DO NOT LET HOME DEPOT HAVE DELTA MECHANICAL INSTALL YOUR HOT WATER HEATER. Our experience with the hot water installation service through Home Depot/Delta Mechanical has been a COMPLETE AND UTTER NIGHTMARE. Almost a month ago, we went through HD to have a new hot water heater installed in a rental property that we own. Delta Mechanical was extremely quick--if not overly pushy--in contacting us and scheduling an appointment. They called at hours entirely too early to be appropriate. When they did come out to install our hot water heater, they were extremely late. But the worst part about the experience is that THEY FLOODED OUR BASEMENT. The contractor who was installing stepped outside to smoke a cigarette while he was waiting for the newly installed hot water heater to fill and came back inside to find hed been gone too long. The hot water heater was overly full, and the basement was flooding. High pressure water was gushing everywhere. We were unable to be present for the entire install due to work (and the fact that wed already spent over 2 hours waiting for them to show up in the morning), but my husband returned to the house to be there when the contractor finished up. When my husband arrived at the house, HE FOUND THE CONTRACTOR USING OUR TENANTS PROPERTY TO MOP UP THE MESS. It was evident that the contractor was frantically trying to cover up what had happened (as if a bath towel could mop up that amount of water!) We had standing water an inch deep in our basement. It ran through our drywall. It flooded the hot water heater (which ruins them), and he ruined our tenants property (towels and numerous items that were on the floor of the flooded basement). When the contractor finally left, he didnt even light the pilot in the hot water heater or turn the water back on, leaving our tenants without hot water. It took us numerous calls before we were able to get anyone from Delta Mechanical to come out and clean up the water in our basement later that same day. Then, Deltas regional manager was completely unresponsive as we attempted to get in touch with him to talk about resolving the remaining damages. We had his national office calling him and he absolutely refused to even talk with us. It was nothing short of a miracle that we were able to have Delta Mechanical come back out the next day to replace the water heater that they had ruined. And the contractor they sent was extremely unprofessional. He was rude. He attempted to leave before the job was done. He told us this wasnt his problem. Ridiculous. We had to completely monitor him to ensure the work was done. Now, nearly a month later, were still trying to work out the details of this issue. Water on drywalls ruins drywall. Our tenants personal property was ruined. YET neither Home Depot nor their insurance processing center, Sedgwick, will do anything about the situation. Delta Mechanical has denied our insurance claim. And Sedgwick says that unless we can concretely prove that the flooding and damage was a result of Delta/HDs negligence, they wont do anything!? We took plenty of pictures of the damages, but none of them illustrate the depth of the water or the level of damage. Theres nothing in the photos that shows Delta Mechanicals handy work (logos etc.). And as a result, our evidence isnt considered substantial enough. This has been a nightmare. My husband and I have had to spend countless hours calling and dealing with this--which cuts into our work. Its total insanity that weve had to spend as much time dealing with this as we have. Furthermore, this situation has impacted our tenants. Its disheartening that no one will be accountable for the mess they made. Were not asking for anything other than for them to complete the job we paid them to do. Had they done their jobs properly to begin with, none of us would be in this situation. And now were simply asking for them to return our home to the condition it was in before we ever made the mistake of soliciting their services. What a nightmare. Never again.

-Tool rental sucks. Cant tell you how many pieces of equipment Ive rented from this place that arent working. Manager hung up on me when I complained. -Poor quality. Planned obsolesce. Big names sell at HD, like Kohler and LG, but they make lower quality products for this chain. Ive had everything I bought from HD break after a few years. LG washer dryer I bought for my mom-gone in two years. Kohler dual flush toilet-mechanism was supported by plastic straws. There was no way a flush button could survive when what connected it to the flush system was a plastic straw. Even the light fixtures. I wanted a set of light fixtures for a bathroom. Lowes had the vanity fixture, HD had the sconces. The sconces peeled after two years.PEELED. The HD fixture was paper over glass, not colored glass. Lowes fixture is fine. Both are in same room. Antique bronze light fixtures turned green. Ceiling fan I installed in one property broken after three years. Motor burned out. Even their wood sucks. Bought some stair stringers here. The wood was so soft the tips of the stringers were gone in two years. Broken off. I guess I could try and return some things after a few years, but didnt want to deal with it. If Im going to pay an electrician and plumber a second time, Id rather have quality over the absolute GARBAGE HD sells. Im serious. HD sells things that last about 2-3 years. Gets you back in the door when it breaks. Even things that dont break, like paint, are the lowest quality you can buy-full of plastic fillers which reflect poor color. And the thing is, its not that cheap. Go to Benjamin Moore for paint. You cant trust anything this store sells -Boulder store is understaffed. The staff hate their jobs. HD wont pay more to attract the staff it needs. I guess HD is okay for home flippers that arent going to be around to find things falling apart in a few years, but not for the person that needs something to function long term.

Extended Warranty issue: I purchased a hot water heater (HWH) in 2006 with a Home Depot "Lifetime Warranty" (at a higher price) which on their invoice actually stated "Lifetime in home replacement including delivery, parts and labor". Well, it finally died this year and it was time to use the warranty. Then the horror began. First was trying to get in contact with anyone who would claim responsibility. The store directed me to the website CS. Website CS said I would need to talk to the Home warranty insurance company. They said I would need to work with their contractor in Denver. The contractor said this was going to be a nightmare and I would only be compensated partially. (They were right on both counts). Long story short, Home Depot was extremely unprepared to handle that old a warranty and no one wanted to take responsibility for it. Their mantra was "we dont sell that anymore". I eventually was given an in store credit for the HWH only and had to pay the plumber to accompany me to pick up and deliver it as well as the install. This was a horrible customer service experience and I would advise all to be very wary of ANY long term extended warranties from the Home Depot. Im giving 2 stars only because they did finally give me credit for the original HWH price. I am lodging a BBB complaint against Home Depot for the remaining charges to install the unit. Will advise you of that outcome.
