I would like to share with you my experience purchasing a frog, just under a week ago. I purchased it as species pet supply, it was a dumpy tree frog. Just under a week of bringing it home, I noticed abnormal lumps on one side, and a cut on its butt. Tree frogs should not be handled too often, as it is not good for them. They have very sensitive skin. I had not noticed the bumps on his side, because until picking him up, they were hidden behind his leg. Dumpy Tree Frogs are nocturnal creatures and sleep balled up during the day, thus his legs by his side covering up the bumps. I brought the frog back and spoke to the owner. He refused to do anything about it, except put medicine on the cut, but my main concern was the abnormal lumps. He used the following line: " well you signed a wavier" , which I did not and he was unable to find this wavier that I supposedly signed. He was rude in his interactions, and sent me on my way knowing there was nothing I could do. This isnt the first time employees have been rude, family members have had negative experiences in the past. My advice, avoid this shop, you wont be treated properly, and will be subject to unethical business practices. In response to the response from the owner: I would never neglect an animal. I cared for the animal from day one. This is not my first time owning a frog, I have owned them, taken care of them, and loved them since I was a little kid. At no time did I admit to any form of neglect, In fact I fight for the fair and ethical treatment of humans and animals alike. Please do not put words into my mouth, and respond to far stretched assumptions. I wish I could post pictures, as it would be clear that injuries/infections such as what my poor frog has, do not appear in such a short time span. I did not inspect the frog, as I expected to receive a pet that did not have any pre-existing conditions. There are two sides to each story, and I have updated this review to include the information you felt should be included. I will admit I had raised my voice, but at no time was it at a level above a loud speaking voice. I did not yell, and I kept my composure. I think the response that the owner himself has posted, speaks for itself in terms of how he treats his customers. Comment from a witness: I have known Spencer for years and I am a witness to his dedication and his care of animals. As a teen he owned many frogs of several types and even visited local day cares to educate others. He is an incredibly responsible and passionate pet owner and advocate. I completely disagree with the accusation of neglect by the owner.

This has to be one of the greatest disappointments in a pet store experience Ive ever had the displeasure to witness. If you are looking for quality customer service, healthy pets, and knowledgeable staff LOOK ELSEWHERE! The first thing that hits you when you walk into this store is the smell, filthy enclosures and poor hygiene meet your nose as you walk in. The aquatics section isnt very large, with very limited selection, begging the question "Why are these tanks so dirty, and why are there so many dead fish?". Getting any useful help here is almost impossible as employees seem per-occupied, and uncaring, in this instance bad-mouthing another employee or management. Employees are ego-centric coming off with an "I know everything attitude" towards customers, and seemingly scoffing at their questions. Swearing can be heard from employees around the store, regardless if kids are present or not, extremely unprofessional and immature. I asked if they kept their diurnal reptiles under UV lighting and was told "The store owner wont pay for it" basically. I noticed hamsters were scarred from fighting, Ich on most of the fish selection, I overheard someone say a Cockatiel was missing a toe. Everything in this store is overpriced, at least 50% over what I can get the products I was looking for from other reputable dealers. Puppies looked to be obtained from a puppy-mill, and the enclosures of most of the animals I saw were laden with waste. If you make the mistake of purchasing here, be aware that refunds are not given, and you may only receive store credit. Dont take your debt/credit card if youre planning on spending less than $10, or you will be told grumpily by the cashier "I have a $10 minimum on cards". All these people care about is making a sale, welfare of animals, customer service, and professionalism all take a back seat. Please if you read this, dont support this store. This is one of the worst possible ways that a pet shop can be run, the manner of which they do business is deplorable, and the way they treat their animals could be considered by some to be animal cruelty.

I cant comment on the entire store, and perhaps theyre great for some things. But I went in specifically looking for a younger pair of same-sex gerbils for my classroom today. All the smaller animals such as hamsters, gerbils, rats, etc were in open-top pens so people could interact with them and it was very crowded. I noticed that the gerbils were quite large, which usually indicates theyre quite a bit older. Ive had many gerbils and these were eitjer several years old or grossly overfed. You would have a fairly short life span for those creatures since they usually only live 3 to 4 years. They also were extremely sedate and not moving around a lot which is questionable for me because gerbils are very active creatures when they are awake. Hamsters sleep a lot but gerbils are very active. My other concern was when I asked the gentleman what gender they were he said "well, theyre all siblings" and he proceeded to pick them up by their tails and "check" gender. If you know anything about gerbils you never pick them up by their tails. Gerbils are prone to tail slip...the skin on their tail can completely come off. The gentleman didnt actually interested in helping us after that and walked away. I will stick with Petsmart.

Went to Creature Castle and "adopted" a kitten. Was told they had dewormed the kitten and had given it shots. I actually figured that meant it had seen the vet. They assured me the kittens were healthy, and showed me a dodgy certificate about the received shots and deworming. However, I took the kitten to the vet, and it had tapeworms, hookworms, and roundworms. On top of that, the kitten had a bad upper respiratory infection (which I could tell anyway because of its sneezing the same day I adopted it), and it also had ear mites. I went to the vet very shortly after adopting the kitten, and it was an indoor cat, and I have no other pets. Thus, there is no way it could have contracted any of this while the short time in my care. The kitten was very sick. I was very disappointed. The vet bill was over $300!! However, after being treated, the kitten is doing great and hes a great addition to the family. I would recommend to everyone, please go to the humane society to adopt a pet, or it will end up costing you much, much more to adopt a kitten at Creature Castle.
