I am very disappointed with my experience at Walter E. Smith. I went in an it was my first time there and first time purchasing furniture for my new place. I ordered some couches with the help of a designer there and although he was very kind, he failed to notify me about a NO REFUND policy nor did he give me an invoice for my purchase. The designer never went over sizes nor did he ask me about measurements. He simply sold me couches and I paid 1,550.00 and told me he would email me an invoice and he never did. I had to wait 4 to 6 weeks for delivery and when the delivery truck came, they told me that they couldnt deliver me those couches because they didnt fit through any of my doors and asked me if my designer had gone over measurements with me. i said no. Then I was told that I was NOT able to get a refund and I HAD TO pick a different couch from them since they have a NO REFUND policy. I told them OI didnt want any other couches from them and I just wanted my refund, the couches are not in my place and they have refused to give me my 1550.00 dlls back after I have made several calls to the store, managers, and refund dept. They dont want to give me my money back and insist that I just pick a diff couch. Due to the bad customer service I received by one of their associates in their cancellation dept I no longer wanted to work with this furniture store . its been weeks and still I dont have any couches NOT my money back. I keep calling and keep getting the run around. I and to file a dispute with my bank. The employee failed to give a receipt and I was never told there had a no refund policy before they took my 1,550.00 dlls that I worked so hard for. This was a terrible experience and I wouldnt NOT recommend them to anyone. They know I dont want anything from their store and yet I basically got scammed out of my money unless I purchase something else I dont want from them.

Went into the Orland Park location to purchase a living room set. To my surprise, they had a beautiful sectional which was within my price range. My sales person, Lynnea(sp) was patient and detailed. She gave me a quote in writing and I promised to be back within 2 days with my significant other to finalize the sale. Unfortunately, I lost a close relative the next day and was not able to make it into the store as I had promised. Lynnea informed me that the sale had been extended for another 2 weeks and that my price quote was still good. She called me on the last day of the sale to inform me that they were taking an additional 5% off if I would make a down payment that day. I agreed, but was disappointed when Lynnea quoted me a higher price than originally agreed upon. She informed me that the manager would not honor the original quote because she misquoted the fabric quality. However if I accepted the set as presented on the sales-floor, then they would honor the lower fabric pricing. I informed Lynnea that the price quote was based on the particular pieces I wanted to construct the sectional and that I was unwilling to settle for less. She completely understood and was somewhat sympathetic. However, needless to say that I was very disappointed that a store such as Walter E. Smithe would be unwilling to honor a price quote which was given in writing due to the mistake of their salesperson. This is definitely an example of poor customer service on behalf of the management team at Walter E. Smithe.

I am pretty disappointed in this business. After spending $4800 and waiting 9 weeks the couches were delivered with strange scuffs across every cushion. They considered it a warranty issue and told me someone would be out to repair it and gave me a window between 1 and 4 on a weekday. The guy shows up and takes more pictures, doesnt do any repair. So I took an afternoon off of work for nothing and am still waiting for someone to come out for the repair. While waiting for this issue to be resolved I discovered one small cushion had already separated at the seams at the zipper. Two issues and the couches arent even a week old. Their response is theyve been in business for 60 years and have a great warranty and here I am still waiting on someone to fix my week old couches. If you are going to spend a lot on furniture I recommend shopping elsewhere. They may tout a great warranty but I already have a sour taste in my mouth and its been a week with no resolution. Walter Smithe has wasted both my time and money. Think of how many people will hear about my negative experience with Walter Smithe during the lifetime of these couches? UPDATE: My review received the attention I intended and Mark Smithe personally called (multiple times) to ensure my poor experience was remedied. I am pleased he was prompt and thorough- ensuring the pillows were fixed. He also extended a partial refund. For these reasons I have increased my rating, I hope they use this situation to improve the initial customer experience.

Beyond elated! Recently after moving back to the area after a relocation gone awry, we needed to furnish a new townhouse. It was a very eclectic time for us, trying to marry old furniture, antique furniture, and new purchases. We visited Walter E. Smithe in their Glendale Heights location to look around and had the great fortune to meet Bill Montbriand, one of their talented designers. Bill was a great listener as to exactly what our needs were and he even came to the house to get an idea of what our "taste" was that we were trying to achieve. We have been working with Bill for about a year now and making our dream home piece by piece; all the while Bill having a pulse on exactly what we were looking for. We re-upholstered a previous W.E.S. sectional couch, purchased bedroom furniture, entertainment pieces, etc. The long lasting quality of the Walter E. Smith furniture cannot be beat and we really enjoy their timeless styles. When we think of adding to our collection its so fabulous to know we only have one place to turn. If they dont have what you are looking for in stock or on the floor, their talented designers will move mountains to find exactly what you need and make you very happy while minding your price points.

I never actually bought a piece from them but my roommate did. I used their services to have a side table refinished because I had spilled nail polish remover on it. The customer service was outstanding. When I called in to speak to someone about the service they connected me Doris Marziani who was very responsive. She was willing to work with me on the drop off and pick up options and got me a quote for the job quickly. We did most of our communicating via email and I never had to wait longer than a day for her to get back to me. The table was sent out to the work shop in Itaca. All I had to do was drop it off at the Lincoln Park store and pick it up at no cost. The actual work cost me $100 which is cheap compared to some of the other places I priced and the table looks like new. You would never have know any thing happened to it. The job its self took a little longer than expected, but I know they are busy as their pieces are customized so I had no problem with the wait. It took about 15 days or so which is a very reasonable amount of time in my opinion. Over all, I had a wonderful experience with them and would most definitely seek their services in the future and recommend others. I hope this was helpful.
