My work truck got burglarized there, aggressive vagabond moochers in front of the store, and my retired ex-Marine buddy got ripped off. Yesterday I parked my work truck in the Waterbury HD parking lot about 7 cars away from the garden center entrance. Within 30 minutes that I was inside the store somebody snipped off a padlock on the back of my truck and stole my power tools plus copper fittings - damage worth of hundreds of dollars. When I asked the store manager for a surveillance tape, he told me that they only monitor the inside and perimeter of the building and that there are no cameras in the parking lot. When I called a few of my contractor buddies from Waterbury, every single one of them had their vehicle either burglarized, or knew somebody who did in that parking lot. My understanding is that vehicle break-ins are a common occurrence in this parking lot and that the Home Depot does not do anything about it to protect their customers. When I spoke to police, they told me that it is a private property so their hands are tight and that unless I know the serial numbers of all of my power tools that I will never see them again. The next nightmare almost every time I go there are swarms of aggressive moocher vagabonds from the shelter next door that approach people for change in the parking lot or in front of the exit / entrance to the store. Please instead of giving them any change, call the police and complain to the manager on duty to get rid of them, because the minute you walk into the store, their accomplices will burglarize your vehicle. The third sour experience within the past couple of years with this store was when my older buddy, a retired ex-Marine Vietnam vet needed to buy a few thousand dollars worth of materials for his home remodeling project. Being elderly, he forgot his VA ID at home, so he went to the customer service desk and asked them that if he makes the purchase today, if they will they honor the military discount when he brings his ID next time. They told him: "yes". Couple weeks later he went to this store and brought his receipt and VA ID, and was shocked when they told him: "Sorry, we do not give military discount unless you are a disabled vet, or on active duty". The store manager was called and gave the same "store policy BS". So thats how they ripped off a retiree for hundreds of dollars inside this store. By the way, his truck got broken into and burglarized couple years ago at this location as well. The bottom line is that the Lowes in Southington gives military discount to anyone who served regardless off the status, disabled or not, active or not, as long as you have a valid VA ID. The Lowes is more neat, better stocked, less crowded, and has no vagabonds in the parking lot. In summary it would cost me less to drive the extra 15 minutes for the next 20 years to Southington considering the losses me and my friend incurred at this Home Depot store.

Terrible. The swagged-out adolescent ringing my order up was busy playing with his cell phone, joking with his coworker on the next register, no doubt in deep conversation about Kanyes latest tweet or what YOLO SWAG parts he was thinking about getting next for his Civic. He ended up having to ring my order up twice, due to negligence with the register or some other issue, maybe missed the confirmation screen saying the card went through. When I asked for a receipt, he said something along the lines of, "oh snap I think somethin happened I gotta ring your order again." I asked if I would be charged twice since he literally re-rung everything and had me swipe my card again, and he said something like, "nah B, its prolly good." Got my receipt this time, and left, a little frustrated at the poor customer service and attention to LITERALLY THE ONE JOB YOU HAVE TO DO. Sure enough when I checked my bank statement, my order was charged twice. When I called the store to ask how I should handle getting my money back for the products I didnt receive, the gentleman on the other end politely suggested that "well maybe you should just bring your receipt in with the return and we can process it for you," trying to explain to me how a return works. When I explained the situation, how I was charged TWICE for products I received ONCE in the physical, material, world, he could not comprehend how this was possible, and suggested I come into the store with my receipt and the products I wished to return. Do yourself a favor, and drive the extra 15 minutes down I-84 east to visit the Southington Home Depot, by the truck stop. At least their cashiers can pay enough attention to not charge you twice and create the extra headache.

Omg ... Not enough people to help you in the Waterbury Ct store . Then they shove you into the self check out and dont want to help you there either . Yesterday a friend and business man ,who spends over a thousand dollars a month in that store was aggressively confronted by a very young security guard because he opened a stupid tape measure to measure the wood he purchased ! He accused him of trying to remove it from the store ! He had left it on the counter . The reason he used the tape measure was because no one would assist him . The security guard told him to shut his mouth or he would "take him down" ! Then he went and got 2 other guards and called the police!! Only in the south end of the wonderful city of Waterbury . The SWAT team from the Waterbury police department came and arrested him for a damn tape measure which he didnt even attempt to steal !! He told them to look at the video.which they didnt. How horrible is this. The police dep let him go. However , the wanna be cop from Home Depot pressed charges against him for opening the package ! Wth ! Take a look at your damn parking lot at the pan handlers and the safety out there and stop accosting your loyal customers . Get some appropriate help and get control in there . No more business in that hell hole. What a shame . I would give you a zero star if I could. You dont treat customers who pay and are loyal like criminals ,while the criminals are standing right outside the door! That security guard should be fired .

I have had excellent experience with Wtby Home Depot. If you ask questions most of the time I have gotten a helpful answer. The staff has been really helpful . They help load your purchased materials. I ask alot of questions and they have never given me the impression that I am a nuisance. My problems have been handled effectively except. My experience with a third party delivery vendoe for a refrigerator was a nightmare. They couldnt get the delivery correct. I am in the Wtby store practically everyday and find the store and its merchandise very good. And yes, several times i have been approached by pan handlers and I have firmly told them "no thank you". I am a female so they probably feel there are no tools worth stealing in my vehicle. I find Wtby Home Depot and Lowes both good places to shop. Its good to have two similar stores to do comparison shopping.
