This place tends to get a bad wrap sometimes from the uninformed so lets set the record straight. The most common complaint I hear is "its dirty". Dont mistake an old building for filthiness, with the amount of foot traffic this place gets theyre constantly cleaning it all day. Every time Im in there someone is sweeping or organizing. One other common argument is "its not as fresh". To this one I have to counter, with the amount of stuff they sell every day they have no other option but to keep refreshing the stock throughout the day. More people shop here than other places. This means that theyre selling more items which means they are receiving more shipments of products than other stores and throwing more stock and therefore their produce is actually more fresh than everywhere else I have experienced. Of course, when I ask these people if theyve actually been there they usually say "no". Now, for my actual review. The store has the same and as many products as you would have at any conventional grocery store except theyre very inexpensive here in comparison to other stores. For the price I pay for three bags of groceries elsewhere I literally walk away with a heaping carriage full here. They offer generic products as well which are usually cheaper and actually taste exactly the same, which isnt usually the case other places. As stated, the meat and produce are very fresh, arguably the freshest. You will find all your common fruit and vegetables plus a plethora of other fruits and vegetables from around the world. The baked goods section is very large and in my opinion above the quality of other grocery stores, as well as being inexpensive. There is a large frozen goods section, large dairy section, deli and seafood. The store also offers an international foods aisle with other items you may not find elsewhere without going to specialty stores. In other words, it has everything else your grocery store has but more and its cheaper. Despite the store being very busy, I have never had to wait in line longer than five minutes to check out. The cashiers are used to the flow of traffic and therefore are very skilled and quick. The staff in general is very helpful all around. The bottom line is there isnt an excuse not to go here!

Prices arent really that competitive once you rationalize that they sell lower quality items such as select meats. The service is rather mediocre in most cases especially on weekends and holidays as thats when part timers work which receive minimum wage or close to that contrary to popular belief plus the store does more business than what it can handle. While regular prices on comparable items are less, sale prices tend to be higher than their competitors which makes my grocery bill higher than their competitors. Despite the locations high volume, the freshness is not up to par as compared to other supermarkets.

I usually have great shopping experiences at this particular Market Basket. Yet this morning I asked the employee if I may please have 2 Haddock fillets. He alked away mumbling something came back 7 minutes later with a carrage full of bags of ice and started putting them in the display. Once again I said, "May I have two haddock fillets." and he says oh we dont have any haddock. So I said you couldnt tell me that 5 minutes ago and I walked away. Just more ignorance and getting paid for NOT doing their job or doing it so incorrectly....

I realize that there is a lot of competition in this area, but I hate to say, Demoulas (Market Basket) has gone the way of all the other grocery chains. There are really no REAL sale items.. The clientele has not changed for years and remain good customers. These people shopped at the Ashland store because they could get a break on their weekly needs. Well, that is gone. Today, I saw a mother with two young kids almost in in tears when she kept telling them NO, when they asked for ice cream........not in her budget. All the best.

I was at the Ashland store last Friday. A worker was replenishing the broccoli (which hasnt tasted right for a while) the label on the shelf declared Product of USA. The box she was taking it out of had Chinese writing all over it and in English was printed Asian Distributors - China. We will not and do not want to consume anything from China. They have a 20 year plan to poison America. I have a real problem with this. Apparently, Demoulas does not have a website to go and complain.

FIRST OFF: To "Eric L" who said its busier at the beginning of the month b/c of SNAP ( Foodstamps) people... You are wrong sir. ALL stores are busier at the beginning of the month plus SNAP is given out throughout the WHOLE month, not just at the beginning. Anyone ever tell you that you are rude and insulting? Well I just did. Now for my review: GREAT employees! Lots of choices! I love this place! Wish I had one closer but well worth the drive!

Cheap prices on food but it sacrifice the quality of the food sometimes especially the produce or meats, not as good as stop and shops produce or roach brothers meats. But if you’re not looking to spend a lot it the place to go. The staff is also very friendly and kind. The store itself is not very clean and need a face lift. It is very busy here especially on weekends.

Try to avoid it during peak times. The staff is always helpful and friendly. Produce are always fresh but may not last as long as those from other way way more expensive supermarkets. Prices for everything else super cheap for brand name items. I was very happy to see a new food to go option. Prices on the food to good is lowest in the neighborhood. Love this place.

The prices are awesome! If you go for canned goods, paper towels, non-perishables--anything that is the same no matter which store you shop in, then Market Basket cant be beat! Do not shop for fish, cold cuts...that area of the store smells badly! Fruit does not have a good quality. Strawberries "turn brown" in the frig right away! Veggies are ok.

Awesome place to shop for groceries. Their prices are reasonable overall and the employees treat the customers very well. If there is a negative, it is the Isles are narrow when the employees are restocking the shelves. Check out moves along very fast as one employee rings the register and a 2nd carefully bags your groceries.

The manager of this store is very rude . When I call to the store and try to resolve the issue he simply hung up the phone. This is the only store which doesnt stay behind they quality of their produce. The meat was uneatable, they blame me, the customer and neglected to refund. This store has a luck of customer service.

I totally agree that the place is a little smelly and its definitely like shopping in another country...but I do love those prices. People are ALWAYS stocking shelves. ALWAYS. And if you go at peak shopping hours youre asking for traffic jams in the parking lot, in the store, and at the registers.

Moderate to mediocre selection. Doesnt light up the board on the cleanliness scale. The chain has slightly lower prices on most items and this branch is no exception. But it pales in comparison to the newer stores in Chelsea, Burlington, Middleton. Clerks are not the sharpest bunch.
