This is the best and coziest shop you will find in Indianapolis. Seriously, I challenge you to find a place with better atmosphere. This store is part of the nonprofit Indy Reads, which offers literacy programs for adults in the city. Nearly all of the stock is donated, and most of the staff are volunteers. At the same time, there are quite a few new books and some great sections to peruse (I recommend the cult classics and the rare books in the back of the shop). The store also doubles as a sort of community space. They host a number of free events throughout the week, both book-related and not. If you are looking for a quiet place to sip coffee and turn some pages, check out the reading nooks in the back of the store. You will not be disappointed! Support a great cause by visiting a great shop.

This is the kind of place that reminds you why you love reading so much. Cozy, eclectic atmosphere, friendly staff (many of whom are volunteers), a constantly changing selection of new and used books, and it all goes towards supporting literacy in Indiana. Plus theres free parking, almost unheard-of on Mass Ave. Its not the best option if youre looking for a very specific book, but if youre the type of person who likes to browse until you find your new favorite read via serendipity, this is the place to do it. Youll almost certainly walk out with both a book and a smile.

Indy Reads is a not-for-profit bookstore maintained by four hard working staff members and a dedicated volunteer force. Their selection focuses on local and diverse authors, especially the LGBTQ+ community, in a way you dont see in chain bookstores like Half Price Books or Barnes & Noble. They keep a large selection, but if they cant locate your request, staff can order them for no additional price. Great service, fantastic selection, and affordable prices. Even new books come discounted!

This was my first time going to a non-chain bookstore and it was great! The atmosphere was very bookish, the place was nice and clean, and the displays were interesting. It had a very "come sit down and read or play some chess or do some homework" feel to it, which I loved. Wish I had one of these close to my house!!

This place is great. The selection is nice, the staff are both helpful and informative, and the arrangements and displays will lead you to good titles. Obviously the social responsibility qualities of this bookstore make it doubly important to shop here, with the added bonus thats just a great store in general.

Book Love with a Purpose. Indy Reads Books allows every bibliophile a place to find used (some new) quality books at a great price, while supporting an outstanding nonprofit and its mission. Combined with great literary and education events, Indy Reads Books is a phenomenal and unique local book store.

This is the best bookstore in Indianapolis. Hands down. From brand new to well-worn books, local writers to household authors, Indy Reads Books has (or will order) anything you could want. The store hosts many book releases and readings. Plus, the profits support adult literacy programs in the city.

Best bookstore to find all kinds of books and if they dont have the book you want you can order it right there. It is a great place to sit and read and enjoy some quiet time surrounded by great atmosphere, plus, by buying your used or new books at Indy Reads we all support a great cause!

Great staff and a great cause. All proceeds are donated to a literacy program. The staff is happy to share their mission. They accept donations so please consider them when clearing out space and have knowledge and stories to pass along!!

What a gem! I look forward to coming here. Sit in a comfy chair, read and listen to live music or readings. Dont leave without a few books to read at home, bring them back, repeat. Children friendly and their books are one dollar.

Very cool little spot, and much less expensive than I thought it would be going in for the first time. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and an eclectic collection add up to a stop well worth taking on your trip to Indy.

Customer service success story- I called 6 minutes before close and asked for 25 separate gift cards in $20 increments. Victoria was AMAZING and willing to assist and stay after closing time to help. Very very cool!
