Below is the correspondence that Ive sent to The North Face twice. I am still waiting for a reply... To whom this may concern, My name is Tony Torres, and I would like to express my shock and disappointment at the treatment I received while shopping at your outlet store in Berkeley the evening of October 3rd. While I felt that most of the sales floor employees were respectful and helpful enough, I felt that the store manager (or the person I assume was the manager on duty) was rude to the point of almost seeming hostile. Yesterday evening, after church services, I decided to visit the Berkeley outlet for the first time because I have been meaning to buy a new jacket in preparation for an upcoming string of business trips. The mass ran a bit longer than I had expected, and by the time I arrived at the store a couple of minutes prior to closing time. I figured that though I wouldnt be buying anything that evening, I would at least have the opportunity to briefly browse the selection and get an idea of pricing and selection. When I entered, I was told by one of the sales staff that the store would be closing in 5 minutes. I acknowledged him and said that I just wanted to take a quick look around the store. After a short while, another sale person informed me that they would be closing out the cash registers, and any items I wished to purchased would have to be rung-up before then. I told her that I would not be making any purchases that evening and that it was OK for them to close out the registers. I assumed that I would be allowed to at least browse for a couple more minutes before leaving - especially since I had just spotted a jacket that I was (or still am) interested in. However, as soon as the salesperson informed the staff up front that it was OK to close out the registers, the manager barked back that I would have to leave the store immediately or they could not close the cash registers until I had gone. The salesperson who I had just spoken to sheepishly apologized to me as if she, herself, was embarrassed at what the manager had said. I left the store feeling embarrassed as if I had done something to upset the manager. I would just like to know if this is standard store policy for dealing with your customers. I realize that North Face goods are not cheap, but are of the highest quality. In addition to the quality that the prices demand, I would also expect a certain level of customer service and attention to the customers needs. Considering that I can purchase a jacket for much less at any department store, I would have expected more from a company such as The North Face. I would just like your corporate management to know that your employees actions are not only reflective of one location, but are indicative of the company/brand as a whole.

I feel like north face jackets are quintessential to norcal like rainbow sandals are to socal. All my north face jackets, Ive gotten here because they have the best deals! It helps that I buy it off season but still, this place is hugeeeee and they have so many jackets, so great selection. Upon first glance, it doesnt look that big because the parking lot is SUPER TINY. Dont even try because itll probably be full, your best chance is street parking. But when you enter, its a warehouse of jackets and wall to wall you see jackets everywhere. They also sell accessories and shoes but definitely not as big as their outerwear collection. The store is split into two rooms, the first containing most of the adult outerwear and then the second room has the kids, shoes, and the rest of the adult outerwear. I got my black fleece jacket for $50 and it was originally $100 :D So that was a great deal for me! The only thing is that the jackets do tend to come in weird colors and common sizes MIGHT be hard to find but I never had a problem. Its an outlet so dont expect the same stuff as a regular store. I would definitely recommend getting your jackets here. Spring time is usually a great time to find ski/snowboarding stuff because its going out of season. I went in early May and there was a ton of snow gear you can get on sale. Otherwise, if you ever wanted a north face jacket..then shop here!

My expectations were much higher, especially reading the other reviews. I put 2 stars and not 1 because, thats right there are 40% off deals. But the quality is average. Its Nike for the cold weather. People come here because the brand is hype, not because of the quality clothes. I wonder if some of the clothes there arent produced just for this low quality shop, because there piles of identical jackets with every sizes. There are very, very few Summit Series items. And even so, the ones which were available here arent top notch. I usually wear Mammut or Arcteryx stuff so maybe I am used to very good quality. Anyway, I couldnt find a matching quality here. Besides this, dont even waste your time coming here it you dont have the build of a yeti or a grizzli. Most things I saw started at size L (the US L). And parking there is a nightmares on a Saturday. There are 8 parking slots for probably 200 customers when was there.

i have a horriable experience today. i am looking for a jacket for a 9 years old girl and i found one with tag price of 43.99. this is the last one on the shelf and exactly the size i am looking for. i went to the register. The cashier sanned that barcode and noticed thats somethkng wrong.. A YOUNG ASIAN manager come by and tell me she canot sell me at the tag price because .some customer removed the tag from other clothes and stick to this jacket. SHE didnt mention anything related to sorry and her attitude is saying"you are a shoplifter". BTW, the price tag is intact and no sign of dent or fold. TERRIABLR EXPERICE. DONT COME TO THIS STORE..

My final stop in the search for hiking pants and was able to find a decent pair at a great deal ($35). Surprisingly busy for a weekday morning and the store was well-stocked with a variety of North Face items. Pricing was a bit confusing as there were lots of “50% extra off” and “take 30% off lowest price” signs throughout the store, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the pants I chose were actually more than 50 percent off the lowest price. Yes, I realize that this is part of the outlet pricing model, but at the same time, these pants were still $40 cheaper than comparable styles at REI and Sports Basement.

Come here for a true outlet experience. The store is well kept and there are plenty of staff on hand to answer questions or run to the back and search for a particular item in your size that might not be on the floor. Employees smile and interact but do not hover. If youre lucky enough to catch a sale...yikes! Youll start disregarding those price tags and grabbing quality gear by the boat load! Parking on the other hand can be frustrating as the lot holds maybe 8 cars and your left to fend for street parking.

I dont want to tell too many people about this place, because its so amazing. You really get unbelievable deals on North Face gear - and its exactly the same quality stuff they have at REI and other corporate stores. The staff is the most friendly and knowledgeable Ive ever seen at an outlet store and you always find something that will help you get through the winter months. Seriously awesome- and worth the commute from SF and beyond.
