I can only speak about two things here as that is all that I have had: there lamb and the rub they use for the lamb. I live out of state now but can say that I still tell the story of the first time I had there lamb chops. Lets just say I have yet to find its equal in restaurant/butcher..., its really that good. Its the kind of thing that now I go out and order the lamb some where other then Papes and take one bite and proceed to slam my fist down on the table cursing PAPES as I have again wasted money not buying it from them and being disappointed about getting it some where else. The second thing is there house rub. I have used that stuff on everything, meat (obviously), veg., pasta, you name it. I was going to add it to my apple pie but my wife grabbed my hand and gave me the look, so I cant speak for desserts, but everything else you good. Thanks so much Papes and Ill be hitting you up next time Im in SF/BA

This place is a Bay Area gem for fresh meat! I went on my first trip in spring 2007 and am returning in 2008. The only reason I discovered the place is multiple recommendations from various Greeks in the Bay Area. Must admit I am rather particular about the lamb I buy for Greek Orthodox Easter dinner each year, however we had an amazing feast. Do not be surprised when you arrive as the place does not look like much from the outside (or even inside for that matter), but the butchery section is great and to the point. I believe lamb is one of their specialties - fresh from Stockton, CA usually (*never* frozen).

Ok, found my butcher. Took me a couple years before stumbling into this butcher and wine shop. Very clean space. I purchased my whole organic chicken here and took suggestions from the butcher as to which already pre-marinated chicken breasts I should buy. While, waiting as the butcher cut up my whole chicken and packaged it, I spoke with another butcher cleaning the largest prawns that Ive ever seen in my life! If you are looking on where to buy your seafood or steaks...Come in here!! And, Im sure theyll even help you find the right wine to pair for the dinner that you are preparing.

The only place I trust to get good meat. I always pick up my filet mignon here and the fish has always been fresh. Its definitely worth the trip to this spot. Worth mentioning is the truffle butter they sell here. The price is great and its crazy good. Edit: Im going to go out on a limb here and say everything is good here. Chilean Sea Bass, pork tenderloins, NY steak and dry aged, bacon, pork belly, chicken breast, and the giant prawns. I seriously no longer buy meat any where else. You can even get pig back fat!

First time in and Guy greeted us warmly and was very knowledgeable and educational. We bought a birthday gift for a friend (picking up an aged hunk-o-meat later this month) & a 21 day aged rib eye for us to "test" - we followed Guys instructions and had the best steak with the easiest prep! Taking some of the Steves special sausage to try with our friends - cant wait!

First of all, the staff here are top notch. They are knowledgeable, friendly and would make any cuts and marinate you want. Excellent place to come for BBQ or camping trips. The space feels clean, and now has a huge wine section. They also do dry aged steaks. Why would you pay top dollars to go to a steak house when you can come get your own cut and grill it yourself?

This is hands-down the ONLY place in the Bay Area that is still an authentic butcher shop. Holidays like Christmas can be very very busy, so I advise ordering for pickup at least 1-2 days before otherwise parking can be impossible and the line will go round the block. The beef in particular is simply the best, you cant go wrong here!

This is definitely my place for lamb. Ive come here every year for the past 10 years. Its well worth the drive from San Jose. The guys are top notch. I enjoy coming. Ive watch them grow from a little deli/meat counter to this beautiful upscale market. Perfect for Millbrae. Ill be there this week for my Easter Lamb.
