next day I brought the ring to another jeweler to inspect. I was told that IT IS NOT common for hollow rings to collapse UNLESS the person working on them is careless and pushes way too hard. A dent, which I did not have, shouldn’t have caused that. The inspector said it was purely poor work that caused it. The jeweler also showed me how my diamond was still dirty on the underside and my prongs were in need of replacing, neither of which Stavrakis Jewelers addressed/mentioned. Both my bank and the Better Business Bureau attempted to work with Stavrakis Jewelers on my behalf to recover the $95 I had to pay to get my ring back and the owner refused. He tried to claim I only paid $45 and when I sent photos of the actual receipt and damage to the ring, he ceased all communication.

Always friendly and patient. I cant comment too much on the prices since Im not a "jewelry comparison" kind of guy. I wish they still had a watch "guy" to do repairs, but they are not as common as they used to be with the programs thinning out.

Had an non-traditional ring that was a hair too large. They laid out the options of compressing vs sizing and were willing to give it a go. Compression worked perfectly and was done in a couple of minutes while I waited. Very friendly too!

We have had several experiences here in the last few months. We left happy each time. You cant ask for more than that.
