John Menards personality shines in his stores. I recently read a Milwaukee publication with an article about John. To sum it up, it didnt have a whole lot of positive things to say. From his militant methods to being greedy to being an extortionist. I am a contractor, I find very little in his store to be high quality products, middle of the road at best. The only products I purchase from Menards are the basics, studs, drywall, etc. Things I need to be true quality, I look elsewhere. Not to mention his employees. Most I find have no clue about the departments they service. One time I was looking for one little plumbing part. They had me going in circles for an hour. I finally said the hell with them and I found it myself within 10 minutes. They would have been better suited for fast food. Call me crazy, but if you gave your people some basic training on the departments they tend, it would increase efficiency. Granted, training is an expense. But at the rate they find products, it would save/make money in the end. Another time I was loading my truck, and I was struggling with some bulky items. I turned around when I had finished, and there was two employees staring at me, watching me struggle. Really? Obviously they werent to busy and not even a "can we help?".Theres some fantastic customer service for you. If those had been my employees, they may have been fired on the spot or at least disciplined. Its to bad the contractors service was nixed. Those guys at least had a clue. All in all if your looking for cheap products, this is the place. Dont expect anything beyond that though. You will be disappointed. The reason I only gave two stars, is that you can find good prices on basic products. Although, maybe I live on a different planet. I was taught the principle "that you can have the greatest products in the world at the lowest prices, but without great customer service, you have nothing".

I always shop here first, you can find things on sale 1/2 the time. Then if I dont see something nice I go to HD. Menards does lack selection in some areas but in others they have more. Lumber is best at Menards its le$$ and higher quality. I dont recommend you buy everything from them. But most things are good, like window treatments are less expensive however standard in stock windows suck. Carpeting doesnt compete with HD due to install costs. Love their automotive section you can pick up things like fuses, light bulbs at a huge discount, where else can you buy a trunk mounted battery for MB, BMW, Volvo, VW that type for $75 ??? same thing at a parts store is $130-200. Parking lot has enough spots. Staff is always new but I am OK with that due to lower prices its like Walmart of home improvement.

Menards is my one stop shop for anything when it comes to projects. We have completed projects in landscaping, fencing, brick laying, concrete driveway upkeep, security mailboxes, wooden decks, fire pits, garages, roofing, doors, locks, outdoor furniture, windows, kit-built sheds, lighting, safes, and small outdoor shelters. They carry just about every tool for a job that ranges from affordable to luxury, hand tool to powered machine plus the expendables. Majority of our tools and toys available in the arsenal are from Menards, and they held up well over the decade whether old or new or slightly abused. They have a limited area for cleaning, grocery, hunting, car, seasonals, and hauling too.

I was working with the associate getting ready to buy a patio door, then another customer asked the associate about a garage door opener or something like that and the associate never said anything word to us disappeared to help the other person. We will never step in to the Menards stores again. Lowes and Home Depot are more about customer service.

Have pretty everything you need for DIY. Staff may not know much about what sort of items to use and when, but they know where everything in the store is and are happy to help you find it, which is really helpful in a place that millions of products not always located in obvious spots.
