Rant: We went to Ozark Outdoors today in the Heights neighborhood of Little Rock. We wanted to exchange a gift that Id selected incorrectly. No problem, they didnt have it, but we could order it. Without any preamble, the "lady" who was helping us made a comment to my husband, "you know you cant put those directly on the campfire." Aaron said, "Oh, really, why?" She said, "because theyll explode." Aaron said, "you mean like fireworks, just think Jules, we could be carrying fireworks in our backpacks." The "lady" got all offended and started mouthing off about how she was just trying to keep us safe and how she didnt think it was funny what Aaron was saying. He was just being Aaron. She wouldnt drop it. Finally, he looks at her and says, "you know Im joking, right?" She said, "I do now." Aaron said, "never mind, Ill just take my money back, and we will shop online from your competitors from here on out." The thing that disappoints me the most about this exchange is that in spite of a few instances like this one at that store, generally with the same employee (which I make every attempt to AVOID) we (I) have chosen to shop locally and always tried to do business with them whenever they had the product we wanted or needed. Since weve become avid campers and backpackers theyve supplied a great deal of our necessities at that store. Before that, it was anything to do with boating, kayaking, snow skiing, fishing, the works! In other words, weve spent a ton of money there! Ever since the Fly Shop that used to be on Bowman Road closed weve shopped at Ozark Outdoor Supply. We made this very clear while we were getting our refund. When the manager/owner of the store finally clued in that there was a problem (he was less than 10 feet away the whole time) the lady said, "I lost another customer for you, you can fire me later." The guy just mumbled an apology and acted like he had no clue what to do next. We left the store dumbfounded. At the very least the manager/owner of a LOCAL store, it seems, would have directed his employee to apologize for her rude behavior. AND maybe say something like "let me help you with this." Or better yet, the other "coworker/employee" standing against a rack behind us watching the whole exchange might have stepped in and said, "Oh, can I help with this {Jane}. Here, sir, let me help you get this taken care of." BUT NO, NOTHING! Very Sad, Very disconcerting!

I cant say enough good things about this place. After going to the huge bass pro and not really finding the brands or items I wanted, (especially trail maps!) A friend suggested this shop as the ultimate place in little rock for outdoors stuff. I called ahead to check on their inventory, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable on the phone and in person. When I asked about trail maps. They pulled out a huge bin of local trails. It was glorious, especially after bass pro had none. Not only that, but the clerk suggested the trail I wanted to hike was going to be flooded out with the recent rains. I gave him my qualifiers, (a loop, water nearby, a waterfall) and he named a nearby trail and gave me some great tips on the surrounding area. Awesome staff, awesome product, awesome location. Parking is a bit tight here. Parallel street parking that was all taken when i arrived, or in the lot of the nearby kroger, I guess.

This place is a treasure! My friend and I arrived in town with a week to spend in the Ozarks but no plan for what to do or where to go. We showed up at the welcoming door of Ozark Outdoor Supply, and the friendly and knowledgeable people working set us up with a new backpack, a compass, gas canisters, maps, and some other supplies. Even better, then they opened up those maps with us and regaled us with stories of their own trips and great places to check out. In an hour there, they helped us plan out our week — and their advice led us to an incredible week backpacking through some beautiful and less-traveled spots. From the backpack fit to the personal experiences, its the kind of thing you cant get buying gear online, and it made me so happy to have found them. Oh, and on our way back to the airport, they let us drop off our used gas canisters too.

Great selection for the square footage. My favorite part is that they give a discount to Boy Scouts (certainly those who reached Eagle). The staff tends to, in my experience, seem like they know more about rock climbing than my interests but I cannot honestly discount a shop for that. Ive never had a bad customer experience even when just perusing the newest outdoor kit.

Great selection, and a staff that is not only knowledgeable but is willing to recommend what is most appropriate for your use, even if they could sell you something more expensive instead. These folks are in it for the long run, so they want to do it right. And they do.

Great selection and very knowledgeable staff. A bit of a mark up on products but can be worth it especially on packs when youre getting started. Plus its always good to support local business when acceptable.

Quintessential professionals working there that bend over backwards to help the customer. They are also kind, and thoughtful people, with great products, and good value for the buyer.

Walked into 8 staffers staring at us while We came in, not one hello. Prices are comparable if not cheaper online. I was really bummed to find this place was like this.

Best outdoors store in LR area. Its basically a mom and pop shop, and thats the best part. Personal service by people who actually use the products theyre selling.

Excellent selection of outdoor, backpacking, and climbing gear. Kind of expensive but they seem to only carry quality gear so its worth the price.

I wish the store was bigger. You cannot always find what you need to find due to the cramped nature of the store. There is a lot of variety.
