EVERYONE PLEASE READ THIS: With the awful experience I dont know where to begin. Honestly, I cant even give this place a one star rating because it doesnt deserve that even. The shop itself was fine. The puppies were cute and the other animals were as well. But the STAFF was horrendous and beyond unprofessional. The way that they treated the animals they were selling and the customers was absolutely unacceptable and I refuse to buy any animal from here because of that. I will not fund uneducated and poor behavior. The person we had helping us was SUPER pushy and was trying to get us to buy a dog desperately. We asked to visit with one dog and she gave us the dog. I asked her how much the dog was because I was curious. Then she started explaining everything that would be included with buying the dog, which took a LONG time to explain, then when she got to the end of her lecture she told us the price, and then asked if we wanted to buy dog. VERY PUSHY BEHAVIOR. We never said we wanted to buy the dog?? We never said we were even looking for a dog?? We just asked to play with the dog and then I asked what the price was. She started to get annoyed with us because we kept seeing different dogs and we werent deciding on one. Her behavior turned into something I could NOT stand. Oh! Her name was Angela so if you ever go there beware! Another employee with blonde hair and blue eyes, I should have caught her name. I saw a customer walk up to her and complain to her. I got closer to listen in. The employee (blonde hair blue eyes) had the dog on its back and was forcing it to be on its back. The dog was yelping and crying because it didnt like being forced on its back. The customer was telling the employee that she shouldnt be holding the dog down like that and it was disturbing to hear the dog yelping/crying. The employee said "Well, Im training this dog. This is how I train the dog." The customer got upset and said "I had that exact dog breed from the day it was a baby till the day it died. Holding a dog down on its back and making it yelp/cry is not the way to train a dog especially one like this. This dog just has a hyper personality and theres a proper way to train a dog and that is NOT it." The employee-stopped holding/forcing the dog to be on its back which was relieving because I too felt bad for the dog as well. The employees at this location are very uneducated, unintelligent, pushy, persistent, and unpleasant. I WOULD NOT buy from this Petland location. Employees who treat treat their customers and animals terribly do not deserve to be rewarded by money.

I know that there are many complaints about this place but personally I know that many of those complaints are misconceptions. As I know the puppies do come from a puppy mill and because of the fact that the store isnt huge and expansive it can cause the dogs to be prone to more illness. and everyone should know that the WHOLE REASON why the employees may seem pushy because they have so many costumers a day that come everyday without buying anything and playing with a dog for up to 30mins or more (when they have like 30 people in there every hour) its a huge waste of time for those who are actually looking into buying the dogs. When I asked a lady for help, she knew extensive knowledge on what was the best for my pet bird. I currently own two very heathy happy dogs from here. One is 7years old, she is a papillon and I have a 5 month old husky. When writing a review more people should take into consideration that they hold animals on a unbelievably high standard, thats not bad, but these unreasonable high standards cause you to act out on the littlest of things. On a review further down there was a statement about the crying puppy on its back, I believe that was me and my dog that she was talking about. If the lady that made the negative review, would have done some research she would have known that the employee was demonstrating a technique about overcoming a puppys dominance over the the owner. This method works effectively for hyper dogs that think they are the boss or just any behavioral problem. I have only one complaint about this place which is I would have liked to see more wood chew toys for the small mammals and the birds, but other than that I love the wide selection and I especially love the set up of the store. I hope this store continues to get better and stays amazing. ~written by an animal lover

My experience at Petland was great the first time I came in. A big welcome, and playing with the dogs. So when I decided I liked this German shepherd the first time of course they talk for 10 minutes straight about all the bullshit and financing which is worse than taking a loan out from the bank. First of all they told us the dog was 2000 I believe. If not more, so when the worker walked away to try to sweet talk other people I start looking through the finance book and see if the dog is 2000 youll end up paying like 2600. And you guys have reviews on here about "adopting"!? I went in there numerous times and seen numerous dogs that I wouldve loved to "adopt" but I never heard of an adoption fee of $2000. Then another time I went in with my wife one day about 9 months later thinking things were changed. So of course she wants a little teddy bear dog. We play with it for a little while and I actually agreed to getting it, until of course AGAIN they say the same finance bs. The dog was $1500 but Im guessing if you finance itll be 18-1900 easily. They should really lower their prices cause thats just unbelievable. And to think before you even go there for your first time youll call them and ask for a certain dog and ask the price they wont even tell you over the phone lol. Im just done even trying at Petland overall, yeah theyre all separately owned but its all the same if you go into another one. Nothing is different. Maybe one day theyll change.

!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT BUY FROM PETLAND!!!!!!! Stay away from this petland location. Buy straight from a breeder if you can. Do some research before buying a breeder too, our labrador retriever came from a breeder here in Illinois and is recognized as one of the worst breeders in the country. I financed my puppy here. They sell dogs that come with major health issues. My dog was home for two days before he developed kennel cough then that developed into pneumonia. Its almost like petland knows that this will happen because when you finance your pet petland covers the medical bill within the first few months of ownership! I was reassured many times before going home with my pet that they (petland) would cover medical costs... WEIRD!!!!! They will only pay for one vet which is out in spring Grove. My little guy was hospitalized for 4 days and put on 5 different medications. I am very thankful he survived. Since he had severe pneumonia, it stunted his growth. Reading all the reviews from this place, it seems to be the common theme.!!!!!!!!!DO NOT BUY FROM PETLAND!!!!! I feel bad for the others customers with similar problems. This place needs to be SUED TIL THEY ARE OUT OF BUSINESS. THEY SELL PUPPIES FROM PUPPY MILLS!!! go there, find a puppy you like and ask to see the breeder information, Google the name of the breeder and you will see.
