im blown away by all the hating that google has aggregated for batdorf. goodness gracious. first acclamations, then defense. batdorf is great because theyve managed to get big without becoming complete jerks. theyre great because they roast a broad range of interesting beans in interesting ways. the big store is great because its super kid-friendly - big spaces to roam, an unassuming toy bucket, and a staff that doesnt get uppity when your toddler blocks the exits to the bar. as someone recently arrived from san francisco/oakland, i appreciate the fact that batdorf takes the wood to my bay area homesickness. to the critics: 1) cold coffee drinks: arguably all coffee is better tasted if stored and/or brewed at room temperature. if youre interested in ordering your favorite ten word long cold coffee drinks, head up the street to starbucks. none of downtown olys coffee shops have the blech youre looking for. 2) not all of us that sit around reading financial news at batdorf are snobs. its an unfortunate turn of fate that the "business" section of every major newspaper isnt titled "labor" - but thats the way the chips have fallen. plenty of us reading financial news are busy trying to make the world a better place. step off.

I ordered my favorite drink here: Carmel / Coconut Breve on Ice. I have never had a worse drink than I did at Batdorf & Bronson. The coffee shots they poured in were from a jug of old coffee (or flavoring?). My drink may not be a connoisseurs choice, but I still appreciate a good, fresh shot of espresso. Several days later I went to a drive through stand in Napavine. I watched her do the SAME THING with the OLD COFFEE shots. It made sense when the cup she handed me had the Batdorf & Bronson logo on it. The interior decorating at the capital way location was very pleasant. The coffee was TERRIBLE The price was as high or higher than Starbucks I rarely ever write negative reviews and Im not the kind of person who demands my money back or complains.....but for a $5.00 drink I expect the coffee to be fresh and delicious.

B & B makes the best latte I have had since I returned to live in the Great NW some 18 months ago. They start with their own espresso, add steamed milk and froth to enhance the espresso, not overwhelm it. I consider their main competitor to be Olympia Coffee Roasters at their 4th Ave. location. I did enjoy a few lattes there until I gave B & B a try. Also I prefer the casual and comfortable seating and friendly layout. Maybe Im just not hip enough for Olympia Coffee but I found the place too modern, too "cold" with the stainless steel feel and I did not feel welcome there. Will confess Im 63 but theres always a variety of people there. Staff is friendly, nice, gracious even. Also, a latte is cheaper than the going rate.

Its kind of surreal to walk into this place because although the coffee is undistinguished, the food is mediocre, and the service is downright rude, the place is nonetheless packed with fashionably attired people pounding down lattes while they surf the financial pages on their pricey little laptops. Maybe the trendy decor sucks them in. In downtown Seattle or Bellevue this would not be unusual but its the only place like it in Olympia. The Starbucks half a block away has friendly staff (and clientele), better service, and arguably better coffee; but most coffee joints in Olympia have definitely better coffee, along with better staff.

We happened into B&B on what started as a lovely spring day. It turned cold and we all (myself, husband, 2 daughters & dog) needed a warm up. My husband and dog stayed outside while we ordered. While trying to peruse the menu, my little one kept asking for a treat. Each time I said no, I explained remember, we cant have gluten. When it was our turn to order and we were at the counter - what a surprise! Treats & drinks all around. The staff was friendly, even offered me a cup of water for our dog. Pleasant chatting with the baristas for those who wanted to join in. GF friendly, kid friendly, even dog friendly :)

Flagship location! Batdorf & Bronson must have been two geniuses with coffee roasting, because their brew is by far the best Ive had. Try the dancing goats. This place has an entrance much like a lounge with couches and chairs, then a stairway that leads up to the bar counter with large tabletops and chairs for work space. Its a local favorite and even offered all around campus at Evergreen. The atmosphere here is homely and comforting. Great place to sit down and be productive ;-)

Fantastic local coffee shop. Clean, well lit, good quality menu items. Tip: the donuts are unmarked, but they are organic, vegan Mighty-O Donuts from Seattle! If all the frosted ones are gone, I got there first. They also carry some good quality, local packaged sandwiches and salads if you need a quick bite to go.

Vegan doughnuts from Mighty Os vegan bakery dunked in their dark roast coffee. Delicious! I come in every Sunday morning after my traditional mother-daughter run and the woman behind the counter, Crystal, knows my name now. So friendly! Customers like to people-watch, so dont be creeped out.

The slowest expresso ever - and not that great. It should be much better for the time it takes. Ive visited frequently when few customers are present. Two at the expresso bar, one cashier and still glacial service. Not the place to go if you have anywhere else to go.

The place has great atmosphere warm and inviting, the coffee was not good in my opinion. Could be a local palate it but does not agree with mine. The taste and smell was bitter and honestly tasted like the majority of generic coffee I have tasted throughout Washington.

Best coffee house in the north west. Great, attentive service with excellent coffee and a huge selection of coffee drinks and beans. Amazing atmosphere, rustic yet contemporary, warm and bright. Good place to meet up or get your morning coffee.

Superb coffee - they must train the staff with exquisite care. The lattes are so perfectly crafted that they dont even need a lick of sugar to make them great. I like chatting with the coffee experts when theres nobody in line behind me.

We stopped in for the first time last Sunday. OH WOW! I had a half decaf iced mocha. Hubby had a mocha with their homemade whipped cream. It was the best coffee weve ever had! I only wish it wasnt 30 miles from our house!

My favorite almond milk lattes. Drip coffee isnt burnt like Starbucks, but not so light that it just tastes like fruit. Well balanced. Their pastries are made by San Francisco street Bakery and are excellent.

I randomly ended up going here on a trip to Olympia. The prices are kind of high, but I believe it was the best latte Ive ever had. The baristas put a lot of care into the making of it. Highly recommended!
