Multiple cars purchased through CarMax, and the last one ruined any future prospects of using CarMax ever again. Had been looking for a 13-14 Ford Shelby GT500 for over 6 months. Particular with color and options. Looking with multiple states and dealerships...found one with CarMax in SCarolina. Kristina sent me pics of it and set up a transfer. Had them ship it here...paid the transfer fee for the transfer driver to mess up the car on loading, to which car max fixed 1 of 3 problems transfer caused. On inspection of the car, noticed bent wheels, a chewed up sidewall on a tire, and damage to the exhaust, among other small annoyances. They fixed the exhaust and small things, after numerous visits, but still had not fixed the wheels or replaced the tire, and explained that they had been inspected and were safe, and it was just cosmetic. After explaining to them that, due to the cost of a car like this, and the fact that I had searched for a long time for one, I was not going to purchase the car with bent rims and that I wanted my transfer money back. They immediately went to a "manager" and came back that they would put it in the "to do" work order to fix or replace the rims in question if I would purchase. Agreed and watched Kristina fill out "to do" paperwork. Brought car back in on agreed time and they replaced 1 of 2 wheels due to that wheel being out of round and wasnt safe. Wait, what?? but the wheels were inspected already and it was just cosmetic, right?? Anyway, fast forward to another back and forth to get the other wheel replaced and was finally told in nice terms to "f off" and prove that they were going to replace them for me to get me to purchase the car....I went home and grabbed out all the sales paperwork, and pulled out the "to do/we owe" paper and surprise, surprise...Kristina had re-written the paper to a new one which was then inserted into the sales paperwork. No longer said to "fix or replace wheels" but that "customer wants wheels checked". So I now am driving a car with a bent wheel, and 1 other wheel of a slightly different color (the one they replaced), not to mention the problems that I have found since owning the car, that the service dept hasnt "heard or found" to get the warranty (yes, I purchased the warranty for a car of this price) to pay for and fix. Taking the car to a ford dealership and having them check everything out...will not even take the car back to CarMax for an oil change at this point.

Found the perfect Kia automobile that I had been searching, online on CarMax website, although in a different state (PA). So on the weekend, i went down to the local store in order to test drive similar model car and to book the one i had found online ( March 1, 2015). Met up with Mr. Butcher at the Wichita store who was extremely helpful in getting my car appraised, fetching the 2 similar model cars at the local store, for me to take out for a test drive, sitting down to set up the transfer for the Kia vehicle that I liked, explained the CarMax extended warranty terms and rates and had me approved with a very low APR financing within the hour. Unfortunately, 3 days later, due to some unforeseen family issue and settlement of estate, I needed to arrange to travel overseas and be gone for a couple of month. The car I had ordered at carmax would have arrived whilst I was gone. So I called the store and spoke with Patrick at the local Wichita Store (since Mr. Butcher was on his day off) and requested to cancel the transfer the car from PA to KS and requested for refund of the transfer fee. Even though I was calling in to cancel an order, I must say that Patrick at the Wichita KS CarMax store and Dave at the King of Prussia, PA CarMax store were extremely cooperative and helpful in setting the cancellation process in motion. I wasn’t thrown on the side of the road, given the run around, etc etc. Simple, Straight and to the point with ZERO hassle. I must say that the staff and the way CarMax handles business is great. Unlike my experience at a Toyota Dealer in town , who refuse to give you the price of the car and instead ask you to name the price and then laughs when you give out a figure or the other Kia dealer on the west side of the town, where you feel pressurized the moment you step in to dealership, CarMax has been a very pleasant experience. When I buy my next car, if I can find it on CarMax, I would definitely buy it from them and would CERTAINLY recommend them anytime.

It all started when we reserved a car to test drive. When we got there no one could find the car. Turns out it was put on a truck for a transfer that was requested hours after our hold request. The manager made it right and offered to bring in another vehicle. We wanted to transfer our tags to save money, that did not happen. Then we were told we would receive a certain amount of refund on our old CarMax protection plan we didnt use and we would receive a refund on out tag that we had just that month paid for. A month went by and nothing. We went in to pick up our new tag and found out that they never cancelled our contract nor did they request the refund, so we are now going to receive less money than we should have if they had done their job correctly. Next, the lady in the financial office said that the "salesman was supposed to give us the tag back so we could turn it in for a refund". He did not. She just continued with the CarMax warranty refund. I asked what was going to happen with the tag and she said they had no idea why we didnt get our tag back, but we were pretty much screwed out of our $400 refund because they didnt have the tag anymore and did not know where it went because our old vehicle was in Oklahoma already. Another thing that bothered me was the appraisal, we were offered more than $4,500 less than Blue Book trade-in value on it, which is just wrong. We have always purchased from CarMax (5 cars), but this may be the last time ever.

We have now purchased two cars from CarMax in the past year, and couldnt be happier with this store. We bought our first car in August after a couple very frustrating days spent at other stores, where we were hassled and condescended to constantly. We were given the opportunity to look without being bothered both times, and there was always friendly assistance available when we decided we had questions to ask. The purchase experience couldnt have been smoother, and people were always helpful and personable. They explained exactly what we were going to pay and on which items and even explained how much interest wed be paying over the life of the loan, which really impressed on me; they were very straightforward they were about ALL of our costs. Car #2 had some hail damage from the night prior to when we bought the car. We took the car home and drove it for a few days before bringing it back at a scheduled time to have the repairs made. Repairs were done within the day, and we were given a loaner car for that time. All repairs (even the repair to an unrelated scratch we found the night we drove it home!) were free. Their service staff was helpful and very professional. We didnt do a trade-in, so I cant speak to that end of the experience. Im not sure how their trade-in offers rate as opposed to others.
