This is a tale of two dealerships: Motor City Powersports in Bloomfield Hills and Honda Suzuki of Warren. Both dealerships had the bike I wanted, which was new but a model year old with manufacturer incentives. Warren’s website price was $500 lower than Motor City’s, but Motor City permits test rides, which its competitors do not. I decided to visit both. At Warren, the website price was posted on the bike. I was greeted by a friendly and low-key Jeff. He asked me some pointed questions to ensure that I was looking at the right bike for my needs, and then answered all of my questions. I asked him for an out-the-door price, and he came back in two minutes with a price that was the sum of the website price plus freight plus sales tax. No pressure, no nonsense. At Motor City, the prices are not posted on the bikes. The sales person had arranged for my test ride and he had the bike ready for me. After the test ride, we sat down to discuss price and he put together a number based on the STICKER price. Surprised, I responded that I thought he should start with the price being advertised on their website. He claimed that he didn’t know about the sale price because “no one told me,” which I thought odd because (1) you would expect that sales people would know about special deals and (2) at least he would have checked for incentives since he’d known for almost a week that I was coming in to see the bike. So he recalculated the out-the-door price, which was significantly higher than even the $500 premium to Warren’s. I then showed him the Warren website, which resulted in his almost-cliché trip to the sales manager’s office to discuss it. After ten minutes he came back to me with a price that was still almost $300 higher than Warren’s price because it was stacked with all sorts of add-ons, e.g., documentation fee, etc. I was prepared to pay $50, or even $100, more to Motor City because the test ride had real value to me, but no test ride is worth $300, especially when I had to ask three times just to get that price. I told him that I needed to think about it and he came at me with the classic, “What can I do to get you to buy this today?” Ugh. I went back to Warren and got Jeff to throw in a set of saddle bags at a discount, and we did a deal. I asked Jeff if they could store the bike for me until Spring since it was too cold outside to ride it, and he responded that he couldn’t store it but would be glad to deliver it, which he did two days later. I asked him how much gas it had in it because I would need to add Stabil to the tank for the winter, and he responded that the tank was full and he had ALREADY added fuel stabilizer for me since he knew it would be sitting until Spring. Wow! My buying experience at Warren was great in every respect and it would be pleasure to give them my business in the future, hence I give them FIVE STARS. Because of Motor City’s lack of (1) transparent pricing, (2) sales staff knowledge, (3) willingness to compete on price, I award them only TWO STARS. However, their policy of permitting test rides is of value, so I’ll give them an extra star for that: THREE STARS total.

I bought the Honda Lawnmower HRX2174HYA from them about 2-3 weeks ago and after getting it back from their mechanic Im putting it on Craigslist. I keep saying this its not their fault the lawn mower is so terrible its Hondas which is odd If you think like I do because I thought Honda made great Lawn Mowers until I tried this thing out. This Lawnmower has a serious design flaw a horrible clumping problem. I wrote Honda an e-mail immediately after my first cut to try to find out what to do but they didnt respond until I got seriously upset at the cutting when I couldnt finish my Lawn due to over clumping stopping the blades. They finally wrote me back when I told them I was taking it back to Honda Suzuki to try to get a refund and Honda Basically said they wont be giving me a refund and absolutely ignored my problems and I guess they called Honda Suzuki and Honda Suzuki claims they had to talk Honda out of lowering my warranty to a 3 month commercial warranty. IDK If thats true but if so it was nice of Honda Suzuki to stop them screwing me over for the 2nd time. Honda Suzuki did not give me a refund which is why they get the 2 stars (Lowes and Home Depot would have given me a refund) They had the Mechanic look at it and told me nothing was wrong with it and basically explained that I was just spoiled by my 15 year old Lawn mower that is better than this one. I would have given them one star but the Staff was very friendly and I would say helpful but they didnt get me the one thing I wanted which was a refund. I sort of feel bad about giving them such a low star rating but it is only true that even though the staff was friendly this was not a happy experience. Hopefully I can cut my losses, check craigslist detroit if you want to see the lawnmower.

I had bought a motorcycle off of these guys in 2008. The service was great...but they are very loose with their words in explaining how their HSBC loan program worked. They told me in 5 years I would have paid it off, the first 2 years were interest only and the last 3 were the principle. What a crock. 4 years later I have paid all my payment on time and on an $8k bike I have only paid off $1700 (I have already paid $6000 on the bike but only $1700 of the principle has actually been paid off in 4 years, the rest in interest) The only way I could pay it off in 5 years is if I were paying $500 a month on it which is ridiculous of a eight thousand dollar bike. And I was offered a 12k credit limit and tried to use my card there a year later and they said HSBC filed for bankruptcy and I couldnt use the card to fix my bike. So I got screwed by there lack of knowledge they had on there loan services and not going into detail about how much interest I would actually be paying. Because if I knew I would be paying on this bike for 10-15 years I would not have EVER done business with them. So pretty much an $8,000 bike is going to cost me $24,000...SUPER! Should of got a harley! Update: You guys offered me ONE financing option, and again you knew HSBC was a bad company and never even mentioned that. They were bought out by capital one. You do not know who I am so how can you know what you offered me? Your response is asinine and misleading. If I knew I couldnt use the credit at your business down the road I would have never been financed through HSBC. Make sure you are clear with your customers.

This place is a great place to do business with. I have bought parts, an ATV, and had service done. I would have bought my first bike from them a few years ago except the sales person at that time and I did not see eye to eye. (He has since moved on to other horizons) Which is why I went back, had a great conversation with Jeff and bought a ATV on the spot for my wife. He was very knowledgeable and helped us pick out a correct size and style/type of ATV. The service department rocks, I have had my Goldwing in for general maintenance, and a couple of recalls. The did an outstanding job. I have ordered many parts for my bikes, along with shields, gloves and some accessories. I know the internet can be cheaper sometimes, but it cant always answer my questions, its nice to talk to someone. So I buy the parts and get great info and tips from the folks here. I have 5 bikes and one ATV. They have serviced 3 of my bikes and Ive never had a problem. If you do have a problem, talk to the manager, he is always very helpful and should be able to straighten out most issues, or at least he always has for me.
