Customer service is terrible at this store. I went to this store on a Sat afternoon to purchase a firearm. Saw one guy behind the firearms counter, sitting on this desk & staring at his computer screen. I say staring, because it didn’t seem like he was doing a transaction or looking up information for a customer, I think he was just browsing the web. I noticed two other groups of customers checking out firearms for some time & then leaving. At no time did this guy tried to get up or engage these customers if they wanted any help. After waiting for 10-15 min, I go up to the guy & ask him about a firearm I am interested to buy. He response is something like this “it’s in the bottom right side of that shelf”! No attempt to show me the firearm or engage any further. Well I just thanked him & left the store in disgust. He just lost an opportunity to make a sale & the store lost my business. I will buy from a local gun shop with decent customer service, even if I have to pay a slightly higher price. Does Academy pay its employees to sit all day!! If this Academy store manager or their Corporate managers are trying to figure out why their firearm sales are down, well the solution is simple “Improve your customer service/Hire better employees”.

Bait and switch. I went to the Middletown store and picked out a safe, budgeting for the install to stay in my budget. They told me $295. We shook hands, and I paid for the safe. They advised that "Assemblers Inc would call me the next day to schedule. They advised it would be $400. I told them what Academy told me, and they basically said go back to them. I did, they told me to go back to the installer. I had already paid for the safe,, and I needed it, so I ate the extra $100. Then you have to pay for the install ahead of time with a credit card. I did. A guy and his son showed up in a pickup truck. After walking the path it would travel into basement, they unloaded it, got it to the living room and set it down. They advised they now dont feel comfortable going down the stairs, so they left the safe in the living room and left. He said his Boss would call. He never did. No one would return phone calls. It has been 4 days now, and it is still sitting in my living room, and none of the installers will return my calls. I guess my next call is to the Better Business Bureau.

Please, listen to my horror story. We were buying a treadmill, so we were going to put it into a van to take it home. We measured it and it would fit, so we asked a guy to be sure and help us. He acted like a complete jerk and literally gave us the measurements TWO FEET longer that what they were, said it was 200 POUNDS over the actual shipping weight. He acted mean and called this shady company to deliver it for us WITHOUT asking. When we said we could take it, he kept insisting and eventually forced us to use this delivery which will take like 2 weeks. Cant believe these people make you do this stuff.

I am a huge fan of this store. It has been where I have been going for all of my sports related purchases. Everything is relatively cheap, and the staff is extremely nice. I only have one complaint. Just today I came into the store to buy a new pair of shoes. I found a pair I liked and tried them on. As I put them on the security tag unclipped and the needle stabbed into my foot. The pain was almost excruciating. Though I know there was probably nothing the store could have done to prevent this. The terrible memory of me pulling the needle out will forever be engraved in with this store.

Does not make me feel welcome and the staff is very very un helpful they need to be retrained. Prices are higher than normal also. I was walking around the store a couple days ago and just browsing looking at everything and this sales person was following me around the store then he would lean up against the isle I was in. Then I went up to look at the kayaks and he followed me up there and he actually set on the shelf by the kayaks until I left the store this is very ridiculous he never asked if I needed help or anything they wont be in business much longer if this keeps up.

My wife and I was looking a pellet gun and crossbows instead of a sale rep asking If I needed help I was judge by my looks. I had picture being taken of me. I got very uncomfortable so I left the store and then I was followed to my truck and told I was suspected of stealing. I am a very choosy person when it come to by any weapon. Without help of sale rep I was trying to figure out what was best for my needs and then instead of helping judge by my looks. I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT INTO THIS STORE AGAIN.

It has everything you need when you think sports. However customer service was not a strength. I walked through all departments add it was my first time there. One associate asked me of I needed anything. This was after he saw me in two different departments. When I got to the department that I planned on purchasing a Fitbit, the associate did not ask me if I needed anything. I asked help from a passing associate.

Thanks for helping me with a very special birthday present!! Also you can get a lot of other items not pertaining to sports!! Check it out!! Lower prices than any other sporting goods store!! Ive been there many times!! Love it!!

Not a fan, poor selection of in season sorts gear, like bats, cleats etc. Worker explained that I should visit their website if I wanted more than a small selection. If I wanted to shop online, I would not have travelled to the store! Probably also not a great business practice to shunt customers online, mostly because in doing so, Ill find a better price elsewhere.

Not too shabby I went with the thought of purchasing a bike seat cushion And walk a way with my work shoes too had been looking for a new kind of work shoes and long and behold they carrie work shoe too was not expecting that, I asked for assistance and got help in no time, Im sold with Academy Sports a little out of my way but well worth it.

Customer service is terrible!!! I have shopped here several times and have never had a good experience. The prices on shelf are always different at the register. Any time Ive needed to call it takes a ridiculous amount of time to answer the phone and even longer to get an answer to my question. I try to avoid this store at all cost!

Low prices and good service. They say they have a low price guarantee but I have not tried that to see if its true. But they have an excellent selection and hard to find sporting goods. If I bought a pair of Timberland boots today from them for the exact same price that Amazon had them for. To me that is amazing.
