Awful customer service. Rude old man with white hair managed to be rude to two sets of customers during my brief visit. I have just moved to the area and wanted to find a book store to become my regular literary haven. I entered the store while my husband looked in the window. No hello from the moody old man, no eye contact. Nothing. When my husband came in to see me, he was told to hand over his bag of shopping from the previous store. The old man behind the counter demanded this in a harsh tone of voice. As we felt uncomfortable in this persons mistrust and rudeness (we are well dressed professionals, my husband is a doctor and doesnt look like a thief), we left the shop. Not before having to wait at the counter until the rude old man decided to give my husband his shopping back, without eye contact, and without a word. Once my husband had received his bag, and we were proceeding to leave, we overheard two polite young ladies ask the same man if they bought used books, to which he snapped in response I will look at them (with a shrug). He said this in an unwelcoming and frankly childish manner. Never again. Please avoid.

This place has horrible customer service! I spoke politely to the older white gentleman an he barely opened his book. His demeanor was rude and curt! I paid for my items by handing the gentleman a 20$. He made change and sat it on the counter like I was NOTHING! OF COURSE HE DIDNT SAY, have a nice day, or even, Thank you! HE turned his back as we walked out!

The selection and quality of books here is excellent, and the prices are nearly impossible to beat, whether online or at other bookshops. (Who cares if the shopkeeper is dour?)

Nice place to browse, I discovered Nabokovs lectures on Russian Literature here once, and the author MFK Fisher. By the way, bookstores are about books, not customer service.

The shopkeep always manages to have a bad attitude every time Ive visited this store. Id recommend the bookstore just a few blocks north on Broadway from this one.

Tucked away in a corner of Lakeview, this bookstore has a friendly owner (just say hi) and lots of autographed works of literature. Note to patrons: CASH only.

Neat and tidy. Books are shelved according to category, with a large and varied selection. Staff are not too militant about phones and are generally nice.

Never had a problem. Always helpful and fun to talk to. Plus, a great selection of books that are also well organized.

Here you will find the misanthrope in his natural habitat, among the silverfish and dust mites.

Hilarious name. But the selection is merely adequate.
