I literally drive 2 miles to go to ACE Hardware right past Home Depot (2 blocks away) and Lowes (4 blocks away) because of customer service. Well NOT after today! I tried to return an $8.59 unopened 1/2pint of Enamel. I didnt realize Ace Hardware has a 30day return policy. Sure enough it clear says so the very last line of the receipt that is as long as my forearm for one item. The associate was very nice and apologetic and said he could return it with managements approval. He called the manager over this is where everything went South. The manger came over and snapped at me when I say snapped I mean snapped. The associate said, "This is over 30 days", without even assessing the situation the manger very violently said, "I am NOT returning that!", he turned and walked away. The associate and I just blankly stared at each other. I composed myself and said, "Okay" and took my 1/2 Pint of Enamel with me. Having stewed on what happened I decided to go back to Ace Hardware the following day and speak with them again. I didnt appreciate being treated that way by the manger. I got two mangers today one of which was the manager from the previous day. The original manager stood by his decision to NOT return the Enamel again he turned and walked away from me and guess what he never apologies for the way he spoke to me the previous day. The second manager did profusely but thats NOT the same is it? I also returned everything we bought the day prior because that receipt was with in the 30day return period. Then we drove over to Home Depot and bought the same products for cheaper than Ace Hardware. Thanks Ace Hardware for the $8.59 lesson we will be shopping else where. Most hardware companies offer the same products so they have two things to offer, price and service. I chose to go to Ace Hardware because of service so if I am NOT getting the service at Ace Hardware I might as well get lower prices else where with a better return policy.

I went to Ace Hardware on June 25th around 8am. As soon as I had entered the building, the employee was bringing out the first stock of ADV coolers. There were no visible signs that stated that there was a no refund policy on the cooler. I asked the guy that was stocking them if I was able to return the product if I was not happy with it. He said yes, you can return it, just keep the box and the reciept. So I grabbed one and proceeded to check out. I asked the cashier if I was able to return the product. She told me, I would be able to return it within 15 days with a reciept and the box. I asked again if she was sure, and she said yes. I used the ADV cooler that night, and was completely unsatisfied with the product. So I stopped using it. On July 3, around 3:30pm I came in to return the product that I was unsatisfied with. When I walked in, I noticed signs saying the ADV cooler was not able for return. I proceeded to customer service, and the employee said he could not give me a refund. So I asked to talk to his manager. She told me that she could only give us store credit, and I assured her that her employees told us we would be able to return it with a reciept and box. She still said no, so I asked to speak with her boss. She walked towards the general manager. They talked for a few seconds and she came back to me, telling me that she could only give me store credit. I walked over to the general manager and showed him that my reciept says that I am able to return the ADV cooler within 30 days. I also told him that there were no signs out that said I was unable to return the product when I purchased the product, and also explained that his employees told me I would be able to return the product. He said, "You are a liar." I was completely disrespected by this man and he also said, "I will give you half back for the time you rented the cooler." I told him what he was doing was illegal, and that he would be hearing from me.

-->> In all fairness, some quick trips - in and out for small items rendered friendly interaction between cashiers and myself. Longer shopping experiences for larger items or to get even a key made landed with mixed experiences. Example: when i went to get a key made .. was dealing with unfriendly workers that acted like they didnt want to be there. While they did try to find a match for the key it took 3 - 4 workers to get an answer to the first gentleman on why he couldnt find the key - style to make mine. After 45 min. of waiting around and wasting time for them to scramble for the ultimate answer :: "Uh, Yeah - we cant make this key. Try elsewhere." .. - - i was polite and thanked them. Walking out underwhelmed. The key was able to be made at a different ACE location, further away with much more knowledgeable employees that were friendlier and actually seemed like they wanted to help and that you werent annoying them. Its hit or miss at this location, hit or miss that youre going to be treated like a human being , and hit or miss if your are going to be stuck out on your own in the big store looking for what the heck you need with no employee even wanting to help you. It does come to it : "Whats the point of even shopping here even if it is local." Returning to the store a few years later lead to a bit better experience. Friendly staff, eager to help & better deals. Time changes things I guess. Good gift section. ~ t

We bought river tubes at this location. They were defective. On their receipt it says well repair, replace, or refund purchases for 30 days. My son and I went in to get a refund. We were met with complete resistance. Janine and Vernon told us that we needed to go through the manufacturer, told us that they dont take those things back, went as far as saying we used them wrong. Pushed back at every opportunity. Finally after calling them on their printed policy, as well as reading to them the boxes description of use for the stupid tubes they agreed to the refund. A debit card was used and should have been able to get cash. But they refused that as well. Since my friend used HER debit card she had to be present. When she went back later, Janine and Vernon pulled the same exact stunt. Tried to AGAIN refuse the refund. We will NEVER shop at ace hardware for ANYTHING. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Every time I shop at this store, I swear it will be my last time, and I think my trip today really was my last. We moved into the vicinity three years ago, and Ive made frequent visits here because it is the hardware store thats closest to our new house. Everyone has a bad day, and every store has a bad day now and again, but these people are consistently rude and unfriendly. The staff often acts like theyre performing a Saturday Night Live skit parodying "the place with the helpful hardware man"! Sure, Ive had encounters there with employees who really are friendly and knowledgeable. But Ive had too many experiences (like today) of almost aggressive indifference, disinterest, and meanness. Im going to drive the extra distance to the Ace over on Uintah. The folks who work at that store are as consistently friendly as those working at the store on Circle are hyper-UNfriendly.
