I used to love going to Big Lots for some steap deals on brand name and/or quality product. Unfortunately, over the last couple of years, I find myself going there less & less because with each visit I have found that Big Lots has shifted to a different type of product offering... the store is quickly becoming wall-to-wall with sub-quality items, made SPECIFICALLY for Big Lots (as shown by the packaging arriving at the store already with a permanent/non-sticker type price tag with the Big Lots names above price). Its unfortunate that the prices on these items cant be less throughout the store, as I often find myself drawn to some of these made-for-store items because they often look similar to their name brand counterparts, albeit lower quality and craftsmanship...only to ALWAYS being surprised by the price upon finding it. I am not a cheap shopper, I am willing to save mere pennies, however, all of these made-for-big-lots items are typically $2-5 higher than I expect; infact, more often than youd think, these slightly lower quality versions are MORE than their name brand counterparts... or at the very least EQUAL to in--price.... It never ceases to amaze me when I see that, especially the items include the same Quantity of product in the package (i.e. garbage bags). Paying more or the same for thinner, lower quality bags/items! I dont have any issue with buying the slightly lower quality versions, but i expect to have that show in a slightly discounted price versus the major name brand competitor. It blows my mind, especially as I always see customers buying them, but I suppose that explains why they keep doing it because its only increased. One last mention, I went down the Air Freshener Aisle in hopes to find the deals I used to find in the past (Febreze, Air Wick, Glade, etc.) and again my mind was blown to see the PREVIOUS years HOLIDAY or CHRISTMAS scents/sprays that typically would be reduced in price for quick sale, marked at a HIGHER price than any regular retail store ever sold them for.

I went in to this store on Sunday December 4th with my boyfriend and roommate around 8pm to get additional xmas lights as we were in the process of hanging them up outside our house. The moment we walked in the store I was told I had to leave my purse at the front counter. I asked the gal if she was joking and she said no. That request was not only offensive by making me feel like a criminal but also not going to happen because I have more money in my purse by the way of credit cards, debit cards and check than Im sure that girl makes in a year. We left immediately and went to Walgreens where we spent $60. So far everyone Ive told about the experience has been shocked and said theyll never shop there again. Some friends encouraged me to call the manager, so I just did so and I spoke with Tom. Apparently Tom is a store manager and he didnt seem so shocked or empathetic to my story. He did say he apologizes and that he would bring it up in the next meeting. He also said if he knew who the person was hed talk to them, but I didnt have the girls name. I just gave him the date, time and description of the gal who I believe also had a black security shirt on. That should narrow it down considering I never see more than a handful of people ever working there. But again, he kept it very simple and very monotone with a simple I apologize for that. Im now even more shocked that the store manager doesnt have better customer service skills and really didnt seem to care. So now Im ranting on this review. Ill never be back to this store, possibly never shop at any Big Lots again. That was an awful way to treat a paying customer. Happy F***ing Holidays!
