If it were possible to award negative stars, DeVars-Phillips would merit 5 negative stars. I have never had such a bad experience with any florist before. When I arrived home yesterday, I found a message with a number to call to arrange for a floral delivery. I called the number and left a message stating that I needed to arrange a specific time as soon as possible as I had a thousand things to do as my father had just passed away. I did not get a call back. I called again shortly before 9 this morning. No call back. I tried the florists published number and left the same message. No call back. Finally on the fourth try I reached an employee at the sop. He said that there were 3 deliveries ahead of me, that I would have to "wait my turn" and that the flowers would be there by noon. I again explained why I needed to have the flowers delivered as soon as possible. I could hear the smirk in his voice as he stated in a very insincere tone that he was sorry for my difficulties but I would just have to wait. Im afraid that his lack of compassion and understanding pushed me over the edge and I screamed at him and hung up. And then I waited. And waited. And waited. Finally at 1PM I tried the delivery number again and got a real person. I was told that I was next and that they were in Hartford and would be there shortly. The flowers finally arrived at 2PM. It took an hour to go 3 miles. I was appalled at what was delivered! What would have been a lovely arrangement was ruined by the cheap plastic bowl it was presented in. The bowl was held together by scotch tape and was so flimsy that it buckled under the weight of the flowers and kept tipping over. It looked like something Cool Whip was packaged in except that the Cool Whip container is sturdier. I ended up placing the arrangement in my own container. Additionally one of the candles was jammed in haphazardly and kept flopping over. DeVars-Phillips proudly states on their web site that they "Recived (sic) the Most Improved Florist by Florist of Connecticut." If my experience represents the improved model, I shudder to think what the original must have been like. I would strongly urge anyone who is considering ordering flowers from Devars-Phillips to think again. And if you are ordering from an on-line organization such as 1-800-Flowers, I would suggest specifying that you do not want your order placed through DeVars-Phillips.

I love getting flowers here. The owner is so warm and smart. He can create beautiful arrangements even if you need to stick to a lower budget. The arrangements NEVER look like florist-out-of-a-box arrangements. Theyre always truly tasteful and artistic, and the flowers are so well taken care of in the shop that they still look great in my house after a week has gone by. A plus is that you can look around the shop at the pretty antiques as the arrangements are being made.

This is such a small shop and yet they get the job done. They arrange the flowers for weddings, bridal parties, baby showers, banquets and more all while arranging their everyday orders and marketing in antiques. The job the owner does is fantastic and I wouldnt think of going to any other florist or even ordering with third party florist. If you are thinking of buying flowers for someone or even for yourself I suggest you call this florist first hand.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a local florist with a website that offered online ordering. The site was simple to use and offered a plethora of beautiful arrangements at a variety of prices. I ordered on Friday and the flowers were delivered to my sister-in-laws hospital room on Saturday. She said they are beautiful. Thank you. I called to place an order over the phone, the man on the other line was very rude. He asked me who and where is it going to and what am I looking for. When I mentioned the arrangement he said stupid who would like to have pink orange flowers and he said that he do not want it and goodbye and hung up.

We used De Vars for our daughters wedding a year ago. The floral arrangements were gorgeous! We found the experience so easy. They took the stress out of wedding planning.We have another wedding next year and I cant imagine using anyone else!

BUYERS BEWARE! Bought flowers for Mothers day on Friday they were dead by Sunday...How awful is it to call mom only to have her say they died a day and a half later!! Not good business to short change moms.
