I went to Ace Hardware in New Lenox IL to buy a tow chain or strong nylon strap. I bought the nylon toe strap with a weight limit of 8500 lbs so I can pull a 97 Camaro RS which was 3400lbs which is only half of the weight limit. Well the strap broke, so I bought a thick tow chain from some where else (which I should of done in the first place). So few days later I go back to Ace to return the strap and asked for refund. The said all they can do is give me a new one, I said I wanted a refund because why would I want a new one if the first one snapped. To my surprise the sales guy goes it looks like its been cut. To accuse me of cutting it, it was ridiculous! Then he tells me that it could be because I looped the hook over the strap and that was why it snapped. The salesman and the owner where trying so hard to come up a reason not to refund this strap. It was like they were forensic scientist coming up with all their theories on how this strap broke, it was ridiculous. Then the owner calls the police on me and my wife.They show up and tell us its a civil matter, then the female owner says that she isnt even going to give me a new one. She did that thinking Id get mad in front of the police, well it didnt work. I calmly picked up my broken strap and left. When I left I was in shock on what just happened. Your taking a chance of getting arrested when you return something there! Save your money and go somewhere else like LOWES, MENARDS, OR HOME DEPOT and no worrying about getting a refund.

Worst ACE experience. I usually go to manhattan location and the customer service there is so much better, and will always go there in the future. I went in for a couple items, and had a question regarding the carpet cleaner rental. I asked if we had to buy the shampoo separate, old man at the register says "well, yea. if you want your carpets clean." I thought he was trying to be funny, I was waiting for him to smile or laugh but he just stared at me. I said, " well I didnt know if some came with the rental or not." And he said "no" with major attitude and lifted his eyebrows at me. He stared at me until I walked out. so rude!

Working at a small business myself, I always appreciate good management and friendly people. I applied to work here last year. I was told by the owner, Gary, that my manager position would pay $15/hr only to find out that I was "starting out" at cashier making minimum wage. The owner is a huge jerk who talks down to his employees (calling his employees stupid and constantly making jokes that really werent funny after the 5th time), I dont recommend shopping here and I DEFINITELY dont recommend working here. There is literally ALWAYS a "Help Wanted" sign in the window and now I know why.

This ace is stocked like most others Ive been to in the Chicagoland area. The staff however, are really helpful and courteous. I do go here rather than big box places when I can. Why? Yeah, it may be a little more, but Id rather walk out with the right part from someone who isnt just a retail worker, but someone who could offer sound advice.

They treat their employees like dirt and have absolutely NO HEAT ON DURING THE WINTER, while their sales people have to stand next to the door,... Wonder why the turnover rate is almost weekly there ( not exaggerating )
