Today June 4, 2011 I went to Petco in Coralville Iowa to purchase cat food. I have repeatedly requested cases of Royal Canin Adult Instinctive to be ordered. I will be told it will be order and available in 3-4 days. When I return there continues to be a very few cans on the shelf, and no ordered cases. Once again, Ill be promised it will be ordered and available in 3-4 days. This has been going on since February when I began introducing my 3 Persian kittens to adult food. I returned today, there were 12 cans on the shelf. I asked if the cases were order and told no. I asked to speak with the manager who identified herself as "Leslie" and refused to provide a last name. She was very rude. She display no concern for the repeated failed promises to make this product available as request/promised, excessive number of trips to the store only to find the product not order and available as promised. She in fact LIED directly to me stating she orders the food and I am at fault for not picking it up. I shared I can order the food online and have it delivered to my door but would prefer to support local business. "Leslie" didnt show any commitment to her local store nor employing company, she simply conveyed she can care less if she follows through on ordering requested products, offends customers or loses revenue for her store/company. Not once did she seem to acknowledge failure to follow through with making her store product unavailable impacts the nutrition of the pet which is suppose to be an area of strong commitment of Petco. This store has repeatedly shown incompetence at customer service in this area without regard I have been a regular customer purchasing $200-300 food at a time from this store when feeding kitten food. I am a pet parent who excessively overindulges my cats. Petco has been a beneficiary of this over indulgence. I have worked harder at keeping myself a customer of this Petco store than this manager attempted in 5 minutes of time. "Leslie" was without concern for business nor pet, let a very good customer leave with a commitment not to return. Additionally, I am a Marketing Billboard for the Coralville Petco and Petco in general. My Marketing Billboard message is: Irresponsible, Poor Communication, Lack of Commitment and follow through, Places Pets at Nutritional Risk by inconsistently making food products available even upon request.

Ive been in retail management for over 15 years. Something Ive learned is that you always hear the bad but never the good. All these bad reviews do not do this store justice. I would encourage you to take them with a grain of salt. People always seem to over react and exaggerate. I really only believe half of what they say. Plus keep in mind, its only the opinion of an upset customer... Heres my two cents about Petco. Been shopping here since they opened in early 2008. They have a staff compromised of some newer employees but they have a solid core of people that have worked for the company for a long time (look at the board in the entry way). This says something. I noticed (like lots of retailers since the recession) that there isnt a lot of employees at any given time working. The store seems to be very busy especially on nights and weekends. I can only imagine that as a specialty retailer, they have to provide lots of extra customer attention to ensure customers get the help they need for their pets. I totally understand this and am willing to wait for help. The employees at store level in a corporation dont make the decisions on what their staffing is like. Believe me, I live that struggle every day! I shop the store at least 2x month on different days and times of day. I always feel welcomed and no one passes by and ignores you like walmart. I always feel like they care about what they are doing there and take pride in their store. I cant say enough about them. I hope this helps someone!

I have been here several times to purchase fish for my aquarium since it is very close to my home, but today was the last time I will purchase anything from them. I waited for a while browsing fish while the employee helped a few other customers. I had no problem with this since these customers were there before me. However, after waiting at least twenty minutes, the employee finished her business with a set of customers, then disappeared; presumably she was going on break or her shift was done. Assuming another employee would come to fill in her spot, I waited another ten minutes. No one came. I became fed up and left the store without buying anything. This is not the first time I have had terrible customer service at this location either, in fact I dont ever remember being helped promptly. I dont necessarily blame the employee for this, she seemed very knowledgeable and friendly, and staff deserve breaks. This place just seems very understaffed. After this I drove to PetLand by the Sycamore Mall and was helped withing seconds of arriving in the aquarium section.

Ive taken my Yorkshire Terrier here about 5 or 6 times for grooming... Ive never ever had issues. She was always done in under 2 hours... and she always looked fantastic. The woman who worked with her always loved her and said her behavior was exceptional. Today I dropped my dog off at 1pm.. was told it would be 3 hours or so. It got to be 5pm and we called the store to have the phone put off the hook... I could hear employees talking about random things with other customers. Finally got ahold of them and went to pick her up.. this lady Ive never seen before gave her back.... and said she looked "silly" because she was biting and misbehaving. My puppy has been scared all evening and flinches when I go to touch her.. her ears have been flat down all night.. Im sick to my stomach. I will never return here and everyone I know or come into contact will know the experience we have had at this "groomer".

The quality and experience of the groomers working at this Petco is VERY low. The first time I took my dog to be groomed at Petco in Coralville, he came back with MATS, his nails had NOT been clipped, and his hair looked as though it had not been trimmed. Unfortunately, I had not been the one to pick-up my dog, so I did not realize how bad the grooming was... until my dog got home. However, the following day I returned to Petco and demanded to know exactly what services they had performed on my dog for $55.00! The groomer that had worked on my dog was not there - but another groomer looked at my dog and agreed that my dog looked like he had NOT been groomed. This groomer then admitted that the person who had groomed my dog was rather "lazy and hasty" in her grooming and wasnt at all surprised by the "crappy" job she had done on my dog!

After many, many times asking that they not shave my Bichons tail and to leave her head hair full and round, I gave up on their hair cutting skills. They cannot tell a Bichon from a Poodle. They even shaved her face! So last time I asked for a shampoo only and asked that they NOT CUT any of her hair. They refused. They claimed her tail was matted. It was not. I canceled the appointment, took her home and did the shampoo myself, She combed right out -- no tangles, no mats. They cannot distinguish a curly coat from a matted one. A friend who has a Yorkie/Shih Tzu mix was shocked to have her dog returned with his lovely bushy eyebrows and mustache totally gone! It has taken many months for them to grow out. These groomers have no concept of following the customers wishes. They do not seem to know breed standards either.
