Ive been going to XS for years. Andy is very knowledgeable and proficient piercer. He has always exhibited a warm and mellow attitude while performing what can be a stressful and exciting experience for most.Every single piercing I have received from him has healed beautifully & the placement is perfect. He has performed every piercing of mine, freehand. Which in my opinion, is so much better then using clamps, which can just cause more trauma to the area. The shop itself, is very clean and welcoming most of the time. At times, you can be waiting around for someone to talk to while everyone is working. However, most of the time, there is at least one person at the counter to greet you. As for quality of tattoo work, indeed, the color and detail of both Matt & Mikes work is quite impressive. I can only critique Mike, as hes the only one Ive gotten ink from @ XS. My first tattoo from him was colorful, full of detail and great shading, however, he was very heavy-handed. The entire tattoo formed a thick scab and healing was rough as it was a large ankle piece. Once it was healed, it looked amazing, however, over the years, one part of the outline has blown out and looks fuzzy. It is possible that the healing and blowout arent Mikes fault, however, Ive never reacted that way to a tattoo before or after that. I went back to Mike years later for a couple more tattoos. One was a simple idea, which he turned into something even better. His ideas and custom work is really where he shines. Everyone loves this tattoo almost as much as I do. However, being on my wrist, I tend to stare at it often and notice every single flaw. There is negative space in the tattoo, where the lines are uneven and again, he was a bit heavy-handed, which caused some scaring within the tattoo. My next one was again, pretty simple idea and execution. He did a great job with placement and making look right. This time, he wasnt as heavy-handed as previous times, however, there were some very small circles that were filled in, which were filled outside of the line. All the negative points aside, most of it is the perfectionist in me, and these things, no one ever notices except me because I have to look at them everyday. But in the end Im glad to have them and they were worth it. Speaking of, XS charges a bit more then an average walk-in, pick it off the wall shop. Custom work takes more effort and time to plan, so naturally, that is included into the $50-100 an hour price tag. This is a place to go to for larger & more detailed ideas. When you give them something simple or small, they kind of treat you like your not a challenge, so less interested type of attitude. Its not blatant, but not hard to read either. If your considering going to XS, please do, check it out & talk to the artists. I havent got any work done there for a couple of years, so things may have changed a bit regarding pricing, attitude, and technique.

I have heard good things about XS and was eager to check it out but was highly dissapointed on my first visit. I was ready to pay my deposit and set up an appointment until I talked with the gentleman behind the counter (who was not a tattoo artist). He was extremely rude and anything but helpful. As a tattoo is very permanent I am always cautious before committing. I was told that not only could I not see the design on my body prior to the apt day. but if I had any changes the day of it was going to be a problem. I stressed that I dont live close to Rochester at which point I was told that "none of the employees live close to XS". Personally I could care less how far an employee has to drive and it came across very condesending. Its a shame that there was no client service provied on my visit as Im sure the artists are extremely talented. My experience was poor enough that I will not recommend anyone to visit this shop and will deter anyone who is interested. Its a shame...wish I knew the guys name!

XS is *the* place to go in Oakland county for a high quality tattoo. The people there are very skilled, and super down to earth. Its very clean, and professional. This isnt the place to walk into and get some ink 20 minutes later, though. The folks at XS specialize at doing more custom work, where you present the artist with the idea on what youre looking for, and they will draw it up for you. Considering its going to be on your body for the rest of your life, the extra wait time is worth it. Check out their website, and get a feel for which artist will best be able to do what youre looking for, then set up an appointment to meet with them. You wont be disappointed!

Chase is the ONLY person Ill trust with my skin from now on. From the start he was personable and never made me feel rushed. He works super clean, no doubts about the sterility of his station. The design was amazing, beyond what I expected, and his work is incredibly detailed. Hes attentive, honest, and terrifically talented. Im in love with my tattoo and get stopped frequently by people asking who the artist is. Im happy to send them to Chase, I cant recommend him enough. Hes a real gem, a rare drama-free tattoo artist with talent that will knock your socks off. The rest of the staff is friendly and helpful as well and the whole shop is inviting and clean.

Both my husband and I got our tattoos here. Amazing service, extremely knowledgeable, fantastic artists. I cant say enough good things about how much we love XS. We both had Mike and we LOVE our tattoos. Excellent quality. Exceptionally clean and well organized. Well be back soon for more! I also got my nose pierced here by Andy. Amazing experience. Makes you want to get something else done because it was so easy!

As soon as I walked in the door I knew I picked the right place to get my first tattoo. Everyone was very nice and easy going. The place was super clean. You can tell the artists take pride in their shop. My tattoo was done by Mike and he did awesome! I love my tattoo and he gave great advice on placement and size. If I get the guts to get another tattoo I will definetly go back!

I went in yesterday to meet with Mr. Rich Hartwick he has magic and talent hands, he makes you feel relax , comfortable , and explains everything , I love my piercing and would recommend him highly, he is professional , his work area is super professional .If you are long for a body piercing he is worth the drive as well as wait

Mad as Hell ---- this place took my money --- then 3 days later told me they could not do the tattoo I requested --- all I wanted to do is add my husbands initials --- people be aware they dont allow you to do names or initials that sucks who are they to tell me what I can and cannot have on my body

Got a piercing and it couldnt have been a better experience. Andy listened to what I wanted and was very helpful with answering my questions. The staff was friendly and helpful, no one was rude like some of the other reviews say. The price was lower than expected. Very happy! Highly recommended.
