I first came to Beacon Coffee Co back in November of 2011 and now Im proud to say that Im a regular. They not only serve the best coffee/espresso in town, they roast it themselves...right here in Ventura. On top of that, the owners - John and Jennifer - are great people whom I frequently hear eagerly sharing their wealth of coffee knowledge with customers - from home espresso making advice to the nuances of coffee origins to new cafe design to espresso blends...the depth of their knowledge and willingness to share with those who are eager to learn never ceases to blow my mind. Espresso - Over the last 16 months, I have enjoyed many of the iterations of their espresso (currently at version 20 - Beacon XX) and it is the best I have had. Rarely does espresso come with such thick, rich crema, such complex and complimentary flavor profiles and such a nice finish. Additionally, it stands up for itself amongst the espresso based drinks they serve - most notably, the flat white :D French Press - When I first came to Beacon, I thought French Presses were for coffee snobs and sure they were a different way to make coffee...but at the end of the day, its still the same caffeinated brown stuff in my mug, right? Nope. I have come to appreciate that Beacon forces the issue of high quality coffee by using french presses in their coffee preparation. The complexity and unique flavor profiles of each of their single origin coffees come to life in the cup - usually with a different origin being served each day so each new day presents a new flavor profile to tease your palate. The downside of coming to Beacon is that it will ruin you. You realize that Starbucks coffee isnt actually strong, its burned. You realize that what people had been serving you as espresso was actually terrible. So...if you dont want coffee thats locally roasted in small batches with the sound of beans churning in the background as you sip your espresso, dont come here. If you want to continue to enjoy drinking faceless coffee lacking any sort of unique personality to call its own, dont come here. If you enjoy the anonymity that large chain coffee shops offer and just want to consume coffee, dont come here. Youve been warned. (reposted my review from another site)

Local people roasting incredible coffee! This is my guilty treat every week, I get an iced mocha breve with and extra pull of espresso - amazing. They supply the coffee to most of the non-corporate coffee shops in the county, if that tells you anything. Pictures on the wall from trips theyve taken to meet their coffee bean suppliers, you can watch the coffee being roasted through a window into the back, all the baristas are friendly and super knowledgeable, whats not to love??

The owners of this coffee place visits the countries/farms where the coffee is grown and makes direct sales with the farmers. They roast there own beans in the back. This is by far the most knowledgeable coffee place I ever visited. And you can taste that in the coffee. There is no substitute for quality! I buy my beans for my coffee machine at home there as well. Try it, you wont be disapointed. The opening hours are limited (open till 2 pm)

This is a great place, tucked away in a sterile office park. I was here for a conference and was glad to find this. Coffee is excellent and service friendly. If youre the first pour of the day its free! but its only like $1.25 a cup anyway, which is probably the most amazing thing about this place. Compare to other places that charge $4.50 to $6.00 for a good pour over, this is a return to sanity.

High quality single-estate coffees roasted in-house, traditional coffee drinks, and wonderful pastries in an unpretentious cafe with a talented, courteous staff. This place is a gem with a very loyal following that continues to grow. I put this place a step above Intelligentsia. I strongly recommend the maple bacon biscuits and lattes.

Mellow atmosphere (although small). Great customer service. I had purchased nitro coffee (served without ice) and stayed in the lounge area, and about 20 minutes later the server offered to put ice in my drink to keep it cold. Its small and I hope they can expand Venturas location soon, but its great for what they can make of it.

Instant love. Small joint, only one table, but free wi-fi and EXCELLENT coffee. Truly. Very intimate small-business feel. Makes me smile just bein here. Seriously, very good coffee. Stop in & get some. And then brew it in your French press. ** UPDATE, TWO YEARS LATER: Still there. Still awesome. Beacon coffee, youre the best!

Beacon roasts their beans at this location and brews coffee and espresso. The beans are the best in the area and the people brewing the coffee put effort into making a great drink. However, the location for the shop is out of the way and low on seating.

Im not a coffee drinker. I was told to try Beacon, as it is not as bitter as typical coffee. Recommendation was correct. Beacon coffee is AMAZING. I am always looking for a reason to head toward Ventura, just so I can stop and get a cup of Beacon coffee

A strange location in a new industrial building, but they are clearly passionate about their coffee. They roast on Mondays for the retail operation, so I would recommend Tuesday or Wednesday if youre stopping in to buy beans. Worth checking out.

Best coffee in town. As far as Im concerned, best coffee in the world. The owners care passionately about every aspect of their business, and that passion is evident in the quality of their products and their customer service. Try a flat white!

As their motto states, the coffee is responsibly sourced and thoughtfully roasted. If you start talking to anyone at Beacon, from roaster John to barista Kyle, youll quickly find out how much passion and thought goes into their coffee.

I wanted to commend the gentleman who pulled my espresso shot. The first one apparently didnt come out perfect the first time as i watched him adjust the grinder and pull another shot, and of corse it was delicious

Best little coffee shop in Ventura County, if you ask me. They roast their own beans, too. You can usually find the owners in the shop. All of their stuff is very well sourced and crafted.

Absolutely the best coffee in Ventura County. You cant go wrong with ordering anything at Beacon. Their beans are great too, if you make coffee at home.
