I went with my two kids (9 and 4) on a Saturday morning and found out that they were understaffed by one person. You would never know if someone hadnt told me! We planned to just browse around, pick up a few notions, and maybe a new pattern. We were there for two hours, and loved every minute!! I would come again for the fantastic fabrics that I found while there. So many of them are adorable, cute, funky, and some others are down right hilarious! My son loved the mustache fabric and the matching buttons. I love that everything is clearly labeled and stored by fabric type, and the quality is SO much better than the Joanns and Walmarts. Its a bit far for me to travel there whenever I need something, being about 40 miles away, but I will make my lists and go when Ive got enough stuff to make the gas spent worth it. If it werent for the very friendly and helpful staff, I dont think I would do this. I felt like a pest being new to sewing, but they were just so amazing. They helped me choose a fabric, color, and matching the color of the notions and thread. I got a tour of the shop, and despite my many, many, many, many apologies for my kids playing in the rolls of fun fur, I was told again and again that it was fine and not to worry about it. I even got some recommendations for some gluten free pretzels for my sons allergies, and the name of soy-free chocolate chips for my allergies. And a recommendation for a great bakery nearby for lunch. I cannot stress enough how wonderful the employees are, and how helpful, even when they are short staffed. Im over the moon about the fact that you can order online, and having been to the shop, I know that they really do care about what theyre doing, and know what theyre doing. If you want to place an online order, go ahead and check that box to have them pick up some coordinating thread for you. They do a great job.

Santa Cruz locals may have no idea just how lucky they are to have a business like Harts Fabric in their midst. I got to visit this shop on a recent trip to the Central Coast and there is simply nothing where I come from that can compare to Harts in terms of cleanliness, organization and a pleasant shopping atmosphere. Instead, we are thrown upon the mercies of JoAnns chain stores which are poorly staffed, dark and a mess. Harts Fabric consists of two rooms of fashion and home decor fabrics plus a really nice selection of notions. There was adequate staff to assist clientele and no long lines at the cutting counter (a big wow!). I visited the shop because they are one of the few brick-and-mortar stores in N. California that stock organic fabrics and I had realized this visiting the companys website. Unfortunately, my one disappointment with Harts was that their organic fabrics were limited to about 10-15 total bolts. Not much variety. The employee I spoke with was sympathetic and said they have a hard time getting organics. I really hope they can keep working at this to broaden their selection. As it was, I bought yardage of 3 of their organic fabrics, but I would have bought more had there been more choice. Overall, this is a fabric store of real merit and locals are extremely fortunate to be able to shop for textiles in such a nice place.

Was looking for fabrics to make pillows for a wedding. Walked in 20 minutes before closing, and knew we had to be quick. Barely was there for two minutes and the staff came over and told us they were closing soon (which is totally fine) but the way they said it was more along the lines of hurry up. Not once did they ask us if we needed help. Super snappy and rude. Bummer because we do like to try and shop local and they have such great quality and selection, but probably wont be coming back here any time soon.

My go-to store for finding unique, high quality fabrics every time I need something for a project. I have been shopping at this store since I was a little girl with my mom and grandmother. When I was looking for my wedding dress fabric, I knew I wanted silk, and there it was... 25 yards of the most delicious pink dupioni I have ever seen. Harts continues to delver for me time and time again. I wouldnt dream of shopping elsewhere!

This store has the most beautiful fabrics... and the staff is made up of all creative and friendly seamstresses... if you want quality fabric and you are interested in more than just quilting cottons, Harts is the only store in the area available to you. i love it there.

Cannot say enough positive about Harts Fabric! Most of my shopping with them is done on-line, although the store is "scrumptious" :-) A 100% positive experience, no exceptions. A number of my friends shop there and are equally enamored. Thank you for being there Harts!

Very unhappy with customer or lack of kind service. I have been shopping at harts since Mr. Hart owned. And ever since he sold it has gone done hill. They have fabric most at a high price, but it is the staff that cant care less.

One of the best fabric stores ever. Not huge but a good selection in every category. Home Dec, quilting and fashion fabrics. Very very clean. All of the fabric is well cared for. Well worth any travel necessary to get there.

A little pricey but lots of patterns and fabrics to choose from. I especially like the way they display their buttons. Cool straps, lace, and cord for purses and such. Outdoor upolstery too.
