Theres a place in Richmond where you can buy everything youd ever need at a price you can always afford. Assuming everything you need is vegetables, meat, seafood, and various dry goods imported from Asia, youll be set. New May Wah is a great market. There are not enough superlatives to justify how fresh the produce is, how inexpensive and nice the meat is, and while I havent yet taken home a whole live carp, I want to every time I walk past the chicken carcasses that are crying out to be made into soup. If you dont have the right cleaver to chop up the bok choy, you choy, and spinaches, they sell them in the back next to the clay pots, but I dont come here for the utensils. I come for the rice selection, the spices, and more instant noodle options than I knew existed. In a city that doesnt seem to sell plain gelatin (Trade Joes, f you), New May Wah has it. Thats turned into my mantra. As long as you like to actually cook, not just microwave frozen organic whole-wheat pocket sandwiches stuffed with kale and squash at 5 dollars a pocket, then you will love New May Wah. Any Asian mother would. If you dont love it, enjoy your frozen sandwich.

I like to cook but find Super Markets a challenge when I am in search of produce that excites me. That is not the case when it comes to New May Wah Supermarket, for me its the next best thing to being able to visit the Berkley Bowl and their vegetable selection. As an Italian American White Boy, I love this place, it has Fun Fresh Vegetables, that are Fairly Priced, and Clearly Marked. This is my favorite place to buy Veggies, and find myself tempted to try their Meat Counter, and Fresh Fish. Also a great selection of prepared items, and have only had very positive experiences with the Staff ! For someone that enjoys cooking with an Asian Flair, and or using Affordable Asian Produce in Italian Cooking this is a must place for me to visit every week. If you live in the Richmond District or near it then check out the shopping options. Also Bags Are Not Free, Bring Your Own, Or Consider Buying Cloth Ones You Can Use Again For Years. (SF Law)

Be careful about your health here. It is not the cleanest place. They certainly dont know from organic. I doubt any of the stuff they have has been tested for heavy metals. Also, if you decide to buy, and its something you can sample, like a grape, I would, because theres lots of sketchy produce, and you can get it home and it tastes not good. But be careful because they have a no sampling policy and like to bark at people. And if you get something home and it makes you sick, and you try to talk to somebody, forget it. They are more than happy to lie and say there is no manager here, or just look you in the eye and say we cannot help you.

They have every delicious edible Asian item ever created!! All countries and cuisines are well represented here. Love how one side is all fresh items like produce and fish, and other side in non perishable. Oh and BTW Ive brought many of my suburban pals here just to see the fish dept. It is extremely entertaining for people who havent traveled or dont have anything like this in their grocery store. Fish, crabs, lobsters all swimming in tanks. Move down the aisle on the right to see the many choices in fresh shellfish. All still alive in streaming water. Totally great prices!!

Oh my gosh, it makes me so happy to be near an Asian grocery store again. May Wah has EVERYTHING. I go to purchase produce, meats, seafood, canned goods, dried goods, spices, you name it. I can make all my Chinese comfort foods, some experimental Korean foods, and a few fancy Japanese foods. Its great. The produce isnt super high quality, and the meat / seafood sometimes seems questionable, but Ive been going here for years and have never had a problem. You can even find american sundries like Aunt Jemima haha. :) P.S. Dont mix up the salted eggs with regular eggs.

If you dont know, now you know. New Wah is the bomb. Great selection of fresh veggies..Yu Choy, Bok Choy, you name it theyve got it and at great prices...at least for the produce. The other side of the store with the dry goods is a bit too expensive. Dont go here and expect western service. Be quick, efficient, know what you want, move in, get what you want and move out, dont get in the workers way, dont ask them any questions and definitely dont daddle at closing time. They wont serve you. Im not kidding. When youre here, youre in China.

I come in here to buy 50 lb bags rice whenever I run out of rice. Everytime I go in, the workers think I am stealing for some reason and follow me thinking I dont notice them. They would ask me for a receipt when I exit. Like really? I just came in here for rice that they have to bring out to me. 2 stars because their rice is cheaper. 1 star if I find a place that sells cheaper and better rice.

This place has many interesting goods. I was looking for bean curd. They had at least 50 different ones. Some tofu, some curd with varying chilli levels, some sweet, whole bean fermented, etc. Noodles: there might be more varieties. The ginger they use with sushi: white and pink. Mock meats. Fish. Soy sauce. Prices: quite decent. Inner Richmond has some amazing stores, and this is one of them.

Incredible variety of bottled international flavorings (e.g.pandan). Wide selection of imported foods, fresh, canned, dried and frozen, of many nations NOT exclusively Asian. Asian-style jellies in tins or mix form, lychee, etc. Also fresh baby bananas from Ecuador, regular or organic (!) AND tiny manzano bananas from Colombia..dragon fruit, chestnuts, etc., Etc. courteous staff, clean

This is pretty much a super-sized Asian supermarket in the heart of the Inner Richmond. Here youll find headless fish, still writhing with freshness; (sometimes) tortoises lounging around in crates. If gory/questionable seafood isnt your thing, check out the fresh produce on the right-side building, and myriad Asian snacks on the left.

They have everything from butchery, seafood, frozen food, fresh veggies, chilled section, snacks and asian cooking ingredients. They sell alcohol, seasoning ranging from chinese, japanese, indonesian, filipino, malaysian. Just be patient as the supermarket is very busy and it takes a while to get around the aisles but its worth it!

This is one of my favorite store in san fransisco. They sell lots of Indonesian items such as cooking spices, instant noodles, ready to drink beverages etc. Next to it, there is wet market, selling fishes, seafoods, poultry, meats and produces. Paid Parking is plenty. You just need to walk couple blocks.

This place is pretty awesome because it has almost everything you could want from an asian super market. We come here to get ingredients for Shabu shabu. The shabu meat quality is quite poor and is always frozen instead of just refridgerated. All the other stuff though is great!

Best selection Chinese supermarket in the city. Has good section of meat and fish too. Has pretty much everything Chinese and a bunch of Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese ingredients too. Good prices for produce and fruits, although not quite as cheap as Mi Tierra in the mission

Good Asian grocery store, but their items are slightly pricer than other places. Its fairly clean and they mark everything clearly for pricing, but some vegetables can look a little past their prime. Sometimes they are unwilling to cut meat, which Im still not sure why....
