SECOND EDIT: Save it, Fred. Your lazy work could have killed me. Do you really think Im stupid enough to bring it to you to correct? People trust you with their lives. YOU DONT GET A SECOND CHANCE. DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. Youve lost me as a customer FOREVER, and I hope you lose as many customers as possible over that screw up. EDIT: NOT a fake review as the owner suggests below. Typical, denying responsibility and blaming their customer. Yes, I changed my name, some people dont like giving out their information online as it is not safe. They screwed up as bad as they said I did, and if they actually gave it a rigorous test ride they would have experienced the same problems. The bike didnt work, it nearly caused me to crash, Im not going back in there to give them a second chance at hurting me. Ill go somewhere with competent mechanics for that. ORIGINAL POST: HACK MECHANICS, STAY AWAY! My road bike was in need of its yearly tune up, so I thought I’d give Bike South a try. At $160, I thought the tune up was expensive, but like the old saying goes, “you get what you pay for”. Wrong. On my FIRST ride after the work was done, my chain slipped 3 times while climbing a hill in low gear. I needed to get home, so I put it into high gear and figured I’d just sweat a little more. Well, it then slipped off the OUTSIDE of the sprocket. That’s right, they screwed up the adjustment on both sides. How they could let such a poorly adjusted bike leave their hand is beyond me. They are lucky I didn’t get hurt. Im through with them. I don’t want them to ever touch my bike again. What reason do I have to give them a second try? I don’t trust them with my safety and I suggest you not either. I’d rather be out the $160 than in the hospital. They obvious cater to rich Emory students and their neighborhood counterparts, knowing that they can overcharge them for unacceptable service. Don’t let their high prices fool you, this place STINKS! I wish zero stars were an option, because giving them 1 implies that they even deserve that. And Fred, save your pathetic BS responses. You can SAY you try to offer the best service possible all you want, but my EXPERIENCE does not reflect that. Your words mean nothing, your business speaks for itself. Your mechanic could have gotten me killed. Youre running your shop into the ground and literally taking your customers with you. Your responses are not nearly as diplomatic and situation soothing as you might think, youd be better off leaving your PR to someone else. Sorry if it sounds personal, but my skin is quite personal to me so excuse me if Im upset. Sorry, but you dont get to fix this situation. I wouldnt have gotten a second chance if you had gotten me seriously injured, so Im not going to give you a second chance to make this right. Sometime one is all you get, and you blew it. PS: I read some other reviews and just want to say that everyone who says their mechanics are rude are completely correct. Be prepared to stare into a pair of dead, vapid eyes with a thousand yard stare and mouth half open (if make that face yourself and you can literally start to feel the apathy set in) as you describe your issue. That is, if you are lucky enough to get someone to pay attention to you at all. Its like they think they are doing you some HUUUUGE favor by assisting you.

Terrible place. I paid over $200 and waited 10 days for a tune up on my mountain bike. When I arrived to pick it up (they called to say it was ready), took over half an hour for them to finally come out with my tire and tube in hand showing me a horrible split and puncture. Apparently they were rotted, and somehow in 10 days no one managed to notice that. Had to pay almost $50 more to get new tires, new tubes, plus the labor. They didnt even bother to wipe it of with a cloth (let alone wash it down, which would have been really nice customer service). Nope, my bike had dirt, dust, cobwebs and rust all over it when I took it in, and looked EXACTLY the same when I took it home save for the new tires I had to buy AFTER I got there to pick it up. Im not saying they HAD to clean it, but at least run a cloth over it to get the spider webs off, for $200. Then, once I got it home, I noticed BOTH the front AND the rear brake pads were rubbing very prominently anytime I walked it around a corner. I had to re-load it in my car, drive back, and the guy acted surprised that I wasnt pleased about the rub. Now, this was not just some nit-picky touched the rim for a nanosecond rub. It was a loud grinding-type of rub. And he didnt even acknowledge that it was on both the front and the rear. They took it in the back, set it on the stand, and MIGHT have tweaked the brakes just a tad. Still rubs in the front, but thats the better of the two, and the back doesnt rub now. So I just took my bike and left. THE WORST for customer service, and as for going that "extra mile", theyre not even a millimeter down that road in my book. Will never go back, and never recommend. And, I agree, their stock did not appear that nice and accessories seemed mostly cheap or gimicky. Im not an expert in that area (or in bikes, else I would have done my own tune up), but it this just does NOT impress the average rider customer like myself.

Ive been a customer of Bike South for years now. I have purchased at least 4 bikes from them, both for commuting and more serious road riding, not to mention multiple wheel sets and other parts. Theyve also done all the service on my bikes over that time and I have been very pleased with their service. They are very up-front about pricing, get work done quickly, and Ive never experienced an arrogant sales person there. I am very hard on bikes and go through a lot of parts, and BS has always been very good at helping me choose the best replacements. They have also offered me quite a bit of personal consultation on my last two bike purchases, going so far as to do independent research on the best steel frame for me. They recommended a brand they do not normally carry, so there is no effort to keep you on a Giant or Raleigh (their primary brands) if that is not the best bike for you. They also built me a custom wheel set a few months ago, which included a lot of personal attention in choosng the most appropriate best rims, hubs, and spokes. When I had spokes left over they even offered to store them for me free of charge. I cracked the frame on one of my old steel bikes and BS did a great job of convincing the manufacturer to cover it under full warranty, which they did. I also bought a set of Velocity wheels from them years ago and one of them kept causing flats. Again, BS did the leg work in getting Velocity to give me a full refund, then put me on a set of Mavic wheels that Ive been very happy with. Anyway, these are just a few quick examples of my experience with them. I highly recommend Bike South.
