Although upon entering the Kalamazoo area Field & Stream department store I felt a cold blast of AC hit my face calling me from the hot sub Sahara temperatures present outside I was greeted by a gentleman named Aaron who knew too much about fishing in and in fact had me wondering if even fished all perhaps the YouTube keyboard warrior we all know to well he said in an authoritative tone of voice at a maximum distance of 3 inches that some people have a tacklebox but Aaron has a pole barn. although this man stated was helpful and nice he does not play nice in the river he Titans his drag all the way in the winches the fish rate to his feet a man of such authority demands the most out of his equipment and "Aaron the 300 day your fisherman overall experience seven out of 10 would return the store to again if I could find time to get off the river and hear more of Aarons tall tales.

My husband was so excited about the store opening this spring in Kalamazoo. He had been waiting for the store to open to purchase a fish finder. He thought he would be able to speak to someone and get some questions answered. We waited a couple of weeks to allow for the crowds to die down. We went early on a Monday morning. We asked the sales person if he could answer a few questions when he was done waiting on another customer. We waited approximately 45 minutes. The sales person made no attempt to acknowledge us or the fact that we had been waiting for such a long, and he continued to chit chat with another customer. I felt that he had no interest in helping us and consequently we left without buying a fish finder (which would have been a substantial sale). After that experience, I will not go back to that store and I will tell all my friends not to go. Very disappointed!!

Went in today to look at Hand Guns. My friend and I stood patiently looking at all they had to offer while the sales associate was helping another customer. Once he was done he walked directly past us, not even looking at us, and went to talking to some other employees. We waited another 10 min looking and started to walk over to the counter to talk to them but they all went to the back room as I walked their direction. This left no one at the gun counter and I counted 3 other customers not being helped. I was seriously looking at buying, but am going to take my business elsewhere now. Store was nice but that does not make a bit of difference if you dont have good sales associates. Sorry to say I wont be coming back...

My wife and I accidentally stumbled in from out of town on the Grand Opening and it was great. The line wrapped the store but moved very fast (think Old Navy on Black Friday but a 15 minute wait instead of 45). SW Michigan has for a long time needed an outdoorsman shop that caters to more than just hunting and bass fishing. This F&S caters to a much wider realm of outdoor sports, particularly fly fishing. Their fly section is massive, honestly one of the best Ive seen. They also carry practically any standard camp good youd ever need. Just put in an REI and SW Michigan is set! Never had to leave Kzoo for any outdoor needs.

Slightly long review. Synopsis: Store is meh. Better alternatives around the area. More of a hunting store. I approached the location quite anxious to see the wonders inside. I am an avid fisherman. I browsed the location for around a half hour. Mostly in the fishing area. I was greeted by the hostess but sadly to say that was the only time an employee acknowledged my existence. I believe the fishing selection is not any better than Gander Mountains. The best store for fishing equipment in the area is D&R Sports Center. Although some of the sales people are a bit snobby there.

Loved the store and their selection, but the staff they hired is terrible. Awful service from both of the guys I attempted to talk with. One totally ignored me and the other was kind of snobby when I asked a few questions and was quick to talk to the male customers right next to me. I guess being a female who enjoys outdoor sports means being at the bottom of the list. I did spend a decent amount of money on fishing gear but sadly wont be coming back even though I loved the store. Hire people with better customer service instead of these dorks.

We shop every outdoor store. The good- clean store, friendly employees, some good prices, large selection of items. The bad- felt like camouflaged Dicks, staff while great employees, ambassadors of the store welcoming and helpful were not like cabellas where employees not only are the above but are sportsman as well and can act as mini guides so to say. To be honest we did not talk with all employees so there could be some. Amazon best prices by about 30% on expensive items. Certainly worth a visit to judge for yourself.

I recently visited the Kalamazoo store looking for a firearm that I had in mind for home defense. The two employees working at the firearms counter were so busy talking and dry-firing guns at each other that they never took note of me standing at the counter for the 20 minutes or so that I was there. I am extremely disappointed in what I saw there not only from a customer service standpoint but also from a safety standpoint. I hope that they correct this issue soon. They have lost my business.

I would give this store a solid three based solely on the fact that they do seem to have a nice selection of outdoor equipment. Unfortunately none of the employees seem to know anything about said equipment, nor does customer service seem to be a top priority and that accounts for the store only getting three stars. In conclusion, if you have done all of the research yourself and cant wait to ha e it delivered from an online store, go for it, otherwise I would hit a Cabelas.

As a guy who has grown up a few miles from the beach his whole life in Los Angeles, I was curious to see what an outdoor-lifestyle store would be like in the Midwest. First off, its huge. Its a totally different world than where Im from when you need such a large selection of guns, knives, and crossbows in a relatively small town. The staff was super friendly here, asking me if I needed any help.

Decent selection of products, but terrible customer service. I spent an hour wandering around the firearms section trying to get help. Both guys behind the counter looked right at me and walked away. It was pretty dead at the time, so I have no idea what the issue was. I set the items, which were fairly expensive to begin with, down right where I stood and walked out of the store.

Employees did not seem to know the products. They had to find a supervisor to answer most questions. Restrooms were inadequate for the size of the store. One week after opening at 10 AM when the store was not busy there was a line for mens room. Only one stool, it was dirty the paper towel holder was broken and no soap in the dispenser. Over all not a good experience.
