A couple weeks ago i went in to staples to buy water like i always do. I noticed they have an Acer laptop marked down to $349.99 as a close out item. It was in my budget so i tried to get help but they were under staffed. A few days later after i got off work i went over to get some info on it and the young gentleman that was their told me they sold all the new laptops and the floor model is the only one left. I said great so i can get an additional discount and i can save some money. Then i asked how long it was on the floor. He said its been out 5 months... I asked to physically see it but he said its already been refurbished and sealed in the box. I asked what the discount is. He said store policy is now 5% off all floor models. I personally thought that was a ridiculous discount for something i cant see and for something that has been on the floor for basically half a year. I told him i would think about it and come back tomorrow. By the way i work in retail so the only reason im writing this is because this is some of the worst management ive experienced... Now on to my story... I go in the next afternoon and speak to the manager personally to see if i can "atleast" get an extra 5% off which is a total of $17.49 or maybe they could atleast throw in a laptop sleeve which @ cost price is probably less than $10. Hes sitting in a chair on a computer doing something so i ask if he has time to speak to me about something. He said i can get someone to help you with whatever you need. I said i need to speak to you about a floor model product. He said whats your question... (Keep in mind this entire conversation he doesnt make eye contact and seems more distracted on whatever else hes doing than dealing with a my customer needs.) I ask him very nicely that i would appreciate an additional 5% off because of the amount of time it spent on the floor and that it would be a deal breaker for me. Hes the manager so i know he can over ride an extra 5% off. It is not going to make them go out of business or anything but it will make me happy as a customer and i wouldve told all my friends and family about positve experience. He said NO in a very firm manner. I then asked if i can get alteast get a free accessory to go with my laptop since he cant bring the price down... He said if you pay for it. I personally thought that was a rude way of answering my request. I said ok thats fine and left. Heres the twist and conclusion to my story... The next day i went to micro center and best buy in rockville to buy a laptop because at this point i wanted to give someone my business to get back @ staples horrible customer service. I ended up finding a Dell inspiron for $579.99 but it was the last floor model coincedently. I asked to speak to the manager and asked if i can get have an additonal 5% off and it took him 1 second to say sure. Best buys policy is 10% off floor models. So i got 15% off a 2 week old floor model and free 6 month anti virus from them. I know $349.99 was my budget but i was so upset with the way the staples manager treated me that money wasnt an issue anymore and i still came out on top with a better laptop and a better experiece.

is there anything less than a star I can give? WE go to this location, because it the ONLY ONE IN Bethesda. I work at a very prominent corporation down the street. We order the supplies for our office at staples. We ran out of water and I placed an order via our corporate account and added the name of the individual to the pick up. They sent me an email with my name and the pick up person on the email saying all that needed to be brought was the photo ID and the email to pick up the items. He gets to the store and they say he cant pick up the items because for some reason the system doesnt have his name as the alternate pick up and because the system doesnt have his name, the email they sent me moments earlier that lists him as the alternate pick up cant be used. Your joking right?? so he gets back tells me all of this, and so now I have to go and pick up the package myself. I get there and at first speak to an associate who explains the unexplainable and then the manager shows up to further explain the unexplainable I then just say ok let me just get my water or Ill just go somewhere else meaning the rockville location (yay). He says let me see your ID I say its a business its not going to have the same name as my ID. DO YOU KNOW CAPTAIN FOOLISHNESS TOLD ME I COULDNT GET THE WATER BECAUSE IT DIDNT MATCH THE NAME ON THE ORDER?!?!?!?!?! WHAT BUSINESS NAME MATCHES THE NAME ON AND ID. long story short the order was canceled. and if you dont have to DO NOT COME TO THIS STAPLES!!!

I went there on Saturday July 23rd, 2016 to print to 1 colored page. I swiped my credit card and suddenly the machine got jammed. i went to the ONLY technical support guy for printing and he was with another customer. I asked him whether there was something wrong with the machine and the answer was: Maam, the machines is new. It cant be jammed! So of course I feel stupid and I return to the machine that kept being jammed for 15 minutes. another nice guy from the sales comes and I ask him for help as I was desperate to leave at that time and was concerned that the machine now has detected my credit card and any other user can come after me and charge their services to my account that was still jammed! anyway, after many failing trials, the technician comes to help and reboots it and assures me that the job has been canceled. I see today that staples cut 5 USD from my card that day for a business that I never received and for keeping me waiting for over 15 minutes and for making me feel stupid. the worst customer service ever, they took my money and I honesty feel horrible that I ever stepped into that place.

Ive lived a stones throw from this Staples for several years. On the one hand, I think theyre trying really hard to address the negative reviews. The employees seem friendlier and more helpful. The store is clean and well-organized (although it seems like on any given day a third of the demo computers arent working). On the other hand, I think Staples as a corporation is having an uphill battle and it shows here. I balked at this stores price of plain brown document envelopes and walked next door to CVS where they were half the cost. Pretty much everything here is terribly overpriced. I dont think thats the fault of the employees -- I think headquarters has to raise prices to stay afloat as they compete with Amazon. I generally only go here to drop off UPS packages, or if I really need some specific office supplies in a pinch. If its one of the more common office supplies, Ill definitely check CVS first.
