I called asking for an item that I thought Left Bank Books might carry. They answered the phone "Hello left Bank Books" and I asked about weather they carried chess clocks, I realized it was a shot in the dark, however, I have seen books stores carry items besides books before. After I asked weather they carried the item the employee responded, "Helooo, Left Bank Books", so I asked the question again and they repeated "Helooo, Left Bank Books", I now realized that the employee had heard my the fist time and was repeating herself as if saying, "catch the drift, its a book store". I was not sure at first weather that was her intention, so when I tried to ask for a straight answer to weather they had chess clocks or not, the employee hung up on me. I was going to call back and ask for the manager, but I realize it is the busy season and everyone is a little stressed. However, as a manager of retail I realize that sales can be especially stressful this time of year, but do not be rude to your customers and especially do not hang up on them. That is just bad business.

As an out of state and country book-lover, its always a treat to visit Seattle and stop into Left Bank Books. I was there recently and was intrigued by a book that I didnt purchase at the time. A week later, after I left Seattle, I was still thinking about it but didnt remember the title and though initially they had a hard time tacking down the title, they asked me to call back in 10 mins. I did so, and they had successfully managed to track it down. Thats service, if you ask me.

I seriously have nerd wood for this bookstore. Im not even a huge science fiction and horror fan and I still have nerd wood for this place. I love how helpful their employees are in finding the right book for you.Plus the fact that they specialize in only a couple of genres just pleases me to no end. I mean Borderlands Books is giving globalization and diversity the middle finger. I like your moxie, Borderlands and Ill be back soon.

They are OK, but I hardly go in in the last couple of years partly because the bustling crowd and the price range that is set a bit more than what they should be. Also, they proudly mark the thick black line on the side of books (the end of the pages). This really keeps us from reselling the books that we read and no longer need to keep. That is absurd and unkind.

They told my bf he cant have a backpack in the bookstore and tried to take it from him, which is very rude. Also there were women wearing purses and people with messenger bags and the worker didnt harass them. I didnt appreciate the workers attitude or the way this bookstore treats some of their customers.

The used books are all reasonably priced and are surprisingly in excellent condition. I picked up a paperback, pocket-sized (well not POCKET-sized but small enough to fit in my clutch) copy of Tom Left Bank Books Life with Woodpecker" (which is nearly impossible to find these days.

Neat little bookstore right outside the Public Market. Quiet place to get out of the crowds waiting for the fish tossing.
