One of the top outfitting and adventure travel shops in the world. Intimate, local, family owned and operated business. Experienced, knowledgeable, well-trained, personable and friendly staff from all over the planet who provide unparalleled customer service and advise. High-quality boots, clothing and gear, as well as uncommon and unique items rare to other stores. Approachable management that will go the extra mile to help you get what you need. A broad array of rental equipment. Great return or exchange policies. Great seasonal sales and clearance items. The store is the place of choice for the weekend warrior to the professional adventurer. Wether you are trail running in Griffith Park or summiting Kilimanjaro, bouldering in Joshua Tree or trekking through the jungles of Indochina, backpacking in the Sierra-Nevada backcountry or ice-climbing on Denali, vacationing to Western Europe or going to work in remote and austere environments, this is the place that has what you need to get you there and back.

Adventure 16 is a great store with a great story and great staff. They have a good, albeit pricey, selection of outdoor apparel and gear. They are definetely one of if not the best outdoor/wilderness gear outfitter in the Los Angeles area. The staff is knowledgable and always willing to help. The are not only knowledgeable about the gear but many of them are also very knowledgeable of the Los Angeles area itself and what it has to offer. Despite the cost of the gear in the store, in comparison to what you can get much of it for online, I continue to go back because each time I go back I learn more about the Los Angeles area trails, and because the salespeople offer great insight about what gear is actually useful and what is not. They helped me figure out exactly what I needed before I went trekking in Nepal and I found that I was extremely well prepared. It is this human element which makes it worth the cost.

Very knowledgeable staff. Prices are reasonable but worth it since you will be helped to the right product not just the highest priced commission. Good selection and great vibe. Update: I have always had very favorable experience with Adventure 16...until this last 6 months or so. They seem to be hiring less knowledgeable and far less polite people. I have always prefered to buy from them vs. online for two reasons. 1. I get to hold and try on the product 2. If I ever have to return an item. Approach shoes I bought 9 months ago are peeling away despite little use (one full day). I call and they basically tell me it is my fault. Guy didnt stop there but more or less called me a liar. REI and Amazon, you have my undying loyalty. There is a reason brick & mortar are going out of business.

Last night was my seventh time shopping. I am not a big online shopper, but the prices on the gears bag I wanted were the same there as they were at this REI so I biked 10 minutes to here. The selection and staff was abundant. I was approached by a gentleman who seemed to know everything about every bag they had. He also provided me advice on safe workout at the beach, as this summer will be my first time doing it. They have an interesting membership program that I got for 99 cents since my purchase was over $29, so I will be shopping here for all of my adventurous events.

I love this chain of stores. I think they have five locations. Their stuff is first-class; the people are friendly and knowledgeable. I have bought outdoor gear there for years. I have a Patagonia fleece sweater that has to be 30 years old that still looks good, that I bought at their Costa Mesa store. I have to say it isnt cheap, but if you want something that lasts, and you want good service, this is the place.

I love this place! The staff is always really helpful and is always there to help you pick the right choice for all your outdoor needs. I wanted to go to Burning Man, and the staff there hasnt gone, but they know of the conditions for camping in the desert, so they pointed me in the right direction in terms of tent, sleeping bag, and camping stove. Great store! Highly recommended!

Have been going to A16 for three decades. As everyone else says - the best selection of the best gear by the best most knowledgable people. And whatever the slight difference in cost over some internet discount site is well worth the value of custom fitting and expert direction you receive by seeing and comparing and inspecting an item to get exactly what you need.

Pricey, but worth it... just about everything one could need for the great outdoors under one roof (along with some pleasant surprises). A repeat customer for over 20-yrs, and have never regretted a single purchase. All of the camping gear is still in great shape; in fact, still have some corduroy shirts from the mid-90s (tried, tested and true)!

In what is probably the most surprising blend of location and services provided, Adventure 16 is a goldmine for camping in West LA. They rent all kinds of gear, which is convenient when you live in a small space, and the staff super knowledgeable, and dont make you feel ridiculous for asking questions.

Adventure 16 is a sporting goods store without the usual sports stuff. It caters specifically to outdoor activities like backpacking, climbing, hiking, and camping. The sales are awesome, the staff is super friendly, and the incense is a great touch -- smells like a wood burning stove up in there!

never shop in Adventure 16 Outdoor again, the prices are a lot more expensive than othe outdoor store, I return Swiss army knife , in original bag, with a receipt had to wait 10 minutes to get a refund , worst customer service, run by few kids

This is a great store. Excellent, earnest, highly knowledgeable staff and good prices. Great selection of all the best outdoor gear. If you need something like footwear that needs expert fitting and a wide selection, this is the place to go.

The best outdoor store in the LA area. While REI caters to the casual hiker/camper, A16 caters to the hardcore adventurer. This is the only place I can find high quality mountaineering gear, topographical maps, and winter camping gear.

Tends to be a little expensive, but their inventory has some very high quality gear for all kinds of activities.Good selection of smaller trinkets and accessories too, I got a nice cap for my Klean Kanteen at the one in San Diego.

Established retail store to buy travel and outdoor equipment. A well-trained and knowledgeable staff. Stock quality merchandise. Not many of these types of retails available anymore. Support them to keep them around.

This place is a perfect spot for all your outdoor needs -hard to find in this town. They have all the camping, hiking, and outdoor gear you could imagine and the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful too.

Great store for all you outdoor gear. Staff are knowledgeable about products and can help you choose which product will best fit your needs. You get high quality products for a higher than usual price.

I like their stuff but I can go to REI and buy the same stuff for less plus if you join the co-op you get money back you can use. Their customer service is terrible.
