Im most recently from Jersey, having moved to Baltimore over a month ago. Back in Mercer County, I was spoilt for choice with a fantastic health food store—Princeton Whole Earth Center—and a magnificent Whole Foods store also in the Princeton area. The Whole Foods Market in the Mt. Washington neighborhood in Baltimore was quite underwhelming on my first visit. The Bulk Foods section seemed a joke compared to the Princeton store—understocked and overpriced! No coconut flakes, no mixed nuts, no bulk honey, super expensive oats, no quinoa, no sunflower seeds, etc. I make my own granola at home, so this was quite a big disappointment. I will probably end up doing most of my shopping at a local natural foods store once I find one that has everything I need. (Ive checked out The Health Concern in Timonium, and another one in Reistertown, but still not satisfied.) Its funny—I used to think Whole Foods had a standard offering at every location, but I guess they cater to the prevailing market. And I also used to think the Bulk Foods section was the hallmark of Whole Foods—how wrong I was! Interestingly enough, I was able to visit the Whole Foods store in downtown Baltimore (Fleet Street). They had a much better bulk selection (still below par, IMO), but I was pleasantly shocked to discover the dried cranberries there were half the price compared to Mt. Washingtons! Nevertheless, the store on the whole is not bad—the staff are helpful and friendly (Im talking about Mt. Washington, by the way), and everything is organized. There is the most amazing (depending on how you look at it!) Starbucks next door, where you can chill before or after shopping.

There was a mention of a robbery in another review, and more recently, the Starbucks here was robbed at closing by 2 armed thugs who locked the workers inside. Im mentioning this, because it feels like a very safe and upscale area, but ... I like the breads from the bakery, but there are flies and mosquitoes in the cases sometimes. So today I didnt get the bread of course ... a big fly was walking all over the loves of bread in the case. I find it difficult to get to the produce many times because the people in charge of restocking block access to it often, and seem many times to be purposefully doing so ... I mean, they way they do it. This has happened in the milk isle too, and I almost called the guy out on it because he was so belligerent. As a matter of fact, I cant recall ever shopping there when there actually was unimpeded access to produce or the milk isle. One time a saw a customer who was so rude she made the cashier cry. There is actually very little organic produce. Moms Market carries only organic, so its much easier to shop there.

Dirty store, rotten food. I loved the experience of shopping there and the selection of fish, produce and personal-care items, but I kept getting rotten food there: a tub of lettuce that looks fine from the outside but is brown and slimy on the inside, salsa fresca that had begun to ferment, smelly sausages, most recently a block of cheddar that was covered with a film of green mold. Its also worth noting that about a year ago the Baltimore City Health Department closed the store down for several days for an uncontrolled vermin problem. I hate to have to quit shopping there, but its just so wasteful of time or money to buy spoiled food and have to choose between going back to return it or throwing the food away. And "Levas" has a point-- for reasons unknown, the store seems to attract hostile customers. Ive seen parking-space battles devolve into screaming fights more than once! I have no idea what it is about this particular store that attracts the crazies, but it definitely does. Its bizarre.

The customers in this store are dangerous and ill-mannered. Ive had a customer hit me in the heel with her cart so hard that other customers rushed over to see if I was ok. The offending customer just walked off. Ive had customers at check out interfere with me unloading my groceries. Ive seen terrible fights at the check out lane. And finally, I had a woman rubbing up against me who would not stop even though I protested loudly. This is the worst Whole Foods market I have ever been in. The fight at check out occurred right in front of management. Management just stared into space. The next day, one customer told me to watch my purse carefully as there had been a robbery, cop cars all over the place.

Ive lived in the Baltimore area for about 4 years now, I do all my edible shopping at Whole Foods Market (WFM). Ive been to WFMs in VA, DC, MD, NJ, NY, MA, ME. By far this is the smallest WFM Ive seen. Nothing wrong with it but it does lack choice, they have limited organic produce in stock and it runs out quickly and is replaced by conventional produce. The one in downtown Baltimore isnt that big either but bigger than this one. If you want to go to a large WFM with complete variety and options, go to Columbia, might be far for some folks living north of Baltimore but worth the visit for once.

Employees are always kind and helpful, store is full of natural light, and I love the produce department. My biggest complaint is the parking lot, which is a bit too small to accommodate the business this store receives, and the way its laid out seems to confuse less observant drivers. As for the store itself, Ive had something weigh wrong at least once, so make sure to check your receipts as Ive heard this is a problem at some Whole Foods markets. Also, typical of Whole Foods, it feels a little cozy inside and can be difficult to navigate with a regular size cart during peak hours.

While their produce department does not equal a Farmers Market with locally grown produce, it is still better than any other chain grocery store, at least in Baltimore. That includes Wegmans, Giant, Safeway, Fresh Market, Eddies, Grauls, etc. And like any other store, how healthy the selection depends on what you put in your shopping cart. There is certainly less junk food available. Meat and fish is sourced with documentation. Their wild caught fresh fish is very good. Staff are friendly and helpful. Theyre not as great with special orders - they often drop the ball there.

WAHOLEFOODS is a great store to shop for.a variety of.high end organic foods. However, many times I have been in the produce section only to be blocked and ignored by the staff person putting up produce. They ignore you and I have even gotten negative looks from them watch hour prices at the register. My friend.on many occasions has had a price rung up higher then the shelf sticker price. Imagine all the money that is made from these mistakes. Otherwise I still shop there and ignore the downsides.

Whole Foods is certainly not new to the health and wellness space. Their competitors would like you to think that they have had their time. On some level I would have to say WF has blazed the path for an entire industry. But if you think that they have had their time I say false false false. This store is a perfect example of being in the space of a great retail model run by committed personnel passionate about the quality of food we consume. I tip my hat to WF.
