I left my bike here on 7/11 for a tune up. They told me it usually takes a couple days to do a full tune-up, which is what I requested. Two days later they hadnt even started on the bike. I waited all day Friday for them to finish and was thrilled to get my bike back just before the weekend. I paid $160 for the full tune up. New Brake Pads, New Tires, New Grips. When I rode my bike to work the following Monday I got to my first traffic stop just barely into my ride when I hear an awful grinding sound. One of the rear brake pads then snapped completely off, brace and all. Surprising yes, but no big deal! I still had the front tire to brake with. Rode to work, locked my bike up outside, came back out a few hours later during lunch to find that the front tire was now totally flat. :( I couldnt even ride the bike across the street to the nearest repair shop it was in such bad shape. Feeling jaded, I walked my bike to "The Bike and Roll" across the street from where I work. Talking with the mechanic there for five minutes illustrated to me what a massive mistake Id made choosing "The Bike Lane". He noticed that the REAR tire also had a huge bubble in it, indicating that it was probably installed incorrectly. Without hesitation he also pointed out that the brake cables were bent and the action on the brake-handle was grinding. This guy was too nice to "throw anyone under the bus" but I could tell what he was indicating; Shoddy Workmanship. The friendly PBR and Tattoo enthusiasts posing as mechanics at "The Bike Lane" are either too busy to do a good job, or know so little about bicycles that they think charging $160 for a barely half-assed tune-up is fair play. I will never do business here again, not even for the refunded repair Im entitled to. Why should I trust them? They had one job and they royally blew this one.

Took my bike here because I was having problems with my back wheel and chain. They quickly fixed those problems, and mentioned that my rear brakes should get a new cable. Now, a little background, I had recently taken this very same bike to a small local bike shop here in town with a few locations. They told me that my brakes were "just old" and there was nothing they could do for them besides adjusting the pads (and charging me $16). Right... So, I had it in my head that Id just have to suffer through my terrible brakes. Anyway, I agreed to let The Bike Lane put new brake cables on. What a difference! The mechanic there said I would notice a "marked improvement". Well, thats quite the understatement. They went ahead and re-cabled both the front and rear brakes without charging me more than they estimated previously. Its like a different bike. I couldnt be more excited to find a bike shop I trust. Highly recommended.

i went in today with my boyfriend who is looking to learn more about bikes and hopefully buy one soon. and i was hoping to buy some new toe clips and maybe handle bars. every thing was Fairly priced and they had a lot of nice stuff in the store. but i guess we didnt look nice enough to great or talk to at all when we went into the store, because we were completely ignored. and when i tried to say hi i must have had some thing wrong with me because i was again completely ignored. TREATED! for sure, and i guess im not part of the bike lane club... id rather pay more then be treated as if im not "whatever" enough to be talked to... we were the only other people in the store as well so i dont think they just didnt know... thanks bike lane. reminds we why id rather go to smart bike around the corner!

There are a lot of really good bike shops in Chicago, but this place always seems to stand out from the rest of them. Im a bit more of advanced when it comes to doing my own bicycle work - I rebuilt my own bike this winter - but still needed parts and had questions. Not only do these guys seem to always have the parts I needed when others didnt, but theyve always been nice about answering questions and have a few times used special disassembly tools on my stuff without charging extra. Id recommend this shop to anyone. Oh, and they have good prices on tubes!

The guys at the bike lane have been amazing, I started coming here last summer with my less than perfect bike. My work require me on my bike which means I need constant repairs and looking for ways to improve my ride. After an accident I needed to built a new one and they are always very helpful and honest. This is my primary store, a one of a kind place for me, Im usually quite inpatient and like instant gratification, but placing orders and waiting until Tuesdays makes me feel better than going to surrounding LBSs with sub-par service. Thanks guys!

Theyve always been polite and honest. If they suddenly become busy and its gonna be 30 minutes or longer to get your bike serviced, then theyre gonna tell you just that. They dont try to upsell parts or repairs, and they dont complain or make fun of my old bike or all the janky contrivances Ive attached to it. The main reason Im giving a shout out though, is they were able to fix a problem my bike has had for ages, and two other reputable shops were not able to fix it properly. Thanks, guys!

I recently happened upon this place when I was near the Congress Theater (its right across the street) and I was blown away by the service they provide. Not only are they open late and really knowledgeable, but theyre friendly and passionate, and even offer a service to come out to you and fix your flat tire. I dont think Ive ever seen that at a bike shop before. Will definitely return here soon, but not until I have some money saved up to buy all the awesome stuff I saw when I was there!

This shop is excellent! Took my Kona Rove AL for a tune up. The mechanic recommended changing the chain, but said it would last the rest of the season. I went ahead and had it done since the price was right. Also, the bike had a dragging rear break and the derailer was wonky and wouldnt shift into certain gears. All fixed now. I took it on a test ride down to and around the lake with ZERO failures. I highly recommend them if you need any work done on your ride.

So I walked in to put some air in my tire, and like a complete klutz, I knock off a plastic price thingie off the shelf on the wall and it shatters. oops. I was real embarassed and wanted to fix it, but they didnt make me feel uncomfortable about it and just smiled it off and cleaned it up for me. So, unpretentious I guess was the vibe that was put out there. Didnt need to buy anything that time, but of course Ill be back. Got to appreciate good people.

I travel a lot and have been to many bike shops. This is by far one of the best Ive ever been to. Staff was very friendly, helpful and not pushy or snobby at all! I asked a few questions and got straight forward, no BS answers. If every bike shop was like this one there would be a lot more cyclists! Definitely worth going out of your way to come here. Finally, the shop is on a street with a bike lane (makes sense, huh?)
