I am so, so, so saddened that I have to give the Bargain Center on Galene Drive ONE STAR. A month ago I would have given it 5 stars. But something has happened. They are under new ownership or leadership and they have raised their prices so much that it makes more sense to shop on eBay, Craigslist, and most antique shops. They are asking $90 for pianos when you can get them for free most other places. Televisions from the 90s will run you $20 whereas before they were free. Books went from $0.10 to $1. Dressers that need major rehab went up from around $30 to $60. Its ridiculous. They have these nice candle sticks on sale for $24.99 each. You might as well go to Target and buy brand new ones for cheaper. I went yesterday hoping that it was just a fluke and almost shed a tear when I asked about these old VideoDiscs (they have easily over 100 of these old things) that they are charging $5 each for. I can go on eBay right now and find way better titles for a lot less. They need to remember that they are a THRIFT STORE - not an antique shop. I have a feeling they will lose a ton of money because of this which is super unfortunate seeing as how they are supposed to be a charity. Im one bummed thrifter. Tanya and Mike - If you read this, I hope you can talk some sense into your new leadership. Otherwise, Im afraid I wont be visiting you all much more :( UPDATE: It is getting a little bit better but they still have a ways to go. I upped my rating from one star to two stars - this is ONLY because of the price. The items they receive are great!

There is a lot of great furniture in this store that is in great shape. The dressers I looked at were made from solid, good wood, not like the pressed garbage wood you find in cheap, assemble-yourself furniture from department stores. However, I wasnt looking for good furniture, I was looking for cheap junk to use for scrap. I did find such an item, which was not only made from cheap wood, but was in horrible, broken condition. One of the drawers - of the few that were still in tact - still had dirty underwear in it. So what was the price you may wonder? It was $19.99, and dont try to haggle because the price isnt going to budge. I went to another thrift store downtown and bought a much better dresser for $1.

They ruined a great store. This place used to be top of our list for thrift stores to visit. Now we took it off the list completely. The prices are insane now and the furniture is so close together you cant see most of it. We used to buy a carload sometimes including three bikes and several pieces of furniture. We walked out last week spending $3! Because nothing was worth buying. I was willing to spend $100-$150 easily but that would buy one item there now. A very stained old couch with a large tear was $90? A plant stand $139.99????? What???? Such a shame. The cashier told us she only had three customers all day. This was on the weekend...

I have been shopping at this location for several years. I have been to both locations but really prefer this location over their Poplar Level store. The Galene store is larger and is VERY WELL organized. There inventory is ever-changing and the prices are reasonable. They also run sales on different areas of the store and this also changes regularly. I always find something when I go there and the money goes to a great cause. This is a great place to pick up furniture, toys, electronics, kitchenware, and housewares. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This is the place to go for general household items!!

We found this place when moving out from CA to Jeffersontown, and needing furniture. We scored we have been there 3 times and bought tons of furniture and other fun stuff and still only invested about $100, including a sleeper sofa, antique desk and tv stand, lamp two chairs, NES games, an old school chalkboard, a computer printer, and more. Go in and look for the bulletin board, some days there is 75% off all furniture, two of the three times weve been there it was, awesome deals, friendly staff... best place for filling at apartment!

I went in here with my nana. She needed a dresser. They only had one, pressed saw dust, with handles missing and the top of the dresser was nicked and scratched. They REFUSED to bring the price down from 70 DOLLARS. This place is nothing but over priced garbage. When I asked the lady at the desk if the price was a set one, she got an attitude and acted as if it was worth 70. I wouldnt pay above 30. THIS PLACE IS GARBAGE. STAY AWAY FROM HERE.

Update 3/22/2016 I agree with Johnpaul McLean. Im going to give them 6 months and try again. Old review This place is consistently one of the best thrift stores i have ever been to. Very few times that ive been there have i not been happy with the things ive found. - I normally shop for books and clothes and kids toys there.
