I love this shop! I am a local in Paso Robles. Ive shopped here for about 3 years now and their fabrics are unique. Some fabrics are very pricey. I would ask the prices of each constantly and someone is normally there to help answer your questions. Be careful and make sure you remember where you found the fabric, how much it is and watch it at check out, because it can be easily mistaken for a different price at check out. Just watch your purchase carefully to get the quoted price you watched for. Ive had good experiences here and one or two bad experiences. The bad was when there were 3 workers and probably 3 groups of customers in the store, at this time, I needed my selected fabric to be cut and I did not get an acknowledgement or a "Ill be with you in a few," I got very irritated, but stuck it out ( I know sometimes its the customers they are waiting on that cause delay ), but this irritation could have been avoided with just an acknowledgment. When I was finally helped, the workers are always super nice and sweet. I hope that the store reads some of these reviews and take note in some of the customers would like better customer service. My experiences here are mainly great! Online sales are at good prices, discounts are available, sales and store pick up options. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful, always nice. I would like to see improvement on store customer etiquette as well. I realize how busy an online business must be, however, a customer in front of you should be just as important. Overall, fabrics are cute and rare for the area we live in and are worth checking it out if you have a special project coming up!

Birch Fabrics/Fabric Worm is one of my favorite fabric shops, both in person and on-line. My first visit to the bricks-and-mortar store was about a year ago, when a friend and I were shopping our way down the coast, and we loved it so much we made a point to stop there on our way back north. The shop is bright and airy and cheerful, the shop staff were friendly, helpful, and extremely tolerant of my urge to dig through their not-ready-for-sale remnants, and the fabric selection was fun - I pretty much blew my fabric budget for the month in there, and I didnt have a single episode of buyers remorse when I got back home! On top of that, Cynthia made me feel right at home as we chatted about all the cool stuff already in the shop and the great stuff soon-to-be-arriving - I could have hung out there for hours. (Well, actually, we did hang out there for hours.) Aside from the warm welcome we received in the store, Ive had great experiences with ordering from the on-line shop. The selection is great; the prices are competitive; my orders always arrive within a day or two, with a personal note from the staff; and the Birch Fabric girls have been really helpful with personalizing bundles and helping me organize gift certificates. I wish they were my local store, but since they arent, Im really happy to be able to shop with them from a distance.

Beautiful fabrics, awful service. I have never written a bad review, but the experience I just had at this store is something others should be aware of. The lady who opened this store, whom, I believe is who cut my fabric, should stay in the online business and out of person to person retail. She was rude, short and completely cold. None of their "scraps" or loose fat quarters are marked or packaged & when she got to my stack she asked demandingly where I got them.... Which was from several baskets. Im sorry, if Im not supposed to take them to buy, then dont have them out! And mark them for goodness sakes, Im just trying to giver her business. Furthermore their invisible online customers were farrrrrr more important than those standing in front of her, heaven forbid she offers service! About a quarter of their material "for sale" was stacked up all over every single cutting table, with order sheets on top, apparently not available for us. She should hole up in a wear house where rent is cheap & she doesnt have to "deal" with customers. Save your time & go somewhere else to have a happy shopping experience.

I believe this store also does alot of online order fullfillment, which Im assuming is why I have had such different experiences. The first 3 or so times I went in, I was greeted, then promptly ignored. Each time the staff were walking around trying to fulfill orders and I was treated like an inconvience (staff was short and abrupt when I was asking questions) and like I was in the way, so I left without purchasing anything. I went again a few days ago and the staff in there was fabulous, they were having a great time, and were clearly busy but they each took time to make sure I was okay, and check to see if I needed help. I was able to comfortably spend 30ish minutes browsing without feeling rushed, or like I was an inconvience. This time I did purchase fabric, and I will definitely be back. Update 4/12/15: I totally understand the need for lunch breaks, but its frustrating to try to go make a purchase, having called and checked the operating times, only to arrive and have the entire store closed for lunch.. if a customer calls, perhaps it should be mentioned that youll be closing the store for lunch....

I know Cynthia personally and I know how passionate she is about her business. I have first hand knowledge of the way she handles her business and how she manages her employees. The review posted by this "one" customer "sunnydays" is ridiculous and unfounded, and more than likely posted by a competitor of hers or in the saddest case, someone that expects a level of service that would never satisfy them anyway. Apparent by the "couldnt borrow a pen in time" comment. Pretty obvious. Cynthia loves her company and her customers and employs several women at her store that share her passion for fabric and always give their best even under the busiest of times. The person that wrote this review should be ashamed, if you had a problem "borrowing a pen", which I doubt, consider the feelings of the owner and her employees that make hundreds of customers happy every month. Yes Im posting my name because I have nothing to hide. Jason Rector Central Coast resident for 30 years.

Although known as a internet store, Birch has grown into a wonderful fabric shop. Love walking into the store!Staff are friendly, the store has a bright airy atmosphere. Diverse fabrics of 100% organic cotton, canvas , double gauze, voile, and of course pre cuts , and a great selection of the major quilting manufacturers we all have grown to love. They offer clothing patterns as well. Some embroidery , notions. You never know what you will find at each visit. They now have wonderful patterns for art quilts check them out. Great newsletter with lots of stuff happening. Stop by and check it out!

I ordered online from birch fabrics store fabricworm and had an AWFUL experience! My order was not only lost (waited nearly 2 months) but was unable to find anyone at the store to even help me try to figure out where my order was. For the over priced cost of the fabrics you would then the service could be fantastic but that was far from the case. I wont be ordering from them ever again. From what I have read on here it doesnt sound like the in person shopping experience is that much smoother. Maybe this lady should focus more on the customers.
