I love shopping at ulta, however the other day i tried the salon to get my hair highlighted. They booked me with the salon manager Mary. I thought wow, since this cost me $230 it is going to look amazing. Wrong. It wasnt a total nightmare, but more like a $50 job. So after seeing it in some different lighting, my roots were yellow, brassy and than after about an inch they were a pretty blonde. So i go in to ask her if she will tone it and toss some highlights in the roots and she argued with me about the job. Told me that toning it will turn in grey, and im like no, not if you do it correctly. Well she gives me attitude but does what i ask. She did end up turning a small piece grey. When i was obviously horrified she was like "well i told you that would happen" after a little more attitude she said she knows a technique to fix the grey piece, brings me back to the sink and fixes it. After this the color looked great. But why did she have to argue, why couldnt she have fixed the small grey piece without the attitude. For $230 I expect my hair to look amazing. I dont mind paying whatever it takes for great looking hair, however we are in muskegon, not hollywood.That amount of money is pretty extreme. Oh and both times she didnt get the conditioner all the way washed out, and it felt greasy and nasty and i had to go home and wash it again. Mary at the muskegon Ulta, is AWFUL!!!!

I have gone to Ulta in Muskegon for 5 years...have never had a bad outcome until 8/6/2016...my stylist was Mary...we did a consultation and decided on highlights and lowlights and the COLOR I wanted....as she was slapping the color on (like she was painting a barn)she blurted out "oh I changed the color...just trust me"....then she pointed to the color she changed it to....it was a photo of a bright YELLOW hair color....I said"OMG I HOPE NOT"....well 1 1/2 hours later....she is putting me under the dryer and SLAPPING more BLEACH on my already wrapped foils.....the low lights she chose were bright YELLOW....I chose a pale muted blond....$121.00 is what she charged me for her mistake....the foil job was the worst I have EVER seen....I wrap better than that and I have not had training.....Mary has a problem with NOT listening to the customer...she really should NOT be a stylist...during the wrapping she was barking at the employees with such disrespect....Ulta use to be the place I went to ...but everyone that used to be there is no longer there...including my favorite stylist ....so sad that this store has gone down in customer service.There is so much more I need to say about this appointment....and Mary....all in the area of poor customer service and rudeness ......

The only reason I am even giving this store one star is because there isnt a zero star option. My sisters and I have frequented Ulta for most of our beauty care needs and as a matter of fact, when my sister had her wedding renewal, the wedding party went there to coordinate their looks for the big day. Ive never had a problem with them until recently. We went into the Muskegon store a couple of days ago to replenish our lipstick stash. We had our children with us, who were all quietly sitting in chairs, minding their manners. The sales associate who was "helping" us actually said, "I usually cringe whenever people bring their children into this store. This is NOT a childrens store." I think initially he was "complimenting" us because our children were not running wild all over the store, however, when we went to check out my sisters and I could see him rolling his eyes at us. The Assistant Manager was actually running the cash register so we mentioned our dismay at the situation to which she completely blew us off. As a store that caters to women, Ulta should be a little more mindful of not insulting their target customers. My sisters and I will be shopping at the Sephora across the street from now on.

Excellent customer service. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Willing to let you try out almost any product and provide samples when able. They have tons of different make up brands available and multiple services are offered there. They have a hair salon, brow bar, and the do facials. Great store.
