A few years ago I bought a fixer-upper house in Glen Ellyn. Since then I have been going to this Menards at least once a month. I am an extremely handy person and have handled almost all the repairs to my house by myself. I have found that not only are many of the employees here less knowledgeable about the departments they work in then than I am but they are often rude. Last night my mother came with me and she asked an employee for help finding an item. The lady walked up to someone else and said I am taking 10. She started walking away and my mother and I were unsure if we were meant to follow or not. We did follow and she did take us to the correct aisle. This employee proceeded to mock my mother, sarcastically explaining how the store had this bright idea to label their aisles so that people could just read the items rather than having to ask. After we explained what we were looking for she rudely just stated "No" with a smile on her face, leaving us standing their awkwardly. When I continued clarifying what it is we were looking for she said what you want "is not called a bit, its a (some other term I already forgot)" talking down to us like I have no clue what I am talking about and am about 5 years old. And when she did help us find what we were looking for it was clearly labeled BIT! When my mother pointed out that it said "bit" right there on it the lady got defensive and started rambling. I then had to several times thank the lady and tell her we could take it from her but at this point she refused to leave us alone and I had to actually just walk away from her and come back once she was gone to find what I was looking for by myself. I had never been treated with such rudeness before and this is a store that I probably have spent at least $10,000 a year for the last three years. In hard times like these when so many people are out of jobs, I cannot believe that a company like Menards that I used to really enjoy visiting has taken to hiring such under qualified unpleasant staff.

I purchased a lawn mower brought it home set it up put gasoline in it then realized it was not working properly. The tires would not turn which was something i did not assemble it came assembled. Called remington the manufacture and they stated it was a defected lawn mower to take it back to menards. the store manager was very rude would not directly talk to me was talking to his employees about what i should do when i was right in front of him. What he was telling them is i had filled the lawn mower with gasoline so could not return nor exchange the mower. He said i had to take it to a service center. I argued it and he circled my receipt and walked away. i called the service center and they wouldnt see my lawn mower until six weeks out. Mind you i had just bought my house could not afford buying a new lawn mower and had long grass that i could not trim because of this issue. I was in tears calling Menards in Hanover Park where the general manager told me i probably didnt assemble it properly or i had broken it. mind u the lawn mower came assembled. I was crying and so my husband was furious he grabbed his tool box took the machine apart and made repairs to get it to work. I filed a complaint with menards corporate and have been asking Ray to help me get a store credit and apology from the manager and he keeps repeating himself. The credit that i am requesting is for the distraught this caused and because in the mist of everything i lost my receipt and missed a 11% rebate equaling $37.00 and he said no because of menards already low prices. I feel cheated because they sold me a lawn mower at regular price that my husband fixed so isnt that refurbished and on top of everything feel like menards has been very ruse through this whole process. To add to this i also bought a shower head last month and it also was defected i contacted the manufacturing company and got a new one so does menards just sell defected products really thinking of going to home depot from now on.

Had a broken fence picket, went in to buy a replacement. Service was good the first time I went in, though they did not have the piece I needed. The employee I was working with offered to special order it and I accepted. For days later I received a confirmation email stating my part had arrived. After work I made the drive over to the store to pick up my item. This is where things went wrong. 1.) Directed to three different places to pick up the item. 2.) After arriving at the correct pickup location, my part had been lost. The manager at the special order pickup is great. Friendly, apologetic for the inconvenience. 3.) After spending an hour helping them look my part is nowhere to be found. Im directed back to the front of the store to order a replacement. 4.) I tried politely request compensation (partial refund) for the time/gas/till money that was wasted due to an error Menards had made and the store manager looked at me like I was ridiculous, and told me tough luck. After picking up the part Ive paid for and cant have reduced I will never be shopping at Menards again from the disrespect I experienced on this visit.

The service on the sales floor was great but at the checkout it was not the same. We were doing an exchange which was slightly difficult but the two girls who were helping us checkout were unprofessional and not friendly at all. Brittany, supposedly a manager, was constantly rolling her eyes and flirting with the guy who helps people being their purchases to their cars. Theres a time and place for that, and in front of customers is not it. And the girl Addy who rang us up was very sloppy and was chewing gum and pulling it out with her fingers... but she was sincere and friendly. But the manager Brittany should learn how to speak to customers. She was answering questions very rudely and with an attitude. She does not seem like manager material. We were not rude to her by any means so this was very uncalled for and confusing.

Costumer service is the worst! I needed help tracking a rebate, after walking back & fourth about 5x from customer service to the rebate counter & listening to the staff @ the costumer service counter complain that the staff @ the rebate counter was lazy & the staff @ the rebate counter calling the staff @ the CS counter stupid I finally got a manager to tell me I could track my rebate online. When I asked if I could do it by logging into the Menards website, she rudely said "well you wont be able to do it by logging into the home depot website. Im only going to Home Depot from here on out. Thanks 4 treating me like a piece of crap Menards, Ill never forget it.

On an average I spend $500 each week at Menards and what I find is a lack of safety for customers. When I buy lumber, staples from a packing cover are left with one leg of the staple pointing out and I have been cut a number of times pulling lumber off a shelf. I have complained but no changes have ever been made. The other thing is poor quality lumber that no one will buy left on the shelves or on stacks of plywood. Come on guys, have some pride for what you sell, I dont thing the store manager walks his store.
