I visited the Onalaska store to view and inquire about a particular brand and type of weapon that I had seen on the Gander Mountain Web site. There were several other customers at the firearms counter when I arrived, but I was greeted within 5 to 10 minutes. Firearms Associate Jameson quickly retrieved the weapon in which I was interested. He was obviously very knowledgeable regarding that brand and type of firearm and thoroughly explained why it was not the best choice for my intended use. His reasoning was sound and I was pleasantly surprised that he made no attempt to sell a more expensive weapon. During a visit to the firearms department on a previous date when I did make a purchase, I was assisted by Keith D. He was also very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful with the process. The Wisconsin Concealed Carry class at the Gander Mountain Academy on 12/4/15 was well worth the cost and time invested. The lead instructor (Robin) provided a good balance of emphasis between the applicable state statutes, practical issues pertaining to carrying a concealed weapon (appropriate use of lethal force, holster choices, interaction with law enforcement officers, etc.), and home defense considerations. Both Robin and Jameson (a second instructor who was available during the class) provided knowledgeable answers to questions from the attendees. The Gander Mountain firearms instructors who assisted with the live-fire qualification process were also very pleasant and helpful. I would definitely consider further training at the Academy.

The managements treatment of a over qualified employee candidate was unbelievably awful. As a veteran the way I was treated and sent on circle chases to track down managers, who seemed to have forgotten their own schedules and when they will be in, and even to have multiple standard procedure interviews (even with the Store Owner) spaced out over 1 month when I was told my qualifications meant I would need very minimal training in my department and could start after the weekend. Also using phrases like "We cannot wait for you to be apart of the team, your qualifications from the Marine Corps are outstanding. Well talk tomorrow about when you can come in and start your training." Hmmm seemed like everyone forgot about that one vet they were gonna hire that one day. "He keeps calling asking for the manager man... tell him Im not here man I gotta restock stuff tonite and I dont wanna be here too late man." Whose running this show Cheech and Chong? Glad I spent 1 yr sleeping in my own fighting hole eating nothing but Afghanistan dirt and dehydrated food to be treated like this. Never spending a single penny at that store ever again. Oh and I wont forget to mention in the middle of my interview with the Store Owner, an investigative lawyer called him asking him personal information regarding an extensive lawsuit he was about to face. Maybe i didnt want to work there after all..

Special thanks to Evan and the store manager yesterday. I was having trouble assembling a crossbow that had been returned by Ten Point following a warranty claim. Evan and his manager put it together for me as that is not my strong suit. As it turned out a part was missing so the store and Evan in particular got a replacement bolt for another bow to assemble onto mine so I could hunt today. Unfortunately something was wrong with the bolt. It did not fit and my planned hunt was off. Evan took the bow and was sending it back to Ten Point for me on a rush basis to get it fixed. On my way home Ten Point called to say the company and Gander did not want me to miss my hunt and I should go back to the store and they had a new bow for me. I was able to take a practice shot and at 30 yards bulls eye as Evan had already shot it for me on the Gander range. Ill not soon forget the hoops Evan, the store manager and Ten Point jumped through to help me get back into the woods. Many thanks Evan, Gander and Ten Point!

Stopped by the archery department to have them look at my bow. Ive been having trouble with my react sight. Tyler didnt seem to want take the time to actually help me and had no knowledge of the product (which I had purchased there.) Instead he focused on my rest not being lined up. I got a new rest which didnt come with bolts and he couldnt find small bolts so he could only fit one of my old ones in there. I went home and shot and Im shooting even lower than I was before. Im very disappointed in all the money Ive spent at gander to upgrade my bow and now I can barely hit a target. From now on Ill be shopping for archery products elsewhere.

Terrible! My husband just came home with my 2year old son and I asked my son if he had fun shopping with daddy and he said "mean people mommy" WHAT? My husband went to exchange approximately 20 dollars worth of fishing equipment..since I tossed his reciept not knowing..he just bought it last week and the man was not only rude but basically said he wont look up the purchase (he knows the exact day and time he was there) or give an in store credit and that he has to keep it ..and to "do what you gotta do". So rude that my 2 year old noticed!!!! I have never been anywhere they wont at least give you in store credit?

Ive pretty much stopped coming here unless I really have to. Generally the service is poor, especially in the firearm area. Usually they dont have what I am looking for and if they do it costs a lot more than anywhere else. Though, there was a very nice and knowledgeable guy who helped me pick out a turkey call, but he was more the exception than the rule. Occasionally this place shines, but its like a meteor...you have to be looking in the right place at the right time and it doesnt last long.

Absolutely terrible place to shop. I cant think of anything there that is fairly priced especially the firearms. The guy behind the firearm counter is extremely opinionated and pushy. He has lost several sales for Gander Mountain on my behalf as well as anyone who asks me where a good place to shop for guns is. Every time I go in there I just leave frustrated and annoyed.

Great Store! Why? The people ! Very helpful, knowledgeable, and sincere. Plus, the guys behind the counter like to ask about your interests. Now I know this is normally an up-sell tactic, but when you find yourself sharing in conversation about life experiences relating to the specific product, it makes a big difference when making a decision.

Going out of business....wish I can give this place a negative five stars. I bought a defective product from them and they would not exchange it. Bought a $40 pair of shorts that had a broken button. They told me to get lost. Good thing this place is closing down. Im still going to boycott Gander Outdoors because of this.

The experience is Ok depending on who is working. I think they need to up the ante on the price match policy. Not allot of competition in this area. Mabey Many big retailer names for an online price match. Ordering alot allot of stuff they carry through online sites instead of the store.
