In all my time living in San Francisco, one cannot imagine how many times Ive past here and not recognized it. As an assignment forced me to realize certain places this this one, this fabric company is the most delightful that I decided to shop inside. Not to mention it is in a very established location (downtown!). Fabric? Oh plenty, check it out yourself! Now about the workers... nothing out of the usual. If theyre busy with another person, wait your turn and hopefully get an audience with them. Sometimes when things get too hectic and so much people, dont be afraid to ask for help or attempt to find a free person. However, for the most part, if they arent busy, theyll ask you if you need any help and help direct you to the correct floor. They are also, for the most part, very outgoing and easy to talk to and relate: adding a finishing plus to the great customer service. Great shop? Yes. Would I recommend it to others? Most definitely. Would I shop here again? I have a feeling I will come here more often in the future.

I could literally get lost in here for hours. Plenty of high-end fabrics, notions, embellishments, etc. I walked out empty-handed because I couldnt decide on what I really needed or just wanted. Its definitely a sewists heaven on earth! Set aside at least an hour or two if you plan to visit, and you might want to bring a friend for moral support or just help holding all the things you find. Oh, and bring a big wallet too because youll need it for the high price tags. Unfortunately I felt a bit uncomfortable under the watchful eyes of the staff. I honestly cant imagine what they might have been thinking about me, maybe theyve had to deal with a lot of riff-raff? Hopefully the next time I visit it wont feel so awkward...

Four floors of all things textile. Things are pricey, but they have hard to find prints and fabrics. They also have ribbons, appliques, feathers, buttons, and rhinestones. A tiny bit of notions. Service varies from helpful and friendly, to aloof-- but most are friendly. Some staff are more knowledgeable than others. They dont have a modern system, unfortunately, so if you want to go back for something you best have a swatch. Having the tag information means nothing apparently. Also a bummer that they dont have online shopping. Very old fashioned style business, but worth a visit for the unique finds.

Love the store itself and the warm and friendly greeting from the staff on the first floor, but the woman behind the counter on the 3rd floor sours the wonderful experience here. Time and time again (including this afternoon), she differentiates how she treats and talks to minority customers. No greeting before or after my transaction, but the white lady behind me? Totally a different story. 2 stars since I probably will go back to get any special and hard to find item, and her "-cism" is her issue not mine, but no more than that as we all should be treated equally and nobody deserves mis-treatment.

Britex is worth a trip for fabrics and notions, especially if you have a special project in mind, although it can also be a little overwhelming. The sales staff is extremely helpful and knowledgable, if you dont let yourself be intimidated. Theyve helped me out of many sewing problems, and guided me to the right fabrics for given projects. The store is organized by floor - first floor is lace, wool and silk; second is home dec, cottons, etc; third is remnants and "other" and fourth is trims and notions. If you want bargains, head to the remnants floor; you wont find many elsewhere.

The employees here are some of the most helpful people I have ever conversed with across any service industry. The fabrics are pricier than what you would find in a warehouse but the quality and excusivity is well worth the cost for some of their unique textiles. I would suggest going here for specialty fabrics and metal enclosures because you will not be able to find most of these items anywhere else. This is an absolute 5 stars from someone who has visited hundreds of stores from around the world.

A San Francisco institution. When I was growing up my mom always talked about the fabled Britex. It does not disappoint. Four levels of beautiful fabric and notions. Very few discounts and definitely not cheap. Stacks of liberty of London , cashmere wovens, silks, cottons, and laces galore. If Im feeling particularly fancy one day Ill head to Britex and leave with their black and white bag full of goodies.

Very average selection and overpriced. I think the people who love this place have never been to a fabric store before, and especially not one anywhere outside the US. Britex has a wide variety of materials, but the selection and quality within each category isnt great. If you have a real project and know what type of material you want but perhaps just not what color, this is not the place for you.

....Wow. I really do not like this place. Nothing like the fabric stores I had in the midwest.... This place is overpriced. Its always hot in there. And lastly, THEY SELL NO FABRIC PAINTS OR DYES. Really?. What kind of sucky fabric store manages to offer every single unnecessary thing you Dont need, yet doesnt even sell the slightest bit of fabric manipulation tools?? Please.

How did I not know about this place? Every fabric, button, feather, detail you could ever want. Gorgeous space. Customer service leaves a little to be desired as the overwhelming estrogen overload leaves the space a little tense but its really Disneyland for the creative & such a SF staple and absolute gem.

Went in on a busy Saturday evening very close to the stores closing time. I had very minimum knowledge about sawing ... Dione was very patient and listened to all my questions. She gave me a great suggestion and picked right fabric for my need.. Thank you for giving me the confidence. I will be back.

Sometimes its frustrating to enter a store without having any knowledge of what to look for. The people at Britex listened to me, what I wanted and gave me the knowledge. The prices are higher than other places, but what you get for good customer service and knowledge is priceless.

I love shopping here because they offer a huge variety of fabric, ribbon, and tools. Its my go to place when I need something for my halloween costumes. The prices vary a lot though so just be careful. The staff is very knowledgeable so just ask if you need help picking something.

Quite pricy fabric, compared to other stores stocking the same range. Store isnt laid out the best for browsing, better if you have exactly what you want in mind. Lots of staff eager to help, but felt that we had to explain we were just browsing every few minutes
