Received a $5 off coupon from this store and decided to take advantage of the discount. I visited the store earlier today (July 1) and was sorely disappointed in EVERY aspect of my visit! When I entered the store there were two employees behind the register. Not once during the 20+ minutes I was initially in the store did either one ask if they could help me. Once I made my decision I stood at the counter for over 5 minutes while the young lady was helping another customer. While I was waiting the phone began to ring. The young lady who was helping the other customer came to the counter to get the phone and mumbled something about "...why isnt he answering the phone?" As I waited for somebody to ring up my item, I searched for their price matching policy online and compared the price to PetSmart. When she finished with the other customer, she came to the counter and I explained that PetSmart had the same food for $5 cheaper and showed her on their website. She stated that she would have to call the store to verify the price. I stood there for another 15 minutes waiting for them to verify the price. Im sure they have caller ID and are not going to be particularly speedy about getting back to their competition. When they finally came back on the phone, they told here that the food was normally $45 but it was $41 with their Pet Perks membership. The price shown on PetSmarts website was $41 with no mention of having to be a member of their club. Additionally, I could purchase the product online and pick it up at the store within 15 minutes for the exact $41 quoted (again, without any membership needed). Unfortunately, the young lady stated that she could not match the price because they "...dont match online prices." I explained that I can go and pick it up in 15 minutes after purchasing it on their site... In fact, the money is not actually transferred online. You actually pay for it AT THE STORE! She shrugged her shoulders and said "thats our policy." Not once did she try to speak to a manager or do ANYTHING to be of any help. I walked out and left my buggy at the register. After a few min, I re-entered the store with intent of speaking with manager. The young lady was in the back with a customer. I stood at the end of the isle and waited for 5 min. I used my cell and called the store... No answer! Another 5 min passed, the young man and another young lady appeared. It became apparent that the second young lady was the manager (or at least the manager on duty). **as an aside; where the heck were the two of them while I waited at the register earlier for over 15 minutes? Where were they when I was calling on the phone? Why didnt one of the answer the phone when the young lady was helping the other customer?** I explained the situation and said that I felt the policy was shortsighted. She gave me the same basic response as before. She had no intent of even trying to help me or explain the policy beyond "yep, thats the policy." I asked if they had a customer service number and she happily (almost in a snarky eff you kind of way) handed me a brochure with the number and said "...theyre open until 5:00, so you have a couple of more hours to get in touch with them." When I worked retail management, if a call went to corporate because of something as petty as this, I would loose my job; or at least be written up! Tried to call the number provided and was met with a message that stated everyone is busy on other calls, but please hold and someone will be with you and then the call was disconnected. Tried several more times... same result! What retail company has a customer svc dept like this? I made my purchase at PetSmart where they HAPPILY took their competitors coupon. In the end I got what I was looking for ($41 base price AND was able to use the $5 coupon). Ive never done business with Pet Supermarket and can GUARANTEE that I wont in the future. They had an opportunity to win a new customer but couldnt see the proverbial forest for the trees! Poorly run from the store level on up to the corporate office!

Two weeks ago my husband and I went to Pet Super Market in Douglasville, there I saw this one Betta fish priced at 45$. I picked him up and he was in pretty bad condition. His fines were all torn and ripped up, and he just didnt look good at all. I felt bad for this guy, but no way was I going to pay 45$, nor did I have an extra tank. I went back to the pet store this past Tuesday (two weeks later) and the poor Betta was still there! Still sitting in that small little cup. So I went to the manager and told them how bad this poor fish looks and that I had seen him two week ago and that I was sure he had been there for a while. I ask if they can sale him to me for a discount. The manager agreed that the Betta was in bad condition and that he had been there for a while. She then told me they couldnt sale him to me in such bad condition, and that she would take him to the back to medicate him. Okay perfect! I went back yesterday ( Wednesday ) to check on him. I talked with of the employees and she said that the Betta fish has been there since December!!! Living in that small cup for at least three months. And I thought two weeks was horrible. I told the employee that I wanted to take him, but not for 45$, the employee took my name and number and said she would talk to the manager about a discount. I went back today and I talked to the manager myself. I told her I wanted the fish and that I was aware how long the Betta had been there and ask if they could give me a discount. The manager told me he needed another weeks worth of meds and whenever he was ready they would put him back on the shelf to sale. She then tells me that they wouldnt give me a discount. After talking to her and telling her that I was willing to pay for the fish right then and there, and that NO ONE was going to pay that much for a fish in that condition. The manager then tells me that she was thinking of buying the fish once he was better. I find this to be very wrong for a few reasons, One, you didnt care to medicate this fish until I said something about his condition. Two, I feel like if I hadnt said a word to them and just paid the 45, they would have sold him to me without any thought. Three, you had three month to care for and buy this poor fish yourself long before I was interested. They simply dont care about their animals and are more interested in making money.

The only reason as to why I give One star is due to the absolutely horrific conditions they keep their Betta fish. Betta fish should have a *minimum* of 2 gallons, a decent filter, and a usable heater. (Unlike popular belief, Betta fish do not live in "mud puddles". No living fish could ever survive in those conditions. Betta fish originate from Thailand, and must have water temperatures of at least 75-82 degrees. Wild Bettas live in the acres of rice paddies in Thailand. These fish are used to having territories of 3ft.sq. Many people claim that their fish lived for x years inside of a bowl with no filtration, nor heater. It is the same as keeping a dog tied up to a tree for all of its life. They may survive, but they will not thrive.) I would also think that the store employees would have the decency to at least change the water in the tiny cups that house the Bettas. That was not the case when I visited this store. The water inside of the "Betta Cups" were beyond disgusting. Feces and left over food pellets coated the bottom of each cup. As i looked around at the physical condition of the fish, I noticed that over half of them where already dead. The hand-full that were still alive were in such a state that Ive never seen before. Patches of scales were completely rotted off their body. Fin Rot was an obvious case in all of the fish. Which ever ones that were spared of the rot had terribly clamped fins. The only healthy Betta Fish i saw in the entire store was the one in the photograph above the Betta section.
