Honestly I would not give our experience or the work done 1 star, but you cant post a review without at least one. I had my toy poodle groomed there today and was not happy at all. She had a 9 am appointment, of which i was told she would be done by 1, which is normal for grooming at a store. However I received a call around 12:50 from the groomer saying my 3 lb dog would not be done and it would be a while longer. Since I was not provided a possible estimate on how much longer around 1:30 I stopped in asked about much more time would be needed. My arrival in the store was met with some apprehension, but after letting the groomer say what she needed, I was able to finally ask again, how much longer would be needed. When I arrived my dog was getting her fur cut, which having seen it done previously would not have concerned, but this time things were different. What concerned me is after a year of grooming, having changed groomers 3 times she was not showing behaviors that were what I concerned to be normal. She was snatching away, jumping and looked terrified. At that time I I tried to dismiss it as well ignore the fact that my dog was still not done at that time. The groomer told me it would be another 30 mins, that its taking longer because my dog keeps jumping, again I witnessed the behavior and mentioned to the staff that what she was doing was not common and a concern, but I would await the call that she is done. For me and in my past experiences with Petco in Iowa City, and Petsmart in Illinois and Texas, if I am receiving a call that grooming is complete, everything is done including nails being dry. At 2:22 I received a call being told she done and my son went in to get her. He was told her nails were still wet an issue for me obviously so. When he brought her out she still had fur coming off her from the trim as well, her nails were poorly as well as a few other things that could have been handled better. When I called back to make my concerns aware to the manager, I was met with disdain and excuses. I was told the groomer was new, which we have experienced before, but previously there was oversight of the work, for a 3lb dog a new groomer should have been coached and assisted more. In an attempt to express my concern I was also spoken over, cut off and placated. So rather than being able to express constructive feedback and offer suggestions of improvement, I was left feeling disrespected and spoken to in such a nonchalant and un-empathetic manner that I needed to escalate to the next in command having had the grooming manager behave in that way and be dismissive of my lack of satisfaction of what I paid for I am thankful the conversation was over the phone. After a brief hold, I was left to speak with the person over her, the inventory manager, post this review as well as reach out to corporate because the manager of the grooming department lacks a customer service focus, she obviously did not properly oversee a new groomers work (I wish i could post a few of the pictures showing how her nails were polished, how it seems like her ears were not blow dried or brushed and on one ear there is a ball of knotted fur). I also noticed once we were home that my dog was favoring her right front leg and paw so Im more concerned and will have to watch her. If you have a small dog, I would not recommend going to Petco for grooming. The level of detail that is needed for smaller animals, even with someone new, does not seem to exist at that location and I hope that the general manager coaches the grooming manager as well as have her go back through customer service training, training for communicating with the public and training for developing staff (hopefully they have it). I hope that the new groomer receives more coaching and oversight of her work she she improves over time and is better able to work with small dogs.

Upon entering the store, which had opened 10 minutes before we had gotten there, we walked around the store at stopped to look at the fish. All of the employees were standing around the fish tanks speaking quite loudly at each other and talking about how they were going to beat each other up off store grounds after work. I realized after a short time that they were joking about it, but it made them look VERY unprofessional, childish, and quite foolish. They were all just goofing off and not getting any work done. We had gone to Petco for a specific item during this trip. We located the area of the store where the item was but quickly realized they didnt have the size of the item we needed. My dog was having surgery that morning and we were looking to purchase a "comfy cone" or something similar to it. They had every size except for the XL size that we needed, the spot on the shelf for it was empty. I went up front to ask someone to check in back for the size we needed. The girl at the check out was obviously new so she called one of the ladies up from the group of employees that was messing around near the fish tanks as I had mentioned earlier. When I asked her if there were any in back, she proceeded to tell me that yeah there probably was but they would be on a pallet wrapped in plastic wrap and she didnt want to open it right now and that she probably wouldnt get to it until the next day. I told her that it was an item that I needed right away as my dog was in surgery. She repeated that she didnt want to open it at the moment and that she wouldnt get to it until the next day. Unfortunately, Petco was the only place in Cedar Rapids/Marion that I could find that sold that product in store. We ended up ordering the Comfy Cone on Amazon and will no longer be doing business with Petco because of the unprofessional and quite frankly lazy attitude of the employees.

I was hoping to stay loyal to petco but after having problems numerous problems with them not having what I needed in Stock I had to go to pet smart. Now I wonder why I didnt do it sooner! My problems started with a brand of cat food that I liked buying in bulk as I live across town and prefer to make fewer trips there. One day it had been recalled they told me. So I got the smaller bag which is less of a deal but I thought its just one time... Then I came back when the cats ran out of food. Again, Recalled but they went ahead and fixed the price to reflect the discount that I would get with the Larger bag. When the cats finished that I went back again, but this time they told me the company no longer made the bulk bags. So I ended up switching to a brand that did. Then I bought 2 liter boxes. It came in a set of all the box needed, urine pads liter etc... I cant even tell you how many times I went to get refills of liter or pads or both and they were out of stock 95% of the time. They always had the liter box set in Stock though. I even talked to the store manager about making sure they carry more. After that conversation about a month later I went back for pads and liter, again not in Stock. I spoke to a woman and explained I was completely out of pads and needed them. She grabbed a paper and began writing the product code on it. Then she handed it to me and said write your name and number and we will call you when we have it. I explained yet again I needed it right away. That I was completely out. She said follow me and started to take me to the stock room to show me how overwhelmed they were with stock. That was my last straw. Very unprofessional!
