Edit: upped to 3 stars because I understand my situation is probably rare, or maybe they were having a bad day, but this is my story. I took a dead laptop in to this Friendly Computer Services store some time in 2010. (It was a $1700-range HP, one of the ones they made that had the overheating issue). When I got in and started talking to the guy behind the counter, I told him that the laptop would not get past POST, freezing before bootstrap. The guy told me, almost without hesitation, that my hard drive was bad and they would have to replace it, and that I probably wouldnt get any of the data from it. I had been in the store no more than 5 minutes and already he had lied to me twice. Fortunately I knew that my problem was in the BIOS, and not the hard drive. I immediately left the store and called around and within a day I was able to find another business nearby that was able to provide me with a quote for an option of a hard BIOS flash or motherboard replacement, and he also gave me a quote for data recovery from my hard drive if it was necessary. None off which made economic sense, of course, and I did end up buying a new laptop rather than spending $600-$700 fixing one which I knew had a manufacturing defect. Long story short, the guys working at this Friendly Computer Services location appear to be a little rusty on their advanced stuff. If you have an abnormal problem, do your homework first or you may end up paying for services you dont need. P.S., I still have the hard drive from that old laptop. I threw it in an external case and I use it for backups. It works perfectly.

Unfriendly Services & "RUDE"!! This shops owner/sales representative was so rude, and now I totally agree with two others review having the same opinion here. I should have read their reviews before I went to this repair shop. Also, I dont think that their service is not that cheap compared to other local computer shops. They charged almost 200 bucks for the replacement of harddisk (even small volume; I dont want to specify it in case they trace back my records from their sales book!) as they insisted that it includes labor fees. The technician inside was nicer compared to the owner/sales rep. but even the tech guys work was blocked by the owner/sales rep. for further explanation to help my computer issues. I asked a simple question, to see if they sold parts as well as service. Plus, recently, two of my friends (UofMaryland students) had bad experiences when they called to ask some questions about how they work/repair for virus infected harddisk. Both of my friends just explained what happened to their computers, but they just said, "well, you do not listen to me, I have other customers here!" and they just hung up. I found out this attitude from my college park friends later on after I had similar bad experiences at the shop. It is really too bad, their location is very convenient to me, but I am sure not going there for anything else.

I came to get my computer problem diagnosed after having spent alot of time and frustration trying to connect to the internet. When I called, I spoke to John who was extremely friendly and professional. He said I could bring it in anytime and leave it to be looked at. When I came in the next day, John wrote it up and said he would let me know the next day what the problem was and how much it would cost to repair it. Just as he promised I received a call the next day and when I had a question he put the technician on the phone (RJ) who explained very clearly what the problem was and how he fixed it. Not only was my computer problem solved, but I learned how to prevent it from happening again! I highly recommend the service here to everyone! FIVE STARS*****!!!

I just needed to have memory installed in my computer and called to ask if I could bring my computer in and have it installed right away. Other places I called said Id have to leave it for days - not Friendly Computer Services. They had me bring it in the next day and installed it while I watched. They also cleaned the insides and checked to make sure the computer was recognizing the new memory and working correctly before I left. And they answered all my related, and not so related questions. It was my first time in and I will go back when needed. I highly recommend them. They are what their name implies: Friendly, accommodating and very knowledgeable. If you dont know what youre doing with computers, you can trust these guys!

Amazing service and a price that is outstanding. Never go to Best Buy where managers want to fight you or call you a thief. Go here and have a good experience. This is a God blessed store, that gets its work done by 6 PM the same day you drop it off and only ever charges you a diagnostic fee as a minimum no matter the time and effort they put into it. They are upfront about thier prices, give estimates, and never bust a deal. Best Buy wanted 199 to do anything, Friendlys place is 29 for the diagnostic. Best Buy wanted 3 days to complete thier work. I never thought Id say it, but Friendlys is where you can get it better, faster, and cheaper. You dont have to pick any two.

My computer went blank a few months ago and I had no idea what was going on. I went online and googled a few computer repair shops in the area and ran across this one. i tried it out because it was close and had so many good reviews. The customer service was awesome! They did a diagnostic on my computer and gave me as many options as possible to get me a working computer ASAP. They gave me a good deal on just purchasing a new computer since actually fixing my problem was going to probably cost me more and wasnt worth it. Until this day any issue I have with my computer, I know I can take it to Friendly and it will be taken care of.

Save yourself time and go to Friendly Computer Services first! Im a retired senior software engineer who had decades worth of personal data backed up when my offline system crashed. Much of my data was in formats that are now obsolete. Nobody else seemed to grasp that fact. The computer vendor and the tech oriented stores I contacted only offered partial solutions. The great guys at Friendly Computer Services not only listened to me; they understood my problem and solved it. All my data is back now on a working system and at a much lower cost than the best partial solution offered.

$30 to diagnose a computer, even if they dont find the problem? Never a good sign. I brought my laptop in for repair since it hadnt been booting up. After about 5 days working on it, the repair guy said that my motherboard was faulty and I should just buy a new laptop. I thought this sounded fishy, so I opened up the laptop myself to take a look. Turns out the Ram card had partially come out of its slot, and popping it back in solved the problem. Thats not a joke. I honestly wonder if they even bothered inspecting it, or just left the it lying there for 5 days. DO NOT COME HERE FOR REPAIRS
